  1. Hi all, I recently got a Leica Q2 and the a few new noises have popped up. For one the aperture has started making an audible sound when engaging after half depressing the shutter button. It’s sort of like a light scrape that wasn’t there before. Second, the shutter is about twice as loud as it used to be. Is this something worth sending in for inspection? I have an important trip coming up in 2 months and wonder if I should wait until after to send it in. The camera was originally purchased in March. Best, Max
  2. Dear all, I just received X Vario purchased thru eBay a few days ago. I was super exited but due to work, I havent had the chance to fully test the camera. I work in office and would see clear sky on weekends only.. (yeah.. bummer!! :-P) When shooting clear sky, I would see these clusters of spots. I have contacted the buyer and he said that he has never experience these spots on any of the pictures he's taken. He sounded genuine and as a good seller, he offered full refund or AUD100 for repair. (which is I dont know how much yet) The cluster of spots will move with auto focus movement (when I move between the contrast area of tree/clouds) I have fallen in love with the camera and would like to keep it is the problem can be fixed easily.. (I live in Malaysia Kuala Lumpur.. and the nearest Leica service center is in Singapore). Now, I'd like to get advise with these photos if the X Vario is worth keeping? how much would Leica charge to have the sensor cleaned, presumably it is the dirt crud on the sensor? Would I be able to claim warranty? I've called Leica Malaysia but the answers are between 1-2 years only for X Vario? Is this true? I dont see any warranty card in the box except a test certificate. https://www.flickr.com/gp/zul-fawie/5071y2 Would these cluster of spots develop overnight or during shipping? is the ex-owner is telling me the truth?. it was shipped well in original box and bubbles. Appreciate your kind help as this is my first Leica. no cluster of spots if taken a faster aperture. Kind regards, SR
  3. Almost every piece of Leica gear that I've purchased has been used and out of warranty, but this year, I did purchase a new M240 and a lens (US, authorized dealer). In its typically anachronistic approach, Leica requires that a post card, complete with fixed-space character blocks, be handwritten and mailed to the US headquarters to register new equipment. No online registration. So I completed the form, affixed a postage stamp in the correct denomination and handed it to the gentleman who walks house-to-house in wool pants 6 days a week in the hope that it will find its way to the proper authorities at Leica, perhaps to be forwarded to Solms where monks will enter my details into the parchment books. So I wonder if Leica acknowledges this registration with any type of correspondence or notification? It's only been about 3 months, so perhaps it's my expectations are unrealistic, but I thought there would likely be some form of acknowledgment by now. I'm not looking for a suitable-for-framing certificate or a thank you note, just a confirmation.
  4. Hello Forum Members, I'm hoping someone can answer a simple question for me. For those of you lucky enough to have received your M10 can you please confirm whether it is shipped with a generic warranty card inside? I know that I used to get them for my Leica products but I recently sold my M10 and the buyer is giving me grief that there is no warranty card. I certainly never removed the card and am wondering if there is such a thing anymore. Just checked my Q box and no card was present. Watched some unboxing videos and saw no evidence of a warranty card. Has this processed now moved to be 100% online? Can one of you please check to see if you received a warranty card before I decide on next steps. Thanks so much, Jeff
  5. Hi, I just bought a used Leica T from MBP in the UK. When I try to register it on the Leica website it says it's already registered to the original owner. Is there any way to register a used Leica? Thanks in advance
  6. OK. I am starting from that point where we all start: total ignorance. I receive my M8.2 today when FedEx delivers the little honey. I would not normally run an eBay camera by a repair facility to check it but this is special. And the seller has a 30 return window so I want a skilled tech to 1) look it over and evaluate its condition and, 2) do a CLA if needed. I will bring it up with the new lens so that the tech can check how well the lens gets along with the rangefinder. I have read on this board and in this sub-forum that two esteemed Leica techs will not open an M8/M8.2 because of "grounding issues." I have asked Wetzlar and finally Leica NJ about this. They have danced all around this and are as good at equivocation as any politician or time-share salesman. The best I could get out of them was that taking the camera to a non-Leica facility may void my warranty. They have not said that any other tech is unable to inspect, evaluate or repair the M8/M8.2. So I am going to be a guinea pig on this. I will take some pics when the camera arrives, of course, just to make sure it works. Tomorrow I will drive up to PDX and drop it off with a repair facility I have had do work in the past. They did the job right in the past on a Pentax digital. I will see what happens. I will know it worked before I brought it up. I will have the digital proof. I will also see what these fellows can do. And the tech left me a message to the effect that the M9 was pretty much an M8/M8.2 inside but with a bigger sensor. So we know he has opened up a few of them. As they used to say on TV, "Tape at Eleven."

