I just added the Leica grip, and two days later, the Q3 battery is drained. I recharge it, the scenario repeats. I remove the grip, repeat the process. The battery holds the charge normally. I added a thin PVC pad between the camera contacts and the grip base. No more issues, but no more wireless charging! Is there a solution to restore normal 100% Leica device functionality?

How can I turn off the little light on the front of the Q3 28? It used to be off, but now it sends its orange light and disturbs the subject, me behind the camera and the people in front in night and day shots. Quite annoying.

I picked up this Hoage square hood off Amazon. I was concerned with the fit because the description said for the Q3 43 but I figured for the price, I'd try it and if it didn't fit I could return it. The hood does fit and there's no issue with vignetting or with the macro setting. It threaded in just fine. So, if you're like me and prefer the square hood but also like the brassy bronze look, the Hoage may be ideal for you, too.

The items discussed here has been (separately) seen on this forum, but a direct comparison has never been done. For quite obvious reason (the possibility of and easy mount of filters, especially PL) I would like to replace the original Q3 hood with a vented one. Excluding a priori both the original Leica as well the Overgaard for their insane price (I can't see a real justification for that madness), the remaining possibilities looks like to be two: JJC and Haoge. Both have already be seen here, anyway here are the links to get them from Amazon (black version): JJC: https://www.amazon.com/JJC-Cameras-Replaces-Center-Vignetting/dp/B0CL25Y5FB?sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY Haoge: https://www.amazon.com/Haoge-Metal-Typ116-Camera-LH-LQOB/dp/B0CD43VTGY They looks like very, very similar (apparently there are very slight differences in the specs), so I'm undecided between one of them. Maybe there are differences which are not obvious on Amazon, but instead important in reality (even some review say that they could cause vignetting... something quite strange to me) I would like to get opinions before choose one of them. (The ideal would be if someone had had the opportunity to compare both them directly, but this, frankly, seems quite unlikely to me) What do you think about these hoods? Many thanks in advance for any help! Den

I know that a lot of people use the shutter release funtion on the Leica app but I was wondering if there are any Leica or aftermarket remote releses that work with the q3

Can anyone recommend a wrist strap for the Q3 43 that doen't rely on metal rings/triangles? Peak Design is not an option for me as I don't want to force the anchors through the camera's lugs using dental floss. Thanks!

My apologies in advance - I'm sure there must be threads on this from mid-2023, but I can't find one. Leica allows Q3 owners to bring a little bling with lens caps, round lens hoods, thumb supports, hotshoe covers, and soft release buttons, in blasted brass, silver anodised aluminium or black anodised aluminium. It seems like Leica missed some opportunities: Thread protection rings in blasted brass or silver anodised? I use the protection ring when I'm using filters as find filters and hoods never play together nicely. Red. Obviously red would never appeal to the black dot brigade, but neither should brass, and we have that. Red seems like such an obvious colour for bling. (I know the Danish fellow does red hoods, but I've seen too many red flags about him). Dark green. The dark green finish of the Reporter version could be completed with matching thumb supports &c. Vantablack. Maybe a special Vantablack dot so it appears to disappear into a void. I suppose this is more of an anti-bling ... Apart from good taste, what have I missed?

I have recently updated my Leica Q3 to the latest firmware version 3.0.0 and Leica Fotos for iOS to the latest version. Upon taking a photograph in DNG-only mode while retaining the “Brass” look selection, I observed that the raw DNG file was, in fact, previewed with the “Brass” applied look when viewed within the Fotos app or iOS Photos app. However, it still appeared as a raw file when opened in other editors such as Lightroom. My problem is that I genuinely appreciate the “Brass” look and am seeking a method to export a JPG file with this look applied in full resolution. Given that the latest version of Fotos enables the post-shooting application of looks to JPG photos, I attempted create its JPG version that could be recognized by Fotos by editting the photograph in Darkroom and save a JPG file with the same name. My intention was to create a single “JPG + RAW” photo in Photos, which could subsequently be opened in Fotos with the purpose of applying the “Brass” look to the JPG. However, the application displayed an error message indicating, “Leica Look has already been applied on the camera. Applying another look is not possible.” Could anyone provide insights into how to resolve this issue? It appears evident that the JPG file was exported from raw format, as suggested by the error message. Therefore, it should not have any applied look, as indicated. It would be greatly advantageous if Fotos also permitted the post-shooting application of looks to DNG files.

