double-m7 Posted November 25, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) How reliable is the M8 charger (the old brick version)? I'm packing for a 4 week trip to East Africa and am a bit worried about the charger. Delkin offers a charger that accepts M8 batteries, anyone here using this charger? Thanks! Advertisement Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Hi double-m7, Take a look here M8 charger reliability. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kully Posted November 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2009 The charger itself has lived through backpacking around India for a month and backpack trips around Europe for over a year. However - the dongles that plug in to the body (one for UK plugs, another for Euro plugs &c.) are fragile and I have broken two since owning the M8. I now keep the dongle in a little hard sided box when travelling - but still managed to lose it (two days before we came back) in India.
Ario Arioldi Posted November 25, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 25, 2009 I never had a problem with the M8 original charger in nearly three years and I'm not aware of any reliabiility issue, but for a trip like yours I would buy a spare one, just in case. Cheers, Ario
jaapv Posted November 25, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 25, 2009 Just get a new type charger to keep in your camera bag and chuck the old one as backup into your suitcase.
JohnP1 Posted November 25, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 25, 2009 I have recently purchased the Delkin charger as I managed to lose my original (don't ask)!! It seems a well made unit and will charge two batteries at the same time. All in, with two M8 plates, two Nikon plates plus postage it was only £40. Significantly less than the price of a replacement Franken-charger or the later M8.2/M9 unit. It will even charge two different types of battery at the same time, which is handy as my son has a Nikon DSLR. It's too soon to judge reliability or any possible detrimental effect on the batteries, but all seems fine so far. John
