  1. I'm seeing dust accumulate INSIDE my viewfinder on my 5 year old Leica M10 which I use professionally. The camera is always wrapped in chamois leather when in my bag. It got really bad this weekend when shooting a story involving low angled sunlight to the point where i couldn't see to focus so just guessed the distance, fortunately i was using a 21mm so most frames were in focus. Is this a known problem ?? This is my 4th or 5th Digital M camera...all have failed in the past...but my 35 year old M6 still works fine...what does that say about technology or build quality ? Leica Mayfair are supposed to be getting in touch ASAP...lets hope this gets resolved soonest....the Fuji or Sony system beckons ???
  2. Hi, I'm new in this forum. I inserted a simple optical viewfinder in the hotshoe. Now I can not release it, get it out. Brute force is no use, I think. Is there any way to release the two pinn? Please help. /luigi
  3. Curious to know if Panasonic has improved the quality of the view finder over the Leica SL. More specifically, what bothers me about the SL finder is: 1. When under exposing the image by more than a stop the blacks become very milky and you can't see much detail in the shadows (Often required to prevent highlight clipping) 2. It’s not very bright causing difficulties in bright conditions 3. Difficult to judge focus unless magnifying the image (I have 20/20 vision)
  4. is this a collapsible viewfinder ? does it have a Code name ?
  5. Hi all, As the title says, has anyone used a 35mm lens on an IIIG without a separate viewfinder? Is it possible? I have read in two places vague comments about it being possible using the edges of the cameras VF without needing a dedicated 35mm VF. Both times, there were no responses to those specific comments so... Has anyone tried it?
  6. Hi all, I'm looking for some first-hand information on universal finders for M240. I'm wearing glasses, unfortunately, so it's difficult for me to see frame's edges in RF viewfinders: eye relief is critically important to me. Alternatives are: - Voigtlander Zoom Finder 15-35 (discontinued but still in stock somewhere, I think) - Leica 21/24/28 (..I've read bad reviews of this...) - Leica 16-28 aka "Frankenfinder" - any other? Could someone kindly tell me something about these finders? Actually I'm using Leica plastic single-focal finders (and old metal ones), and eye relief is (barely) enough for me. Do Zeiss finders have more? Thank you in advance S.
  7. I tried to shoot street photography with the Q in two unorthodox ways. 1. Use an external optical viewfinder to frame, and rely on the autofocus to do the focus. Leica's optical viewfinder is clean and clear, also no refresh no lag whatsoever. 2. Shoot from the hip, or shoot with out looking. But either way, the common problem I have is that the autofocus tend to focus on the farther away buildings and items, rather than focus on the person's face in close distance. I have many ruined shots because of that. Any advice will be welcome. Thank you.
  8. I like the concept of the M262 as a stripped down rangefinder for those who do not need or want live view and video. For those who have used the M262, three questions: 1) How does the range/viewfinder compare with the M9, M240, and film Ms for clarity and ease of focusing? 2) How does dynamic range compare vs M9 and 240? 3) How does white balance compare? Thank you in advance.
  9. I've been reading threads as much as possible on this but I still don't get it. I'm confused about viewfinder magnification. I currently have an R-D1x which has a 1:1 magnification, which I understand means "clear glass" (and I love it) So far so good. What I don't get is what are the ramifications of the other Leica magnifications; .72, .85 etc. I'm patiently saving my pennies for a used M240 and am trying to figure out what these mean and why one is better than another. I currently have 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 90mm lenses
  10. I recently switched from using DSLRs back to M rangefinders and stumbled across an unlikely issue. The rounded and rather hard plastic edge of the M's viewfinder is visibly scratching off the material from my horn rimmed glasses, which is rather annoying since they are quite expensive. Reverting to external viewfinders such as the EVF2 is not really an option. Did anybody else come across this issue before? And are there any solutions (softer viewfinder rings...) that would not result in using different glasses? Best Till
  11. I'm about to buy a factory new film Leica, and my choices are Leica MP and Leica M-A, and one thing, that could help me make the decision, is how bright the viewfinder is. I know of the difference between the two cameras, so my only concern, prior to buying, is the viewfinder, since i find mine (Leica M6) to be a bit to dim in certain situations, and annoying when flaring. Does anyone in the forum know how the viewfinders of the MP and M-A are compared side by side? Which camera has a brighter viewfinder?
  12. I discovered massive dust behind the cover glass of the M10 viewfinder. Can not be removed from outside. No other dust in the camera at all. Never had that problem with any other M. Has anyone experienced this problem too?
  14. I have an M240 with the Epson viewfinder which turns the camera into a virtual SLR. And when that happens I can use any lens which can be adapted to this camera. Currently I use a Pentax 50mm f/1.4 which is not RF compatible but with the VF it works just fine. There are many old K mount zooms and macro zooms available to very attractive prices which would also work just fine. So, my question is, has anyone on the board tried this? And how did it work if it has been tried? There is an abundance of new glass out there for Leicas and it is very good and the prices are very attractive. With that electronic viewfinder a lot of old glass is usable, too.
