Advertisement Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Hi noah_addis, Take a look here Do You Use Everready Case. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
enboe Posted January 4, 2010 Share #22 Posted January 4, 2010 It turns out that a camera in a never-ready case doesn't receive the critical review from private security that the camera without case receives. We all know professionals never use one, so if you're using one, you must not be professional, therefore not a concern. (Wink!) They do have some benefit when being jostled in a dense crowd. Of course a small satchel or messenger bag can also provide some protection.
jaapv Posted January 4, 2010 Share #23 Posted January 4, 2010 I use the Leica one when it is raining.
Peter Lea Posted January 4, 2010 Share #24 Posted January 4, 2010 Luigi half-case only. I gave up the never-ready case soon after getting my M3 in 1975. Peter
gwelland Posted January 4, 2010 Share #25 Posted January 4, 2010 For those folks who do use the ERC, do you use it just when walking about with a single lens, say 35 or 50 etc? It seems to me that if you are using more than a single lens that you'd use some form of small bag instead. In that case it seems to me that it wouldn't make much sense to use the ERC as well - or does it?. I'm just curious.
doug_m Posted January 4, 2010 Share #26 Posted January 4, 2010 Graham, I put the M9 and any current lens (except the 135mm) in the large neoprene Leica case and then put that combo in a Billingham Stowaway Pola bag. I also put an extra piece of padding (taken form another Billingham bag) in the bottom of the Pola bag before putting the camera and neoprene case inside. The Pola bag does not have room for an extra lens but it does have room for 2 or 3 spare batteries , numerous SD cards and other assorted small bits. In case I get stuck in the rain, I tuck a few large ziplock bags under that extra piece of padding in the bottom of the Pola. This combo may be overkill but it is very small and provides for lots of protection. When the Pola was first suggested to me I did not think I'd like it but now that bag is my favorite for a one body, one lens kit. The Pola is not cheap, and the new ones have Billingham rather than YKK zipper pulls that I don't like, but its still really nice.

rob_w Posted January 5, 2010 Share #28 Posted January 5, 2010 Like Jaap and some of the other respondents, when travelling light I leave the camera bag at home and just take the camera itself with one lens mounted -- protected by the Leica neoprene case. When I get to the destination I remove the neoprene case and the camera is ready for use. I am not young but I am too young to use an ever-ready case -- which I associate with cameras of my father's generation. However, it has struck me once or twice that the neoprene case is a good deal more "Neveready" than the original ever-ready case! If an unexpected opportunity comes up, getting the neoprene case off in a hurry is quite a hassle Cheers Robert
jaapv Posted January 5, 2010 Share #29 Posted January 5, 2010 And, as I posted before,Robert, the neoprene case is worse than useless in the rain.
vikasmg Posted January 6, 2010 Share #30 Posted January 6, 2010 How many of you use an everready case to protect your camera? I bought a full Luigi case for my M8 but never really used the front or the rear LCD cover flap - effectively it became a half-case. I now use it with the M9 in the same way. I find it gives me a better grip and now that the case is well used it goes on and comes off very easily by undoing the snap-button fixings that go around the strap eyelets. Hmm ... I wonder where the rest of the case is.... - Vikas
Jerry_R Posted January 29, 2010 Share #31 Posted January 29, 2010 I planned to buy some ERC, my needs are: - I want to have camera almost all the time with me, just one lens most of the time - I do not want to take photo bag every day - I want quick possibility to take photo, quicker than taking camera out of a standard photo bag - it must be small and light solution - case must have possibility to attach to tripod\monopod As I found, only Luigi full case with tripod screw would match that. It also can have a wooden grip, deluxe neck and wrist strap - that is additional plus. I also found sth like colt bag: Ledertasche Colt Leica M9 M-9 M8 M-8 M7 M-7 Tasche S0 bei eBay.de: (endet 21.02.10 17:19:56 MEZ) Tasche Colt Leica M9 M-9 M8 M-8 M7 M-7 M6 M-6 SLR S0N bei eBay.de: (endet 22.02.10 09:43:54 MEZ) but think it is too big. Don't you? But it is cheap, probably quick in use, and no problem with quick mounting to tripod\monopod. - and I would use regular neoprene AIR CELL neck strap for that solution. - I could also use my LEICA Handgrip: Leica Camera AG - Photography - LEICA HANDGRIP M for M8 and M9 After reading your comments - I became confused: - LEICA neoprene seems to be rather good for transportation, not for having it on a neck with standard neck strap? Is it at all possible to put camera with strap to neoprene case? I never saw picture from side... Always front or back... - full case - you seem to take front part away - so then you also use standard photo bag? I want to avoid using case and back together. I am looking simplest, quickest solution. In past I was taking with me very big bags for my dSLRs... With M9 I also will have photo bag, but for dedicated photo plenners, going outs, not for every day wearing. What you all think?