    M9-P repair

What can I expect with the following statement? My Deutsch isn't that good, I understand most of it but if someone has more of a understanding I would be glad... especially the part about the leather?
  8. The glued on magnet from my M240 baseplate fell off and has been lost. The camera is nonworking due to this. I've emailed the local Leica repair center (Singapore), yet I am currently in Thailand and traveling in SE Asia. Their answer (no parts here, will need to be sent back to Solms), which I want to try an avoid. Ive also considered another RSS baseplate (will have to ship international, etc). I propose this question with hope there could be a simpler DIY solution. Does anyone know of an alternative solution, or have details about the small magnet (glued-bad design?) Leica/RSS uses. I'm currently hunting a similar sized magent to use.. Would another (presumely) neodymium magnet work if I were to find one? A random issue, but seeing it is an inconvenience to take to service center now. Does anyone have a suggestion of an immediate fix? Thanks in advance.
  9. Guys I've just ordered an M9-P and a 35 Lux ASPH. I have been using my 5D MKII with a 17-40, 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8 for a long time. I have taken great photos.. and I have taken some amazing videos. What is the warranty on lenses and body? Is the Leica warranty different in each country? I'm buying it in Asia. Its international warranty right? What are the yearly services to be done to keep my Leica in optimum condition? How much would it cost? Is it really difficult for people (SLR users) to get used to knowing the focus distance, or focusing through the RF viewfinder? I've always been good at guessing distance, I even did a 3 hr shoot in a Club (in the dark) and constantly manually adjusting the distance I was shooting. Would this be an advantage on my Leica journey? Would I be able to be enjoy my Leica completely? Or would I be missing my 5D soon and wishing I hadn't spent all my money on Leica and go back to my Canon (I don't do auto focus much and worked mostly in manual) I know the pros of Leica's size & weight against a DSLR. Please tell me other objective things to make me happy on the move. Without an extra handgrip or other accessories, is it possible to hold the M9 for long hours while walking through a city just by wrapping the strap around your right hand and thus loosely gripping the M9-P body? Can 'dropping' the camera on the table (like when you misjudge the height of the surface) by 2 inches damage the camera. Is the 35 Lux and M9P strong to take a soft beating? Or are they all fragile? Does mis-calibration on the M9 happen due to extreme use and how do you notice it? A lot of questions, but I feel like if I ask them in one rapid-fire round, I'd save you the hassle of writing in a million times. Cheers J : )
  10. Hello, What is the "Catalog number" in a Leica registration card? Thanks!
  11. Hi, Just discovered the dark side of the Leica sensor issues (cracking etc...). My M9 serial number doesn't seem to be in a batch of bad IR filters: 3977 That being said: has anyone bought Leica's extended warranty for 390 euros? It seems that we have conflicting experiences where some got their unwarrantied cameras serviced for free and others didn't. I bought my camera in april 2011, so I should be out of warranty in about a month. It's a year warranty right? I'd just like to get some opinions on this extended warranty offer and the sensor issues. So far, I had to no problems with my camera... No card problems etc... Maybe froze a couple of times... Thanks!
  12. I am about to buy an M9 and will be traveling internationally with it extensively. I want to make sure I find insurance that will cover theft/loss and a warranty that will cover accidental damage (e.g. drops, etc.). What kind of insurance have people bought (in the US) and what was your experience? How about extended warranties? Thanks in advance! I'll have some other questions I'll post separately but I wanted to get this one out of the way so I can place my order ASAP. Cheers, Matt
