cbretteville Posted November 29, 2006 Share #81 Posted November 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is Leica going to code the 135/3.4 Apo-Asph? Don't think so, it isn't on the list and thyy've specifically said that 135 is too long a focal for the VF mag in the M8. Andy Piper has shown the old 135 TE can be used even though it takes a bit of getting used to. The only 135mm that is on the list is the Elmarit with bug eyes (11829). - Carl

carstenw Posted November 29, 2006 Share #82 Posted November 29, 2006 my 35/2.8 pre asph 100100=36my 75/1.4 011100=28 Inverting the digits (sorry, I had my logic backwards), the 75 Lux fits right in, but could you confirm the 35/2? carstenw Posted November 29, 2006 Share #83 Posted November 29, 2006 90mm f/4 Macro-Elmar: bbbwwbThis is viewing the lens mount with the codes at the bottom (6 o'clock position) and reading the codes from Left to Right. Thanks, added. Fits right in.
carstenw Posted November 29, 2006 Share #84 Posted November 29, 2006 First generation TE is 010101 (0= black, clockwise) = 21. Are you sure about the 16-18-21 TE? Mike - the frame selection lever definitely is used to qualify the coding - it allows the TE selected focal length to be displayed and if you use a normal coded lens, changing the frame selection lever to a different position causes the lens not to be recognised. I had the wrong T-E. Thanks.
carstenw Posted November 29, 2006 Share #85 Posted November 29, 2006 an interesting lens to hack would be the CV15, if a workaround for the missing metal can be found. i looked at the new 16-21 tri-elmar at photokina: reading counter-clockwise at the lens base: w w w w B w. this would be a good shot fot the CV15 Added. cbretteville Posted November 29, 2006 Share #86 Posted November 29, 2006 Carsten, Could you add Leica's order numbers to the list? This way there is no misunderstanding when it comes to those with several entries like 35/2 and 28/2.8 alternatively use the generation numbers like "35/2 IV". Thanks for compiling this. - Carl
carstenw Posted November 29, 2006 Share #87 Posted November 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Leica M8 Lens code page has been updated with all new information, and all explanations for the readings: Leica M8 Lens Codes Please send in any additions, or if you have a photo of the lens as described on the page, send it in. I will add them to the table at some point, as proof of correctness of the codes.
marknorton Posted November 29, 2006 Share #88 Posted November 29, 2006 Carsten, the TE (101010) is 42, not 50 as you have it listed.

This way there is no misunderstanding when it comes to those with several entries like 35/2 and 28/2.8 alternatively use the generation numbers like "35/2 IV". I have added order numbers, but I am missing many, and I am not confident of the press release I found which gave me these. I will double-check as I can. Corrections and additions are more than welcome. Perhaps if people could send me the order numbers for their own lenses...

booggerg Posted November 29, 2006 Share #93 Posted November 29, 2006 Why doesn't someone use an LTM to M mount adapter ring to test various code theories and compile a list of lens codes? I would, but I don't have an M8..
baloo Posted November 29, 2006 Share #94 Posted November 29, 2006 Wow thank it work so now I’ve got a summicron f2 35mm asph and a summilux not asph 50 1.4 coded as an asph would it make a difference or is it just to tell wich lens was attached when the image was taken???? mike prevette Posted November 29, 2006 Author Share #96 Posted November 29, 2006 Hanz, Most LTM rings have a cut away right where the code sensor is, making it a little more difficult than a lens with a standard mount. _mike

mike prevette Posted November 29, 2006 Author Share #100 Posted November 29, 2006 I Just coded my 28mm Voigtlander and my Zeiss 21mm. The interesting thig with the Zeiss is that since it doesn't bring up the proper framelines on the M8 I can turn the lens detection on or off with a simple press of the frame lines selection switch. The coding is indeed tied to what frame lines the M8 is displaying. This is a great little bonus. I love bieng able to tell the camera when to do the correction and when not to. _mike