Everyone are entitled to have an opinion and please avoid discuss and comment other’s opinions in non respect way m11 cool camera and could see why would like rangefinder as kind of old school, SL3 for quality and versality, q3 for size and travel friendly

While any changes to JPEG rendering are, unfortunately, also going to change the behaviour of the histogram and zebra exposure tools, most of the "Leica Looks" completely break these tools. I was testing the new Chrome look this morning and noticed that the camera *never* indicates over-exposure, no matter what you do. Looking at the histogram, it appears that any Leica Look apart from 'Eternal' has a maximum cutoff that means that there will always be empty space at the right of the histogram and that the flashing zebra over-exposure indication can never be triggered. Quite astonishing that they have been released in this way, and also frustrating that there is no obvious way to report any of the bugs in the Q3 firmware to Leica.

Hello there, I’ve got the Leica Q3 a couple months ago and have been on the hunt for a compact and compatible flash since then. I stumbled upon a picture of Greg Williams using his Q3 and a nice and compact flash light. As he is the master using the Q cameras I’ve wondered: what flash light is he using? I would appreciate anyone having a guess! I have attached an image of it I found on his Instagram. Thank you very much. Ben

Q3 keeps switching user modes on its iwn
Jeff Wagner posted a topic in Leica Q3 / Leica Q2 / Leica Q
I have the latest firmware and the Q3 has been working fine except that it keeps jumping between user modes on its own without my input. Very frustrating -
I had a pretty eventful few days that started with leaving my Q3 in a NYC taxi but ended with getting it back. I thought some might find this interesting, helpful, or amusing, especially the "AirTag skeptics." I spent last weekend in Manhattan with my college-age son, making it a perfect opportunity for street and travel photography with my month-old Q3. This past Tuesday, we took a cab to LaGuardia for our return flight to Boston. Going through security, I realized I'd left my camera bag in the cab. The black bag must have blended in with the floor mats. It was a sinking feeling—my Q3, an SSD with all my photos, spare batteries, SD cards, and all in an Oberwerth Q bag. The total loss was close to $8K after sales taxes. Here's where it gets nuts. I'd slipped an AirTag in the bag's purpose-made pouch a couple of weeks ago, so I could see that the bag was back in Manhattan. My son suggested we get a cab back to the city and try to track it down. After being turned down by one driver, we found one who agreed to take us on a wild goose chase. We monitored the bag's location on our iPhones and updated the driver. After 15-20 minutes driving around Manhattan, we realized a cab couldn't keep up, so my son got a Citi Bike to chase it. After half an hour, we realized the AirTag wasn't updating quickly enough. Defeated, we went back to LaGuardia, missed the flight, and I got another one back to Boston. I resigned myself to never seeing the camera again. At home, I monitored the AirTag and spent the last few days phoning and emailing NYC cab customer service. Without a receipt, all I remembered was the driver’s first name. On Tuesday, I noticed the bag at a large apartment complex in the Bronx overnight, probably where the driver lives. The next day, the AirTag was all over the city, including the Port Authority where we'd been picked up. I continued following up with the taxi commission but got nowhere. Last night, I saw the AirTag stationary in Queens for several hours. Zooming in on the "Find My" app, I realized it was at a taxi garage. I Googled the garage, found a number, and was told to call back at 7am today. To make a long story slightly shorter, the dispatcher at the garage had my camera! As a teacher on vacation, I was able to leave my home near Boston by 7:30, drive to Queens, and got back a couple of hours ago. None of this would have been possible without the AirTag. I left a nice tip for the driver and thanked the dispatcher for their honesty. I thought for sure someone would have tried to sell it at B&H. This restored some of my faith in the goodness of people, and hopefully, will help someone else find their lost Leica!

I am thinking of buying a Leica Q3 even though I have the Leica M (MD) - which I am very happy with. But Q3 that's a COMPLETELY different camera. But Q3 has AF, Video and 28 too about 75(90) mm. This is the area I use the most on my M.(24mm-50mm) I don't want to go the SL route now but have the Canon RF because of the long telephoto lenses for bird photography AND amazingly fast AF. But I'm a little afraid that the Q3 will replace my M and it will collect dust. But Q3 + an M with 50mm Is there anyone thinking of doing the same or has done the same with the Q2 ?? (I am definitely not going to sell my M equipment)

With the Q3 being brought to life today, a new question for many arise: Should I buy/sell the Q2M and get a Q3M instead? Personally I am still in doubt with the Q2: though perfect, it is 28mm, and though I really enjoy what people can do with this pov, I struggle. Besides, I don’t like the process of converting color to b/w, and prefer a monochrom instead. But then, I do like long exposure in colour: the Q3 can finally do this. I guess the Q2 needs to go, to be replaced by either a Q2M or may be wait for the Q3M, or may be the Q3 will be sufficient? Tell me, who is eagerly waiting for the Q3M?

