ho_co Posted November 5, 2009 Share #3 Â Posted November 5, 2009 missouri, Leica doesn't usually stoop to advertising numbers like that. Â I've never seen it quoted for any in-lens shutter anyway (the kind of shutter the X1 has), just in marketing hype from companies that want to push a particular version of a focal-plane shutter. Â In other words, I personally think claims like "mine will cycle more times than yours" are hogwash, and I doubt that you'll ever see a number like that quoted by Leica. Â The X1 will probably still be taking pictures long after we've forgotten the camera to move on to the next 'hottest thing.'
FastFashnReloaded Posted November 5, 2009 Share #4 Â Posted November 5, 2009 I was wondering how many shutter cycles the X1 has, before I buy. Â Oh for the love of Mike... Who cares? It's a tool. Use it till it breaks in four or five years and then get something else.
sfage Posted November 7, 2009 Share #5  Posted November 7, 2009 I guess I'd better stop doing stop-action animation  For me to go through 300 photographs in a day is nothing.
cheewai_m6 Posted November 9, 2009 Share #6 Â Posted November 9, 2009 i remember reading in leica brochures that they test the old m7/m6 shutters for 100 000 cycles before they go out for sale. i'm not sure if that's what missouri is talking about. ho_co Posted November 9, 2009 Share #7 Â Posted November 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could be, chee. Â I'd like to see that statement if you can find it. I think it would more likely be along the line of "Leica shutters are known for maintaining their accuracy for more than 100,000 cycles," or something else in that league of vagueness. Â It's an iffy area. The Japanese who cite shutter cycles don't guarantee performance to their quote figures, though a lot of folks think they do. Good marketing, to make people think you said something you didn't!

bill Posted November 11, 2009 Share #10  Posted November 11, 2009 That is what I'm talking about. I trust Leica still does this, Thankyou for the source information  It's a totally different technology - I don' t think you can draw any conclusions or parallels with the performance of a cloth shutter...  Regards,  Bill
