pauledell Posted December 8, 2009 Share #14 Posted December 8, 2009 Jean-Luc, Just my opinion, but I think the b&w is more effective. Paul
robert_parker Posted December 8, 2009 Share #15 Posted December 8, 2009 Although I'm a devotee of colour, the B+W version is more atmospheric and has a greater sense of mystery about it. There's a sort of balance in this photograph between reportage and art, which is very pleasing. Also the winter light is very effectively handled - the background figures that are 'lit up' add to the composition.
ezc203 Posted December 9, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 9, 2009 I like both! But in my opinion, the B&W version is stronger for mood and atmosphere; however the color one seems to be crisper? Would anyone care to explain the reasoning for this? Thanks.
JLV Posted December 9, 2009 Author Share #17 Posted December 9, 2009 Hi Paul, Robert and Eddie, Thanks for taking time to comment, Eddie, When I switch to B/W, I pp the picture from the colour version and it gives sometimes a very different mood. (clarity, sharpness, temperature, etc..) I agree with your remark. All the best, Jean-Luc
epand56 Posted December 9, 2009 Share #18 Posted December 9, 2009 Jean-Luc, I'm totally delighted with your picture and so happy for it is dedicated to me and to the Brassens genius. I'm sorry for my late comment but I was in Paris, not at my home and with no Internet connection if not a friend computer that I did not want to abuse. The crop is superbe and the position of the woman is so much in the HCB way of seeing the world around that I wished it was me to take the picture. I also love the building on the background and the way it cut the image in two connecting the land with the sky throug the four columns above (is the one in the foreground a sort of bridge?). The B&W is the one I prefer, but even the color version has a special charm due to the mellow and pastel quality of the colors. And last but not least, the atmosphere is suspended and beautiful. So, as Georges would have said, Alors, aux soirs de lassitude Tout en peuplant sa solitude Des fantômes du souvenir On pleure les lêvres absentes De toutes ces belles passantes Que l'on n'a pas su retenir
JLV Posted December 9, 2009 Author Share #19 Posted December 9, 2009 Enrico, Thanks for your kind answer. I was sure you would like it! I was just coming out from the library which is facing the olympic swimming pool and was setting my camera for hunting (5.6 , focus set to 2.5 meters) and miracle..
