  1. Hi folks, I currently have SL 601 and I've recently bought SL2, which I'm going to sell soon, so I though to put some info why I'm choosing to stay with 601. It might be helpful for some. First, things I like about SL2 in comparison to SL 601: 1. Better viewfinder, OLED, more contrasty and Sharper (although not by much) 2. Better LCD, noticeably sharper than 601 as it has more pixels 3. USB charging, no need to take additional charger for travel. 4. Ability to use AF lens adapters (on 601 Novoflex is pretty much the only choice and it doesn't really work) 5. Enhanced live view giving a nice boost at very low light situations 6. Eye AF is very nice Now what things made me keep my SL for longer: 1. Although viewfinder is higher res, difference is not huge and if you switch to 120fps it drops resolution to something unusable when half pressed. Viewfinder also has lower magnification. 2. AF is faster, but not significantly better than on my 601 with leica lenses (24-90 and 75/2). I've tested it in different conditions and I was suprised that even in low light 601 didn't perform significantly worse than SL2 3. Rear buttons on a left hand side, which mean to view them you can't really press play with right hand 4. Design changes are questionable. They rounded some corners near the shutter button, which looks weird. Also LCD screen with buttons now extended from the body. Strap lugs are external. 5. Menu looks more complicated now 6. Fotos app still slow, useable as a remote, but that's the same as with 601 7. no GPS, you need to keep phone with BT enabled for geotagging. This is not a problem by itself, however if camera is used by more than one person it is not great 8. Camera is more rubberised, which might be good, however it feels less solid for some reason. I never had an issue with SL 601 ergonomics. My plan was to get rid of SL 601, Sony A7RII+200-600mm and get SL2 + bigma150-600mm instead, but now I think I'll just get another 601 + 150-600mm
  2. This may seem a bit obvious, but after having followed a general principle of having a 2 minute auto power off, and being left with 50% power after a day's walking and maybe 60 images, I decided to switch to a 10 second auto power off, and I'm finding I still have a full bar indicated after the same kind of use. If you've been unhappy with battery-life, I'd recommend playing with the power-off settings and seeing what improvements you can make. For information, I'm not experiencing significant start up delays either. Just touch the shutter button and everything's good to go pretty well immediately.
  3. Next month I’ll be in Northern Canada after polar bears and other wildlife and with luck maybe the northern lights. This will naturally require some periods (up to several hours) outside in below freezing temps (15-30 degrees F). Any advice on how to manage my SL2 and lenses under these conditions? I plan on taking a Sigma 150-600 Sport for reach and a Leica 24-70 for all around use. What do I need to watch out for equipment wise for the periods in the cold temps? It’s a heavy kit - would I be better off with the Leica 100-400 which is 1 pound lighter than the Sigma? How well do adapted m-lenses on the SL2 perform in the cold? Any and all advice will be appreciated.
6. Hi everyone, I´ve been looking for a good fit L-bracket for the SL2 lately and tried some options. I'd thought I´d share my findings with some pictures (below) to maybe help anyone out who's looking for an L-bracket for the SL2. The options I´ve tried are: Kirk ULB-1 3 Legged Thing Ellie Markins PV 100 & LV 170 For me personally I decided that the Markins is the best fit. It is also the lightest and generally has the smallest footprint thanks to the fact that it is possible to have the bracket part adjusted for a snug fit to the side of the camera. Obviously one cannot access any of the ports with the bracket mounted like that, but I don't usually need to. Obviously the Markins is also easily adjusted to extend the bracket part so that the ports are accessible. The Kirk comes in second for me, what I don't like about it on the SL2 is that the bottom main screw for the tripod socket is only adjustable "sideways" and the preset positions are not a good fit for the SL2´s tripod screw that is relatively far towards the back of the camera. Also the bracket part is not adjustable in distance to the body. However, with it mounted it is possible to still easily open the bottom port flap to access the USB-C port for example for charging. The 3 Legged Thing gave me a "gimmicky" impression. It felt a bit wobbly, probably because of the gap in the bracket part (that obviously also has advantages for cable management, I don't need this though). It also comes fairly close to the strap lugs and could cause issues when using a strap. Hope this helps anyone looking for an L-Bracket for their SL2. On a side note, I'm not a big fan of the RRS way of designing brackets for the SL range. They make an already large camera even larger and are also heavier than the other options. However, once they come out with their SL2 version I´ll probably have a second look... I also have some more pictures with different perspectives, let me know if you're interested (didn't want to clutter the thread too much)😀
  7. Hi, i am looking for some advice. I enjoy landscape / cityscape / street photography (I have a cl for street, it replaced my Fuji x-100t). I recently moved from Canon to the SL2. Still at the foothills of the learning curve. I have the 24-90 on the camera most of the time. I also have the Summicron 35 and the Sigma 14-24. I am swallowing hard at the cost of the 90-280 especially as I have a Mark I Canon 100-400. Now for the questions: Does anyone use canon’s Mark I 100-400 on the SL2? Are there alternatives which people could recommend which would take me up to around the 300mm maybe 400mm? Does not have to be a zoom. Sorry for the long question and thank you in advance
  8. Hi, I am in the fortunate position of travelling to South Africa (near Cape Town). Photography is not the purpose of the trip but it would be ‘rude’ not to take a camera. I have a cl, which I am excited about. It is a recent purchase with the kit 18mm lens. It replaces my Fuji x100t which I really enjoyed but I wanted to be able to change lens’ and I preferred the cl to Fuji x-pro 3. i just like having a camera in my jacket pocket, hence the 18mm. Physical, it makes the cl very similar to the X-100 series. Now for the questions: Is the 23 Summicron significantly better quality than the 18mm (I cant find the physical length lens so will pop into shop to see)? Is the APO-VARIO-ELMAR-TL 55-135MM considered to have a ‘good’ IQ? Should I be looking at other L-Mount lens? I have a SL2 and the 35mm Summicron, the 24-90 and an underused Sigma 14-24, but I would rather travel with something more compact and in line with the cl. The photography I like is mainly landscape but of course, a bit of street and social photography too. Thank you for your help in advance.