  15. Hey everyone, I just got my m2 off ebay and had a look through the viewfinder only to see 2 main very noticeable spots. I attached a picture and the one on the lower left looks much dimmer and looks like a dot and a hair almost? It's kind of light greyish and I think it's a particle or dust but I'm not quite sure. However, in the middle the speck seems much darker (basically black) and more prominent. Could this be separation or is it another speckle of dust (imo it doesn't seem like one). If this has happened to you or you know what it is, any input on how to fix or your thoughts would would be greatly appreciated! Also the shutter curtain on the front seems a little pushed forward and I can see the whole seam on it, is that normal? The curtain works 100% fine but I'm not sure if Im supposed to see the whole seam and overlap of the two curtains. On the back it stays slightly open by 1mm or so (didn't include a pic sorry)... should it cause a light leak? The camera was also recently CLA'd. Lastly, the viewfinder has some "gold specks" which I think is separation, but I hope i'm wrong. Please help if you can clarify, recommend a fix, or give any thoughts on ^^. Overall the camera seems amazing and none of the things I mentioned has really bothered me, but if I can learn more about them then it would be great. Thanks in advance, Ashley
  16. Hello the help of experts is necessary ! I want to buy the Leica X type 113 camera , but original electronic Leica viewfinders are really expensive. Also it is impossible to use analogs from Olympus like for X1 and X2 models. Anyone knows is it possible to use on this camera some kind of old types of optical viewfinders for example the 36 mm from Voigtlander or Leica? Waiting for answers . Alexander
  17. I'm planning to get a 28mm Summicron for my M-A. Of course the camera's viewfinder has frame lines for 28, but the lines are a little difficult to see at times if the hood is being used. I'm thinking of adding a brightline finder for quick shooting. The older 28mm Leica finders are difficult to find in good shape. The Zeiss 25 28 finders are optically great, but can be fragile. So the other option I'm considering is the current Leica 21mm Brightline finder with the brass housing. And then to use the frame lines in the finder meant for use on the M8. Given the 1.33 crop factor, my understanding is that these lines should correspond to a 28mm on a full frame camera. Any experiences or thoughts?
  18. I would like to buy a new 35mm wide-angle for my recently acquired M2. For the moment my budget restricts me to Zeiss or Voightlander glass. I was thinking about the Zeiss Biogon 35mm f2 but I understand, because of its size, part of the lens blocks the 35mm view. For me this is unacceptable. As I am unable to try all the 35mm lenses, my question is what 35mm wide-angle lenses from either Zeiss or Voightlander are available that do not obstruct the 35mm framelines of my M2? I presume the smaller 35mm f2.5 Voightlander VM Skopar and the 35mm f2.8 Zeiss are OK? I would rather not use a separate viewfinder just now although it could be an option at a later date. This is a post from a new member (and new to Leica) so forgive me if the topic has been raised elsewhere. Thanks.
  19. Hello, I recently acquired two Leica M cameras from an auction. One is a M3, the other is a M2. They both are cosmetically in pretty nice condition, but the viewfinder on each seems to have an issue. The M3 seems like it may have some separation going on and the focusing patch seems pretty dim. The frame lines for the 90mm seems permanently visible as well. The M2 has what looks like dark spot inside the viewfinder—I'm not sure that this could be. When you looks through the viewfinder it still seems bright and the patch is clearly visible. I'm wondering if anyone can help identify the issue and also let me know if you think it can be fixed. Other than the viewfinders, the cameras seems in really great shape. Hopefully a CLA can clear things up, or a recement. Thanks! Ross
  20. I effectively ruined my hideously expensive multifocal eyeglasses with LTM-photography (Leica II & III, FED & Zorki) . A little too late, I started experimenting with various washers etc but found that most items increase the viewing distance and lead to incomplete viewfinder / rangefinder coverage, which is restricted enough with eyeglasses on classic LTMs anyway. There may be some professional solutions around, but I have come up with a low cost, dispensable item, which may not be perfect on aesthetic grounds, but works very well in the field for me. I did not bother with geometric perfection . I used a 12 mm and a 6 mm punching tool respectively, and some general adhesive cloth tape from the hardware store. My new eyeglasses will arrive next week Kind regards Mathias
  21. Hi everyone! Do you think it is possible to clean the dust from this R5 viewfinder? Can it be done easily at home or should it be sent for assistance? Thanks in advance for your kind reply! 😊
  22. Ho everyone, I have Leica M6 and I love it. I never owned 35mm SLR camera, only Polaroid SX-70 which is SLR.I shot few times with SLR. A week ago I asked one friend to give me bis Nikon FE2 with 200mm lens to test it. The truth is that I don’t like the hard button and the noisy shutter, but I like the way I frame.I mean I like that I see only what is going to be in the frame and nothing else. From the results I noticed that my photos gave better composition than with the M6. I know the vast majority like the viewfinder of Leica M and the possibility to see what is going to be inside the frame and many say that this is advantage, but I’m not sure wether for me this is valid. I use 50mm Summicron, because I don’t like too much wide lenses. As I said, I like my M6 too much, I don’t want to switch to SLR. Is there any tip/trick to ignore what is outside the frame? Am I the only one who prefer to see only what is going to be inside the frame?
  23. IMG_4284.HEIC Hi There, I recently bought my dream camera, a Leica IIIf! The unit came with a VIOHH Universal Viewfinder and noticed that the framing is crooked (see attached image). Has anyone seen this issue before, or know how to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance! Rich
  24. Hi All, I am considering buying a Zeiss 35mm lens for my M6 with 0.85 viewfinder. I can not really decide between the 2.8 and the 2.0 version. I would like to have the extra stop of light – but not sure if this would block the view- or rangefinder window. The little bit more money isn’t the problem – has anyone an Idea of the blockage with and without lens hood ? Thanks for thoughts and advice Thomas
  25. Recently, my lightly used CL has been having viewfinder issues. When I turn it on it opens in the LCD mode as soon as I take a photo, it stays in the eyepiece /viewfinder mode even when I move my eye away. I have adjusted the sensitivity to auto, light, etc. The only way it returns to the screen is by Turing the camera off/on again. This has reduced the enjoyment of the CL for me. Is anyone else seeing this chronic issue and is there a fix short of sending the CL back to the Leica (NJ) "hospital" for weeks.....and repair expense? Hope someone has an answer-my local Leica dealer was without an explanation.
