  1. I am wondering what memory cards those who have an M11 are using with it. I normally use SanDisk memory cards in my M10M, Q2 and MP 240; these work well, unlike Lexar cards which are prone to cause corrupted files and were the bane of my existence till I switched over to SanDisk SDXC cards. B&H has the ProGrade Digital 256GB UHS-II SDXC Memory Card which they are recommending for use with the M11: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1499810-REG/prograde_digital_pgsd256gbckbh_256gb_uhs_ii_v90_sdxc.html Does anyone have any experience in using this memory card with any digital Leica camera? If so, does "it work and play well" with Leica's electronics? Or should we play i safe and go with what seems to work, the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC card? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1617741-REG/sandisk_sdsdxdk_128g_ancin_128gb_extreme_pro_uhs_ii.html Any information that anyone can share with the rest of us will be greatly appreciated.
  2. I just bought an M8 camera in good condition with about 4750 shoots. Yesterday however something very strange happens. I had an 8GB 30 MB/sec San Disk card into the camera with various photos from last days. Yesterday I took some photos in 2 different places and I was able to see all photos in the LCD of the camera. When I put the card on my Mac Book Pro and C1 to retrieve the photos , to my surprise some of them was not there !! In fact I could see all photos of the previous days , I could see the last shoots of yesterday , but I lost all photos I took early yesterday !! What I also found is that for mysterious reason some of the last pictures, took the numbers of pictures I previously deleted !!! Not good to loose photos , never happens again all this years with various cameras ... Any explanation ? Has anyone similar experience ?
  3. Ok, so it's Christmas Day and we are taking some photos using our faithful travel companion Leica M9. My partner notices that the frame lines in the view finder are larger than normal for the 50mm f2 lens and this is due to the lens not being fully twisted into place and setting the correct frame lines. No issue, I removed the lens and reattached it, frame lines re-appear in the correct place and all is back to normal, or so we thought. Straight away the optical viewfinder said "FULL" and on the LCD display it quoted "Attention SD Card Locked". We have been using Sandisk Ultra cards for over a year with no issues. The card is not in the locked position! We have restarted, replaced the battery with another full battery, left the battery out of the camera for 30 minutes, put our other Sandisk memory cards in as well as other branded ones, we have reset the camera and updated to the latest firmware, formatted the card on the Mac using FAT32, used an air blower to try and remove any dust etc from the card slot, last ditch I have swapped lenses... but it still says "Attention SD Card Locked" when the camera is turned on and the shutter is pressed. If you view the images from a card on the camera they appear fine but with the locked symbol in the upper left part of the screen. We have not set this. When viewing the images you can scroll through and if you try to use the Set Button to revoke the locked attribute it says "Attention SD Card Locked". The camera still takes photos to the Buffer when there is no SD card installed, but you obviously loose them when the camera is off. I have read through some threads in this forum on a similar issue but nothing has been of any help yet. So this is all a bit of a crappy situation. Traveling in New Zealand and Australia with an unresponsive Leica after just over 14 months good work, is very disappointing. Any help would be greatly received. Cheers.
  4. I know this has probably been posted (many times) before and this is more me venting as Leica still haven't got their act together on this one. So here I am with a ridiculously expensive camera and I get streaks across my photos when I dial up the ISO. And we stand here and accept that you should only use lower quality SHDC cards in the M9 and that is somehow OK and we must accept this. It's embarrassing when I have to explain to my wife why my photos were ruined and its not unreasonable for her to be angry about it as I spent quite a bit of our money on it. And then I hear myself telling her it's OK, I can sort this out if I buy a set of cheaper quality memory cards and apparently the problem will go away. But you already have cards you use in your much older Canon, why don't they work in the new Leica, are they too big or something? Err.. its complicated, actually I don't think Leica know. For some reason the in-camera processing appears to be unable to cache, process and write the data to my top of the line SanDisk Extreme Pro SHDC (apparently I guess its too fast) when I dial up this ISO. Oh, I have the 'wrong' SHDC card, I need to get the cheaper slower one because the Leica engineers haven't figured out how to make a standards based piece of hardware work in the camera when its should simply work - imagine that happening on a HDD drive in your PC!!! What can I say, Leica should be ashamed. This is totally unacceptable. I can only guess there must be a magic combination of image size, power and in-camera processing which is exacerbated by the high ISO images that require more processing that creates a situation where I get streaks across my pictures as the camera can't keep up or no picture at all =:-O. How the Extreme Pro comes in as a 'bad' card I am uncertain but being about twice a fast as the inferior cards this factor may play into this. So we get a firmware update and are told to use SanDisk cards but not of course the really good ones at the top end that professionals use. Hey Leica, for all the thousands of pounds for this camera, if you can't get the firmware to work why don't you simply throw in a couple of decent cards that are 100% guaranteed to work and brand them as Leica. Nice idea, Leica branded cards - these might just take off if you can't fix the firmware. What kills me is SHDC cards will improve over time and this problem will simply get worse!!!