  10. Whenever I remove my SL2 battery, I lose all language, app, date and time settings, etc., and I'm forced to set them each time I remove the battery. Has anyone experienced this? I'm now charging with the usb-c port, but would like to figure this one out...... Cheers, Scott
  11. I have just seen that it is now possible to register the SL2 in the owners area of Leica's website When I did that I found that there are two versions of the production current, one for E, U JP, CH and one called ROW. (Rest of World???) Mine is ROW and the serial numbers are different for each version' I have no idea what the differences are. Possibly it may account for what seem to be some small functions differences I have read referred to in the Forum here. I don't seem to be able to select different Profiles for example, whereas I have read that others can. Or that may be be error on my part. My SL2 is from an authorised Australian dealer and one of the first shipment available here I think. I had thought that Australian stock came via Singapore for whatever that is worth. I never got the correct cable with AUS plug for the charger. It is a standard figure 8 lead though.
  12. Hello All, I've been trying to reach out to Leica about an issue I'm finding with the Leica FOTOS app for iPad but no responses. I'm able to connect my SL2 to my iPad Pro with the FOTOS app but getting a very soft image when viewing in the Remote mode. The library thumbnails look soft too. I do get nice clean images when I open up an image already captured. Maybe I'm missing something? I tried with both of my SL2s and no luck. It would be a nice app to use on some photoshoots. Only other issue is that it doesn't support 2 card slots so a backup not happening when using the app. Thanks, Paul
  13. Hey everyone. I buy new sl (2) . My sl2 is version ‘ROW’ . What’s different version ( EU, JP, US ) ?????
  15. I recently shot a project in window light 1600 ISO f/2 with the 35 Summicron. I saw a wide and unexpected variation in the DNG files shot to shot. I experimented with different metering options combined with different focus methods, where understandably there will be variation in results. However setting manual exposure (here) 1/320 f/2 with zero compensation set I saw a large difference in the results (no visible change in the available light). The EXIF reports the settings unchanged shot to shot but the results are hugely different. These shots 3 seconds apart. I hadn't seen this in a previous project with similar conditions. I don't think I have made some basic error but (and I am a couple of thousand frames in with the SL2 so far) but I can't account for this so suggest away. My only speculation is about which shutter mode was operating (in hybrid). Any suggestions/comments on a possible cause would be welcome. No there was no solar eclipse or visible change in the light from window.
  16. I'm finding myself being asked to shoot a number of upcoming events in the coming months where a quiet shutter is requisite. Given the nature of the work, I'm contemplating if it might not be worthwhile to get a second L body. As the S1 is down to $2K at the moment, I've begin considering if that it might be worthwhile compliment to the SL2. I've been pleasantly surprised by how quiet the is SL2, so I am now wondering if the Pano's sound is similarly muted or if its a clacker. Somewhat of a deal breaker if it's the latter. Anyone with both?
  17. Had the SL for a few years - really happy with it, great IQ. Don’t like the size and weight so tend to use it with ZEISS ZM lenses. Thinking of switching to SL2.. Attractions for me: 1. IBIS for using M (or ZM) lenses. 2. Improved EVF. 3. Larger, higher res rear panel. 4 Quick view menu. 5. Grip and restyling of body. Things putting me off - only 1: 1. I don’t need 47mp. So.....thinking I could shoot at Medium resolution setting (which is 24mp) and also use TL lenses (to manage the size and weight concern) to get 20mp files. I would use 47mp when the image demands it - so 24 as a go to size (street, family etc) and 47 for specific occasions (landscapes etc). I know that concerns on high ISO won’t be addressed by shooting at lower res (due to pixel density). Anyone else thinking like this? Thanks.
  18. I am using an S1R as my backup to my SL2. I cannot get the official sl2 cable release therefore my question is : can I use the cable release from my S1R which has a thinner body with the SL2 with a simple adapter as they both have the same number of contacts. Using the phone app is not the right solution for me because of the small time delay trying to shoot at moving birds in a nest.
  19. The S1R is said to autofocus down to -6 EV. Is SL2 capable of this? I would guess so due to the almost same sensor...but I can not find any evidence.

(Zur Info: Long Exposure Noise Reduction = Aus).
  23. If the Leica Rumors reprint of the Nokishita post is true, the SL2 certainly won't be any prettier than the SL. The 47 megapixels is happy news, though. If true, one always has to say.
