    80-Lux

The first picture with my 80 lux-r, on Sony A7ii
  2. Hey, all. I've been having an issue with my R7 and my Summilux 50. I'm not entirely sure whether it's the lens or the camera, but 90% of the time, this pairing leads to super soft, weirdly exposed photos. For years, I had my (safari edition Summilux) paired with my R3 MOT and this resulted in fantastic images, but this camera was dropped and damaged by an ex-roommate. The top was dented badly and the metering electronics started popping out of the top plate, but it still metered well. Needless to say, back in the fall, I picked up an R7 from someone who was selling one here in Berlin along with a Macro Elmarit 60mm lens. With both the Elmarit 60 (though it was better) and my Summilux, the pictures were overblown, soft, and weirdly exposed. When I used the Elmarit with my Leicaflex SL, the pictures turned out quite well. I don't know what could have happened. Either it's my lens (which is quite difficult to focus, though I was able to get razor-sharp images in the past) or it's the R7. The Summilux has performed weirdly for a little while now, though. Perhaps an element came unstuck? It is extremely difficult to focus and seems to be off even when it's focused. As a test, I shot the R7 on program mode and was left with very odd images. I will attach them. What should I do? What is the more likely culprit, the lens or the camera?
  3. First of all hello to everyone, Being new to this forum I hope that I have choosen the right section. Recently, during a Covid-19 clean up, we have found a Leica R3 Safari in our basement, originally owned by my grandfather. Attached to it was a Summilux-R 50mm/1,4 (safari too). I was surprised that the camera was still in a like-new condition, perhaps didnt see much service back in the days. Out of interest we conducted some research about production etc. So apparently it was amongst the first 1000 batch that was produced (792). We took it to a local store that is trading Leica and they ran a check on it. To their own surprise it is fully functioning, must have been out of use for at least 25 years. When I explained to the nice storekeeper that I wanted to use the camera on a more frequent basis (following grandpas tracks), he mentioned that he wouldnt, simply because he hasn´t seen any R3 Safari in this condition for years. Long story short, we conducted some research on what it might be worth to someone (nothing crazy, we know), however it was difficult to determine a proper price, since many of the offered R3 Safaris seem to be malfunctioning to some extent. We dont want to sell it, however it would be calming to at least know what one is handling when taking it out or at least determining how frequently to use it. We were hoping that someone with vast experience on these cameras might be able to help out. Thank you in advance already and please stay healthy everyone best regards, Alberto
  4. I recently bought a seven-lens, two-body kit from an estate. The lenses are all two-cam, and I'm figuring out the filter sizes... most are Series VI, VII, or VIII, but the 50mm is a Summilux-R has thrown me a curve. Looking at the L-Cam Wiki here it indicates that the serial range for this lens (24715xx) puts it right in the middle of the 1971 production run, three-cam lenses (although I see that it lists that there are two-cam variants) that apparently take an E55 filter. As I said previously, it is a two cam lens and came with a 48mm UV haze filter on it. Series VII is too big, and Series VI is too small, so it was obviously not set up for a Series filter... and none of the Series filters are 48mm. Can anyone shed light on what I have here? Is it a unicorn? Are there just gaps in the L-Cam wiki's data? Anyone else have one of these? Thanks!
  5. Hello, Can anyone tell me how to remove the hood on this lens that I just received? It's reversed in the stored position exactly like in the attached photo (same type of lens), but I can't get it off (or can't figure out the procedure for getting it off!). When I pull on it, it's spring-loaded somehow...that little circular dial moves when push it towards the mount, but the hood will still not come off. Gah! Help? And here's a video showing the hood off the lens, just so you know I'm not crazy and that I should be able to remove it...
