  1. Hello, I want to invest in a Summilux 24mm f/1.4 and had the chance to test a used one before I bought it. Accidentilly I figured out a hotspot exactly in the middle of the frame, if I'm shooting e.g. with f8 and had a light spot (e.g. sun or ceiling lamp) in the the upper part of the frame. The hotspot is independent from the location of the light spot in any case in the middle of the frame. I did test shots with M240 and M246 Monochrom with the same result. The hotspot in the center is less obvious and more blurred with a more open aperture, but still visible (if you know where to look). I attach 2 pictures for demonstration done with f8. Even if shooting with f8 is not my priority with this lens, I'm a bit irritated in the moment. My first thought was that it is a problem with just one lens. But last week I was able to test another used one and got more or less the same result. Has anybody experienced the same phenomen or heard about it? Would somebody be able to test her/his lens under the described conditions? I already contacted Leica customer care without getting a satisfatory answer. Thanks, Uwe
  2. Hi, I get some shots with my M at the Rollerderby here in Hamburg. Used lenses was the 24lux and the nocti. Maybe you like the pictures... Best wishes Stefan
  3. One the unique things about the M8 is that it has a built-in viewfinder for the 24mm lens. I've been using the 21mm with the 21-24-28 finder and find that to be frustrating. The 21 on the M8 is a 28mm crop so the 28 finder should work but it doesn't seem very accurate. I've been using the M system since forever and the 21mm on full frame since the same time so I'm familiar that there's a bit of - how should we say - give and take with framing and the external viewfinders. I might be happier with the 28mm brightline finder if I can figure out what I've done with it. Anyway, for those of you with M8 and 24mm how does that built in finder work for you? It seems a bit close to the very edge of the frame so even without glasses it's a challenge to see entire field. There's no external finder for the 24mm on the M8, unless you use a 35mm and figure you'll get more. If I get the 24mm I'll get the Summilux (speed rules). How about the 24mm finder? Work for you? Thanks.
  4. Passing through Singapore in December for a month in S. E. Asia I had a sudden attack of G.A.S. I had with me just an M8 with the old 24mm Elmarit-m asph (and a 35mm summilux asph and the 75mm summicron), and I found that both the Leica shop and Cathay Camera in Singapore had the 24mm summilux in stock!! I was very tempted, particularly as the recent price rise was just around the corner. Happily I managed to resist. But it came very close to being an expensive shopping trip. I used the elmarit-m a lot on the trip, and didn't miss the extra two stops. After taking around 500 undistinguished pictures with it, I'm glad I didn't splash out on the summilux. There will be future opportunities, of course. After the trip, I've found that the M8, which I have not used very much since I bought it three years ago has developed a white stripe around 1-2mm thick down the RHS of its LCD screen. It's no real problem, and I think I'll just live with it. This is the third minor problem the camera has had: when new its clock did not work; later it developed the coffee ring on the LCD; now the white stripe. I had the first two repaired under warranty, but I think I'll not bother with this issue until something makes a repair unavoidable. All the best, John
