Tenor1 Posted November 27, 2006 Share #1 Â Posted November 27, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Both style cases arrived for the V-Lux and I chose the neopren. It is very light and comfortable to wear. It stays on the neck strap so you don't have to hold once it is off the camera. It does not hinder any use of the camera while it is hanging from the neckstap. A spare battery and media card are stored very nicely inside. The foam is about 4-5 cm thick and weighs about 3 ounces. The camera slides in and out very easily. Â The cordova case is also nice and is the conventional style. It stays on your shoulder separate from the camera. You'll have the case plus the camera around your neck while taking pictures. Â Just wanted to let you know my first impressions of these cases. farnz Posted November 28, 2006 Share #2 Â Posted November 28, 2006 ... The foam is about 4-5 cm thick ... Yikes! You could use it as a basketball with that kinda protection!
Tenor1 Posted November 28, 2006 Author Share #3 Â Posted November 28, 2006 Oh Sorry! I meant mm, lol. It seems a bit thin actually. Â Regards, Carlos
dwcolvin Posted November 28, 2006 Share #4 Â Posted November 28, 2006 Originally (and still, in many places including the manual), the Neoprene Case for the Digilux 3 was listed as 18665, same as the V-lux 1. Â Now, the Leica website lists an 18667 (Leica Camera AG - Photography - LEICA DIGILUX 3 Cases). Adorama and B&H both list 18665 as a Digilux 3 accessory (Adorama charges a LOT less, but charges a lot more for the Billingham bag... go figure). The 18665 box only says V-lux 1. Â Is there an 18667? How is it different? Unlike the original poster, I don't find the 18665 case particularly useful... I certainly wouldn't refasten the velcro around the camera strap and carry it around. The website calls it transport protection, which appears to be just what it's good for. Â The D3 fits nicely in a Lowepro TLZ 1.
Tenor1 Posted November 28, 2006 Author Share #5 Â Posted November 28, 2006 The cordura style is # 18666. There are only the 2 styles for the V-Lux to my knowledge, 18665 and 18666. Initially, I thought the cordura would be better, but I preferred the neopren over it. There is a little loop on the case that slips onto the camera's neck strap. Â The camera slips out easily without needing to detach the case. Then simply tuck the camera back in when finished. I almost bought both but like the ease of this style more. The codura offers more protection as it is a harder case. That's why there are 2 different styles. It's always good to have choices. Paul Gruyters Posted November 28, 2006 Share #6 Â Posted November 28, 2006 Just wanted to know more about the Codura. IE: Padding, Accessories Storage, etc. Â Thanks, Paul.

The camera slips out easily without needing to detach the case. Then simply tuck the camera back in when finished.  That makes all the difference  I missed the loop... but I hardly want that rubber case permanently (if you use the loop, you can't remove it without removing the strap) dangling from the strap.  But, as they say, "different strokes for different folks." Tenor1 Posted November 29, 2006 Author Share #8 Â Posted November 29, 2006 The cordura case is firm to-the-touch but not hard. The camera loads lens-down and a small square fill-piece at the bottom keeps it in place. There are also 2 storage slots. Both style cases are very nice. The cordura has the Leica red dot while the neopren has the log embossed on the lens portion. Â The cordura is better in rainy weather. The neopren might act as a sponge. Â I agree with Denny that having the neopren case hanging around is not a pretty sight, lol. I'll take it off if someones tries to take a picture of me using it, lol. The beauty of holding the camera is NOT being in the picture. Â Regards, Carlos
Paul Gruyters Posted November 30, 2006 Share #9 Â Posted November 30, 2006 Thanks for that Carlos. The Codura sounds right for me.
LVSBB6 Posted December 29, 2006 Share #10 Â Posted December 29, 2006 Thanks for the great review! Would this bag fit a Digilux 2 camera as well?
Tenor1 Posted December 29, 2006 Author Share #11 Â Posted December 29, 2006 I'm not familiar enough with the size of the Digilux to know if the cordura case is a good match. Â Sorry, Carlos
LVSBB6 Posted December 30, 2006 Share #12 Â Posted December 30, 2006 I found the dimensions of each of the following: Â Digilux 2: 135 x 82 x 103 Digilux 3: 146 x 87 x 77 V-Lux 1: 141 x 86 x 142 Â In this case, would it fit the D2?
Teddyp Posted January 3, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted January 3, 2007 I have my V-Lux 1 in a leather camera case I had foor a medium format rangefinder. I was interested in the Neopren case for prootection when carrying it around town and shooting street photos. Does it have room to leave the hood in place?
Tenor1 Posted January 3, 2007 Author Share #14 Â Posted January 3, 2007 If the hood is that extra piece that comes with the camera the answer is no. the case fits the camera like a glove with no extra room except for storing the extra batteries and cards in the flap. symmetron Posted January 4, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted January 4, 2007 I use a Zing Neoprene case for my D2 but without the lens hood. It won't fit with the lens hood. Cost about $25.
