Here is the whole anouncement:

November 30th.... - REDUSER.net

In the 1st page you'll see the specs

I know it's not a photographic camera, it's video camera with the option to take still images, but still... probably the future! if you go the the second page you'll see a side by side picture of the new Scarlet and a Nikon DSLR.

I must say the feature films that have employed this camera & it's technologies is impressive. I witnessed a recent shoot in NYC and was blown away with small size of the crew and how easy it was for the DP to maneuver around in the action. A very cool way to make movies.

I spent a lot of time at red digital and its a Cinematography company !

not much of a Leica competitor in my observation. They are creating their own

market.

I'm not going to talk much about it but maybe I saw some Leica glass laying

around. ssshhhhh!!!

Cameras they had, my little padawan, but good image quality, they did not, and the force strong within you must be to carry an old big movie camera around!

If you can do record a movie with excellent image quality with a toy even smaller than a Nikon D3, why just take a picture when you can grab 120 fps and pick the best one? isn't it that the ultimate decisive moment when you have all moments at your fingertips?

RED cameras can take canon or nikon lenses, therefore it's just a matter of time an adaptor comes for leica glass.

The had movie cameras in the olden film days too, I think. They didn't kill off still cameras then why should this now?

Gee I dunno. Yesterday, bumped into a surf/windsurf/kite/sport pro photographer who has his stuff in surf, windsurf, kite, sport, mens, NatGeoAdventure mags and advertising (which keeps him alive) and he was saying the way the world was going and which lot of staffers had just got laid off. You are ignoring the way things are going from an amateurs safe couch. Thats fine too, but your place is firmly entrenched with the well heeled well padded with time to have an opinion rather than an imperative for something that actually works. The 'video Red and 5Dii et al' looks to be charging in and the horizon isnt far. You want a still? Sure which frame would like printed out?

for the small "scarlet" its 2/3", which is 10.1mm x 5.35mm; there'll be a professional model with S35 - 30mm x 15mm sensor, and even FF35 - 36mm x 24mm. But those will be freaking expensive.

I think the small scarlet will be 4-5 MP... still going through the forum, truth be told, most of the stuff is still speculation over there.

I don't have any connection with RED (I wish) :) I just thing these are cool gadgets that might find their uses also in photography.

...and a 645 which is 56mm x 42mm and a 617 which is 168mm x 56 mm. And that's only what has been announced so far. I think it would be foolish not to at least take notice. Then again this has been vaporware for so long it is hard to stay interested...