I currently have an SL2-S with a 24-90 Vario-Elmarit, a 16-28 Sigma, a 100-300 Lumix and a 105mm macro from Sigma. I am pretty pleased with this collection, which is reasonably comprehensive. I do, however, find myself hankering for a simpler setup, and I wonder if the Q3 may have at last provided that solution. The dilemma is, I cannot buy a Q3 without divesting myself of the SL2-S and all its lenses. I would be interested in the opinions of the group on this, and in particular one issue: With the much larger sensor -- current body has 24 Mpx, Q3 has 60 -- is it reasonable to hope to get away with cropping full-frame images to emulate longer lens coverage? And how far do you think one could go with that? An alternative, of course, would be to get a lesser mirrorless body and a long lens -- a Sony alpha of some kind perhaps. But in recent years I have become content with the IQ of my Leicas (serially, an M10, an SL and the current body) and am not eager to compromise. On the other hand, long-lens photography is a minor -- but significant -- part of my shooting regime. Undoubtedly others have thought about this, and with any luck will be willing to share their insight. If I were wealthy enough I'd simply buy a Q3 and break out my photography into two genres; alas, that is not an option. Thank you!

Leica Q1 - even more attractive in 2024
TinovanDyke1 posted a topic in Leica Q3 / Leica Q2 / Leica Q
Recently the use case for a Q was given. I read and consumed multiple reviews for Leica Q1-3. Money for value of course played a role, but in the first line I was interested in the best for my purposes. All are great, but to my impression Q1 is the most original and comprehensive with the best ergonometry and also best price to offer value. Just to look at the 5 buttons in a vertical row on the left. Thats Leica at its best. Special designed sensor. Q2 is sealed, has 48mpix without binning and an obviously worse low light capability. Better Video and slow motion, which is nice, but however nothing for me. Q3 sealed, 60mpix with binning, improved video capabilities, low light still not quite Q1 but better than Q2. Great, but comparing footage of Sony and Q3 makes me feel sad. Almost equal, no Leica feel like Q1 and, however less, Q2. Those Leica-luts of Q3 make it even much worse. Wonderful full size sensor compact camera with a great lens, but only minor Leica feeling left. I was grasping for any argument in favour of Q3, because I had been waiting for it, but in the end this apparently "dead" Sony sensor made me turn away and get the wonderful balanced, highly Leica like Q1, new and waiting years for me in a Leica Store showcase. What do you think about "Leica Feeling" related to Q1, 2 or 3 and the special Leica Look image quality?- 31 replies

3 months ago, I bought an original Q3's half cover in the Leica shop in Milan. As you can see from the photos, the edges inside of a cover are so sharp, they made scratching the bottom of the camera. I've seen similar cases on this Leica forum. Then I also happened to check my camera and I found 4-5 scratches. And a few days later I dropped the cover while taking it off (only the cover). As you can see in the photo, the cover fell towards its center of gravity, causing a scratch there. At the time, the camera was hanging around my neck with its strap. I reported to Leica CS in Milan. And exactly one month later, I received an email from them. According to Leica CS in Germany, 'I dropped the camera and the cover together', so the impact caused internal deformation of the cover, causing a scratch on the bottom of the camera... I am so angry at their general judgment. And they gave me a paid repair fee of €671 VAT incl. Of course, I turned down the repair, and I plan to get the camera back from Germany. I'm sure similar issues will happened from more users. I know that many people are still waiting to get this camera (at least 3 months...) and I hope that my issue can be of some help to them. Do you also have similar issues as me? Please share various information.

Hi everyone. Installed with no issues. Before updating firmware, saved "user profiles" to SD Card. Updated from firmware file on SD Card. I never update through the phone app. Paired again with Leica Fotos phone app. Imported "user profiles" from SD Card. Everything works fine for me so far. Hope everyone has no issues. Good luck!
