Difficulty getting SF 58 onto M9

I got my M9 from Adorama 12/23 and my SF 58 flash from PopFlash on 12/24.

I have had a very hard time sliding the flash into/onto the hotshoe and an even harder time getting it back out/off - even with the metal pin all the way retracted - any advise (shall I sandpaper the edges of the SF 58 shoe - anyone ..?? ).

I am almost scared to use the SF 58 in fear of not getting it off or damaging my M9

Many have this problem. Try lubricating the hot shoe rails with a soft pencil lead.

I have this problem too. Go with the Old Man's answer it works.

To get it off, turn the camera with the lens towards you, put your thumbs on the flash shoe and push off (after releasing the lock obviously)