Nicoleica Posted January 29, 2010 Share #32 Posted January 29, 2010 - LEICA neoprene seems to be rather good for transportation, not for having it on a neck with standard neck strap? Is it at all possible to put camera with strap to neoprene case? I never saw picture from side... Always front or back... I use the Leica camera protector (Half case), and I then use the neoprene case on top of that. It fits easily over both, and takes only moments to remove and to stuff into a bag or pocket when not required. There is no problem with the neckstrap either. haroldp Posted January 29, 2010 Share #33 Posted January 29, 2010 no..used to but the things just bugged me over time..now I go naked:D I think he meant on the camera.
haroldp Posted January 29, 2010 Share #34 Posted January 29, 2010 I used camera cases in 1965, not since. No real protection and always in the way. Anyone who has ever loaded an M2 or M3 with removable take up spool will get this completely. Regards ... H
Jerry_R Posted January 29, 2010 Share #35 Posted January 29, 2010 Does it mean, that all who "go naked", no more use cases - carry camera in a photo bag? I make a difference between time, when I go specially to make photos - then I can bring even bigger bag, with camera, few lenses, maybe even flash, filters - inside. No problem with that. But I feel the need to have camera almost always with me, not knowing what will happen. And carrying photo bag doesn't seem to be best idea. So I started to ask myself, if Everready Case wouldn't be better..? For me is a must possibility to attach camera to tripod without need of taking fully away case - so Leica cases are rather out of questions... Luigi stays and DigiEtui S0: Or I will resign and just uses small standard photo bag.
jaapv Posted January 30, 2010 Share #36 Posted January 30, 2010 Not if you replace the fastening screw for one with a tripod socket - a quite easy to source standard part. I have a Leica everready case - quite nice really, if a bit unpractical when shooting with the back flap and the front getting in the way, the camera attachment is simple as I have an old baseplate permanently screwed in. It is invaluable when I take the camera out in rainy weather - and a pain when the sun shines.
nryn Posted January 30, 2010 Share #37 Posted January 30, 2010 I've got a Luigi full case which I use when I'm only taking one lens. Otherwise, the top comes off (the top of the Luigi case--I don't generally photograph shirtless for humanitarian reasons), and my camera's in a half-case in a bag with other lenses. I like the full case because it's less to carry around than a bag with lenses, and it's easier to throw the camera into a bag with other things when out with the family. It's not too big a pain to shoot with, though if I'm taking more than one or two shots, it comes off. Luigi's full case design is nice in that regard. milyovsky Posted January 30, 2010 Share #38 Posted January 30, 2010 Note that the neoprene case, altough practical and cheap, has the properties of a sponge in wet weather. Does that mean the neoprene is made of open cell foam?
frc Posted January 30, 2010 Share #39 Posted January 30, 2010 Those cases are like trying to play guitar with gloves on, no thanks. says KM-25. __________________ "I don't need the M9 at my fingertips, it is planted firmly beneath my feet."
