galbianista Posted December 22, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I need to chose a specific color slide film for my Summicron 35mm f/2. A lot of time I use my camera, with this lens, in low light conditions. Because the Summicron f/2 is not the same as a Summilux f/1.4 ( ) I have to choose a particular slide film for this lens and, in particular, for this light situation. Until now I used the Fuji Provia 400X. Can someone help me ? Thanks in advance, Marco.

andybarton Posted December 22, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 22, 2009 If you want a 400 slide film, there isn't much choice, I'm afraid
galbianista Posted December 22, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted December 22, 2009 I really don't know if I need 400 ASA film. I only know that I use the Summicron 35mm f/2 and a lot of time I work in low light conditions without a tripod or something similar. Ektachrome 100 VS ? I really don't know. Help me please

galbianista Posted December 22, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted December 22, 2009 I think It's very important to speficy what I'll do with the product I'm looking for... First of all photojournalism: because of this I think, in particular to avoid bad situations (low light or other things), which one I have to choose ? The 100 or the 400 one ? stealthman_1 Posted December 23, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 23, 2009 If you insist on using slide film in low light conditions (lets not get into that discussion here...), use Provia 400x pushed to 800 or 1600 or find some of the last Kodak E200 and push it to 800. At ISO 800 in normal decent room light (not kitchen bright), you'll get 1/30th shutter speeds at f2. There really aren't any other choices that I know of. galbianista Posted December 23, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted December 23, 2009 The best solutions is to buy the Summilux 35mm f/1.4. But how to buy it ? This is the question!
alun Posted December 23, 2009 Share #10 Posted December 23, 2009 I believe Fuji Provia 400 to be the most pushable slide film -- at least, this what Fuji claims for it. So for low light applications you are probably already using the best choice in slide film. However, you will then also have the additional difficulty of using slide film not just in low light but presumably also in mixed lighting. Unless you know what you are doing, this could be problematical. Why not use fast colour negative film -- Fuji Superia comes in 400, 800 and 1600 as do the Fuji Pro Z films (more expensive) -- they all perform superbly in mixed lighting.
