For those of us that love our CL's:

Nice find! I will be using my CL

for a while since my M7 just went in

for a jammed up advance lever.

The CL was my introduction to the world of Leica . Usurped eventually by 'the M' but remains a faithful companion especially when size and weight matters and being the tool, paired with its 40mm summicron, which has produced most of my 16x20" prints will remain so for as long as film lasts.

Today I received a Leica CL with Summicron-C 2/40mm from a generous relative who didn't use it anymore. So I began to look for threads and posts about the analog CL and found this one, that seems toi have died exactly eight years ago.

Are there so few people using the CL? or does it not have much fans anymore? I just put a film in it and I hope to use it very soon, to get the feeling of the handling of this nice camera.

I still use my CL at times - just have a number of favorite cameras, so they all take their turn. I bought mine in the late 1970s as a companion to my M4, and have used it for a travel camera when on cycling trips. It gave lovely results with the 40 Summicron. Eventually the meter got “off” and the needle would stick, but a few years ago had it serviced and now it works well. I also picked up the 90 Elmar C for a two-lens travel kit, and that lens is amazing, even on my M10.

Thanks for the reminder - time to get it out and do some hiking in wildflower season!

My CL thinks it is an M bayonet Leica “Standard”. The rangefinder has lost its slivering and the meter only works when it feels like it. But as the camera body cost me nothing I will not spend money on having it serviced as the shutter is working OK.

The lenses shown are a 35mm Schneider Xenogon, 50mm Contax Tessar and 50mm Summar, just put together to make a picture.

As far as I know the Leitz Minolta CL was the same camera as the Leitz CL. Differences appeared in the Minolta CLE, based on the CL but representing a further development. The viewfinder showed lines for 28mm lenses now and the metering was different. I think.
