  1. Hi All, Recently, I have bought Lux 35 for my CL. But after first attempt to use lens hood I have a problem with breakaway of front part of the lens (see photo). So, I'm wondering if it could be fixed at home? 😔 IMG_7562.HEIC
  2. Hi everyone! Nice to finally make the decision to join this community. I made the switch to Leica from Nikon last year when I purchased the CL with a 23mm Summicron f2. I absolutely love the camera and the setup for the type of photography I do. at the moment, my current setup is the CL with a f/1.4 Super Takuma 50mm (thorium glass model).
  3. I recently found a super deal on a Visoflex 020 being sold by Adorama through auction listed as having major defects; the details described as "** Item Notes: Viewfinder does not switch back to LCD screen properly; Likely proximity sensor issue; May have other issues; Cosmetic condition is E ** However, the price was too good to pass up, less than half price of a brand new one. So I took a chance and bought it. When I received and tried it out, to my surprise, it worked, but there were green lines across the display. The lines went away when I angled the viewfinder to the max 90 degrees angle, but only temporarily. Issue returned when I adjusted the angle of the viewfinder again. I spent the latter half of a Friday evening/night before I pinned the problem down to the LCD connection to the main board. I started disassembling the base module where the unit connects to the camera at the hot shoe. There are four screws at the bottom, then the top of that module can be lifted up and out. There is a swinging door with the tiniest spring that attaches to that top piece, very easy to lose. The door can fall off easily. The hot shoe connection can then be disconnected from the metal hinge assembly by removing two silver screws and pushing back the two plastic tabs securing the connector to the hinge plate. To disassemble the main eyepiece module, the rubber eye "hood" or protector had to be removed; it is held in by double-sided adhesive at the top and bottom inside. Behind that, there are two screws left and right flanking the eyepiece that hold the upper and lower housing together. After I removed those, I spent a lot of time working the housing, trying to figure out if there were any other screws, or if adhesive or tabs were holding them together. Turns out, I took a chance and found out there is a tab on each of the three sides. The bottom comes off, and the main assembly is attached to the top housing. The ribbon flex cable connecting the base module to the eyepiece main module had no signs of damage; connection was fine, and removing/reattaching it did not resolve the green-lines issue. There were no breaks on the flex. However, pushing the flex beneath made the green lines disappear temporarily. So I removed the mainboard from the top housing assembly, and found a misaligned connection between eyepiece LCD and the mainboard: see, the connection is crooked It may have dislodged from the connector after a drop, or perhaps maybe it was never properly installed at the factory. Or maybe the continued adjusting/angling of the viewfinder furthered the loose connection? In any case, removing and reinstalling the connection made the green lines disappear and have not reappeared ever since I reassembled everything together. I tested the eyepiece multiple times on my TL before reassembling everything back together. Gotta say, I'm very happy with the viewfinder. Though it seems to pale in comparison to the viewfinder in my recently acquired CL, it is still a very welcome addition. And very fun to use. I'm not a serious photographer, but I'm slowly working my way into a new hobby.. Some background; I have repaired other people's smartphones in the not too distant past, and I collect and repair vintage Macintosh computers. After my experience with the TL, Leica cameras are working their way into becoming a new part of my collection.
  4. I just started using my new TL today, and ran into a problem, which I'm sure has a lot to do with my inexperience. I'm a relatively new photographer, and I've mostly only used Canon Rebels, which is what I learned on. I have 2 strobe lights, which I'm triggering with a PocketWizard. With my TL, the viewfinder is too dark to see anything, and when I take the photo, the pictures comes up as fine. If I use settings so that I can see the subject in the viewfinder before the photo, then when I take the photo, it's completely overexposed. What am I doing wrong? With the Canon T6i, it all works perfectly, but with the TL, and all the same settings, I'm having the issue. I'm sure it's something simple, a setting, that I'm not doing correctly. I've looked through the manual and it doesn't tell me anything. I don't understand why, if it is perfectly light enough for me to see the object with my own eyes, it would be almost black, through the viewfinder.
  5. Hi guys, I am sure this topic is covered over and over again, but I can't help starting a new thread to help me out in a very difficult decision. It feels like a very difficult decision anyway. Some background: I have been photographing for the past 15 years, and for a few of those professionally. I have been a strong Nikon fan throughout (sorry for swearing in the church), but have also owned and used a lot of film cameras, such as Mamiya, Hasselblad 2000FCW, Canon and Nikon 35mm film cameras. I would say i am a fairly decent photographer with, maybe, a bigger passion and lust than talent. :) Two years ago soon my son was born, and I just didn't bring the big cameras with me any longer, and I missed capturing those moments. I stopped all professional photography to make time for family and my day job. I sold all my other cameras, DSLRs and film alike to buy a new, smaller, more handy one. That I actually would bring with me everywhere and take photos. I never bought one, and now I miss I so much. So I started the hunt for the best camera for ME. I have been googling, foruming all across, and I just don't know how to drill it down any further and decide on the actual camera to buy. One thing I do know is that it is going to be a Leica. I just love Leicas philosophy, the picture quality, the "to the roots" thing, and I have decided once and for all that now is the time for me to finally own a Leica. I also know that I am on a budget. Coming in at a total of 2000 USD would be ideal - but if course, Leica is not cheap and there are many factors here. So anywhere between 1000-3000 USD is something I look at. For that money you could buy either a Leica CL kit brand new, Leica TL2 brand new, a used Leica Q, used Leica M9. I am not a rangefinder guy really, but I really like the concept. However, I will use the camera for many different scenarios such as travel photo, family photo, art works that I do, and just general hobby/art photography. I don't do any studio work any longer, so that I don't need, I don't do street photography in that sense, and I don't to long tele situation photography like concerts or sports. So basically, I do everyday photography and would like my photos to be nice to have, maybe frame them, and if I find time again start taking art work photos again. But let's focus on travel, everyday life typ photo. Now - what do you guys think? Where should I place my bets? I guess many of you have tried many of the cameras - which one do you believe I will be happier with? Thank you so much! I appreciate all and any input!
  6. Happy New Year! Now the CL is about a year into the market, I wonder how many could share your experience of your CL with the TL 60mm/f2.8 Macro lens? Is a good combo? Is this lens worthy at this high price? I now only have a 23mm/f2.0 as a "native lens" with a CL, and not really used this system yet, very unfamiliar with it.
  7. Hello, I am being offered a mint condition TL + T 18-56mm lens at a very attractive price. I already have a X Vario which I have enjoyed using for several years, but the slow & unreliable autofocus has frustrated me. Is the autofocus on the TL better than on the X Vario? I know both have a 16mp sensor, but are they the same sensor? How do the JPEGS & DNG files of the two cameras compare? Would I see an improvement from the TL over the X Vario, especially in the jpegs? Finally, is the auto white balance on the TL better than the XV? I’d be most grateful for your thoughts. Thanks in advance. Regards, Firoze
