Good review of the X1 with non-definitive firmware (# 0.72i) in the last issue of the French mag Chasseur d'Images (# 319, December 2009).

Only serious cons are price and lack of built-in viewfinder.

AF reactivity is not on par with DSLRs but is not detrimental with "normal" subject matters given the wide DoF.

At low isos, resolution is similar to that of the Nikon D300s.

At 1600 iso there is a bit more noise compared to the D300s but less smearing effect as well.

At 3200 iso, noise is "un peu fort" (a bit too high) but with less smearing effect than Nikon's again.

The lens looks on par with current Elmar-M & Elmarit-M Leica's (detail below).

Comparison of the X1's Elmarit 24/2.8 ("Elmarit-X" hereafter) with Elmarit-M 28/2.4 and Elmar-M 24/3.8

Sources: Chasseur d'Images # 290 (Elmarit-M) & # 319 (Elmarit-X & Elmar-M)

Elmarit-M 24/2.8: 0.09% (on M8)

Elmar-M 24/3.8: 0.09% (on M9)

Elmarit-X 24/2.8: 0.37%

Elmarit-M 24/2.8: 0.33% (on M8)

Elmar-M 24/3.8: 0.28% (on M9)

You're welcome gents. Forgot to say that Chasseur's reviews are based on jpegs not raws. Given the quality of the best raw converters, i would expect that noise is not a problem at 1600 iso and lower sensitivities.
