swamiji Posted February 24, 2010 Share #62 Posted February 24, 2010 Nice strap, is that Artisan & Artists from Japan? Dead sexy. Yes, Their silk cord. It doubles as a wrist strap as well. Thanks
menos I M6 Posted February 25, 2010 Share #63 Posted February 25, 2010 I am a big advocate for fine handmade craftsmanship and handmade quality, but the inadequate "keyring solution" of the most of these aftermarket straps really turns me off. It really is a pity, nobody came up with an ingenious solution other than just being satisfied with key rings or key rings + leather protector flaps at the best (which is even more inelegant). For this very reason, I stick to the modified Leica strap with quick connectors (removed plastic pad) and modified Leica wrist strap with the same connectors. They are just superior, although not enough "pimp" for some, as the material and feel of the nylon could be improved (the silky feel of Nikons top line camera straps would be a nice alternative - without the screaming logos of course). swamiji Posted February 25, 2010 Share #64 Posted February 25, 2010 I never cared for the Leica Strap, yes it's simple, but the pad with the logo gets in my way as a wrist strap and does not stay very well on my shoulder. I tried a leather wrist strap, but sometimes you need to have free hands. I have not found a source for Leica wrist straps, or perhaps I would not have looked for an alternative, but since I have, what I found I am happy with. I tried a leather wrist strap, but sometimes you need to have free hands. I have not found a source for Leica wrist straps, or perhaps I would not have looked for an alternative, but since I have, what I found I am happy with. Just read the small article, I wrote on my website, how to make an excellent wrist strap in Leica quality with the Leica quick connectors at no more cost than scavenging one Leica original neck strap (gives two wrist straps). You can simply remove the dreadful plastic pad from the original Leica neck strap. This pad is a big headache to use. I removed them on all my straps (have about 5 of them + a handful of converted wrist straps). I use the modified Leica strap on all cameras and exchange them with spare wrist straps, as I go. Only on my heavy cameras and heavy tele photo lenses do I use proper wide straps (which cut less into neck and shoulder when transporting them - again, removed all logos, plain black nylon webbing). menos I M6 Posted February 25, 2010 Share #66 Posted February 25, 2010 Additionally, I use Nikon AN-4 slim plain black straps, which I attach to small gear pouches for better grab and transport. These straps are more expensive (around 20,- USD), but very simple and great as straps for small cameras (Leica M) too, if you can source the triangular connectors with plastic caps, which never come with the strap unfortunately. Nice Site, the blog is a little buggy, but the over all style/function is really nice, not to mention your excellent work. Your instruction are pretty straight forward enough, looks simple. When I get board with the way things are (I always do), I certainly give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks - do you mean the failure messages at the bottom or do you see other issues? This bug is iWeb related, known for years and Apple has not been able to figure out any solution for this other than pushing iWeb users to their mobileMe prescription service, which I do not intend to use. jaapv Posted February 25, 2010 Share #74 Posted February 25, 2010 I think it destroys the ergonomics of the camera, but for those that hold a different view: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57211

menos I M6 Posted February 26, 2010 Share #76 Posted February 26, 2010 What he said. Is this an example of "I did it because I could"? I cannot imagine using such an ungainly combo. I think, ergonomic and photographic wise, it is quite equal to a full sized DSLR including a zoom lens, but less ergonomic and practical. Heck, you need a huuuge messenger bag, to slip this beast away with lenses attached and lock yourself in, when in need of a battery/ card change - talk about impractical! This would be completely out of line with my understanding of handling a M. I really love to have the compact M and one or two lenses in a pocket/ messenger bag and never smashed a lens, while changing them one handed (camera strapped to my right wrist). Agreed. a two-lensholder is too much for me as well. But with the Leica 1-lensholder I never even needed a bag, just one or two TX cardridges in my pocket (for the M9 to be replaced with a spare battery and SD card)! Not looking for a large contraption or grip, just a simple mount to screw under the M9. Mark
