tdtaylor Posted January 16, 2010 Share #41 Posted January 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Installed the lever and love it. Not the Leica lever, but it works well enough. I now don't reach for a lever and then remember it doesn't have one
Advertisement Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Hi tdtaylor, Take a look here Pimp your M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest ccmsosse Posted January 16, 2010 Share #42 Posted January 16, 2010 I did the same, I love my M9 - no more intrusive white letters, I got a used M8 black handgrip, I superglued a focus-lever onto my 50 Summilux. The M9 feels, handles and performs great with any of my lenses. Now I'm going to try my GF1 as a back-up with Voigtlander Leica m4/3 adapter.

cheewai_m6 Posted January 18, 2010 Share #44 Posted January 18, 2010 seriously, how intrusive can the m9 be without covering the m9 and the logo?

TacTZilla Posted January 18, 2010 Share #46 Posted January 18, 2010 Hi G. I'm very interested in polishing the shutter button as it does have a gritty feel which is worse when using a soft release button. I'm sure it will get smooth after many clicks, but I'd like to do mine now. My wife makes jewelry and has a polisher/tumbler which is a small machine that rotates a drum full of stainless steel shot. After a few hours things come out super shiny. Would you be so kind as to expand on how you remove the button and the correct tool for the job please? The link you gave earlier has lots on the page so we don't know the correct size. Many thanks indeed. B
Guest ccmsosse Posted February 23, 2010 Share #47 Posted February 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) yes, but there is also the triangular hole for the RF adjustment. no chance to leave that open. So I followed your advise, got the black dot from DAG, pulled off the red dot by rotation ... there was quite a bit of old glue - almost film like residue - which I could pull off in one piece (I think). I stuck the black dot onto the M9 - Voila... Any chance that some of the glue residue could have gotten into the rangefinder adjustment hole and if so how would I know (any reason to panic - M9 seems to be fine)? gwelland Posted February 23, 2010 Share #48 Posted February 23, 2010 You would have to seriously fill up the slot with glue to have any effect other than coating the vertical rf adjuster. I wouldn't worry yourself over it ...

menos I M6 Posted February 23, 2010 Share #50 Posted February 23, 2010 … I'm sure it will get smooth after many clicks, but I'd like to do mine now. My wife makes jewelry and has a polisher/tumbler which is a small machine that rotates a drum full of stainless steel shot. After a few hours things come out super shiny. …Many thanks indeed. B Unfortunately with my sample of the M8.2, which I bought with about 20.000 actuations used, it seems to be the opposite. The shutter release button is very rough, almost sticky before the exposure lock initiates. Therefore I am also very interested in the details for going about a polishing. jaques Posted February 24, 2010 Share #56 Posted February 24, 2010 I am interested to know whether any M8 owners who now have (or have used) an M9 have any opinion as to whether the shutter release button action has been improved on the M9? It seems there were some complaints about the M8 release- did Leica notice and improve the smoothness on the M9?

efftee Posted February 24, 2010 Share #59 Posted February 24, 2010 I just removed the white paint with a tooth stick. The black dot is from DAG, easy to exchange. I really hope the black paint gets a bit duller with time. I much prefered black chrome. Sorry, could you be a little more specific with using the tooth stick to remove the white paint? Did you just scrape it off? Thanks.
swamiji Posted February 24, 2010 Share #60 Posted February 24, 2010 Sorry, could you be a little more specific with using the tooth stick to remove the white paint? Did you just scrape it off? Thanks. Not exactly. The material used to fill the M9 lettering, is roughly the same as what's used in filling in the dots on dice, and has the same problems. What I did was to rub the white with the toothpick until it caught a corner of a letter, and the white crumbled away. A little touchup with a Q-tip and alcohol, and it's done. There is a known issue with the lettering coming off, this just takes advantage of it.
