  1. Hey guys, The 35 Summicron ASPH ii was updated last year to improve the mechanical design as well as resolving power. While it may not be noticeable on the current 24MP sensors it does offer a greater degree of clarity on the bigger 42 megapixel Sony sensor and when when printed to large sizes. This would indicate that, sometime down the road, Leica will inevitably move to larger MP sensors. In this respect, I was wondering if anyone knew what the resolving power of the Summilux 35 ASPH FLE was? Would be interesting to know, especially considering that it came out in 2011. Regard
  2. The 24MP images were scaled (bicubic smoother) to match the 42MP of the Sony so that any differences would be obvious. Identical sharpening was added in RAW conversion on output. This represents a 200% view. So resolution wise I see A7rII>M10>A9. The M10 seems to have absolutely no AA filter and is prone to a little moire, but it’s easily fixable in ACR/Lightroom. However it's coming amazingly close to the rII with nearly 2x the photosites. The rII seems to have a weak AA filter, so moire is visible only in extreme blow ups but also easily fixable. The A9 seems to have a moderate
  3. In this article, the author makes the claim that "A digital camera would have to be 156 megapixels to give you the same kind of detail as 35mm film." That may be true from a technical point based solely on counting line pairs; in my experience, it does not seem to translate in terms of printed image quality. Thoughts? http://istillshootfilm.org/post/114131916747/the-real-resolution-of-film-vs-digital?utm_content=buffer55d85&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
  4. I currently have a voigtlander 35mm skopar Pancake II lens. I love the physical size and the smooth focus action, but while the image details are fine for flickr, they seem to fall apart when I enlarge? I don't mind the creamy look that happens when I shoot wide open (so i might keep it for that effect for certain jobs), but I do mind the very pronounced flare that happens quite a bit. I am considering a black Zeiss 35mm Biogon C f2.8 lens (NOT the f2), the leica 35mm summicron aspherical in black paint finish (aesthetically pleasing to me) and the chrome summicron (maybe pre-asph) which
  5. Since the X1 is a fixed lens camera it should have a built in viewfinder for 36mm. An external viewfinder is an option but it radically increases the bulk of the camera and there is no case to accommodate the viewfinder mounted on the camera. There is an accesory pouch, but who wants to mount a viewfinder every time they take a camera out of its case? Therefore, the screen will be the primary method of composing and should have a screen at least as good as a digital SLR, which only uses the screen for playback. The X1, especially at its premium cost should not have an outdated screen with
  6. Canon 5D Mk. II vs. M8 Mk. I I'l let the images speak for themselves, except to say that I'm revising my thinking about how I will use the Canon vs the M8. The Canon will become my low-light documentary camera, but not my primary studio or architectural camera, as I thought it would. The C/V 15mm is still so much better than the Canon 20 - so long as there is enough light - that the Canon's extra pixels don't count for much. OTOH, the Canon imagery @ f/2.8 and ISO 2500 (under nasty dim 1200K room lights) is pretty amazing.
  7. I use my M9 for documentation of the urban environment. Often, there is a detail (such as a poster or a sign) that I want to be able to read, some of the time it is not in the center of the image but in a corner or at the edge. Hence the need for the best resolution lenses with little falloff in the outer zones, hence the Leica, especially something like the 18mm or 21mm Super Elmar. Can I get away with JPEG rather than DNG? In other words: Do I lose much or any resolution, given the limits of the M9 sensor, if I only have JPEGs. My concern is longer term--say fifty years from now and I get cu
