Sowohl hier im Forum als auch im echten Leben taucht immer mal wieder die Frage auf, ob sich die Q3 auch als Portrait-Kamera eignet. Sie ist mit 28mm Brennweite dafür sicher nicht prädestiniert. Dass sie gleichwohl in der Lage ist, schöne Menschenbilder zu produzieren, möchte ich hier nach und nach zeigen: mal in Farbe, mal in Schwarzweiß, mal im Studio, mal Outdoor, mal spontan, mal gestellt - aber immer Q3 und regelmäßig (leicht) bearbeitet in Lightroom. Hi Everyone , I have found on Ebay this eyecup that solves the problem of extrenuous light that can leak into the viewfinder that can be distracting. I seem to have this problem a lot ,not sure if it is because I shoot left eyed but this fixes the problem. I have read some people have had problems with the rubber surround getting damaged or needing replacement .This fits perfect over the outer viewfinder so instead of replacing the whole viewfinder unit this would solve the problem cheaply. The eyecup is advertised for Q3 but it fits perfectly on Q2. Cost was around $30 Australian. Hi - Curious if anyone is aware of this issue. I have the camera set to record in DNG and JPEG, however, when I export into Lightroom, I only have the DNG files. I've tried changing SD cards and yes, of course, I've triple checked I'm saving both DNG & JPEG. Has anyone else run into this issue? Thanks!

Hallo zusammen, da ich den neuen SmallRig Handgriff für die Q3 nun mehrere Wochen testen konnte und damit sehr zufrieden bin, dachte ich mir, ich poste hier mal ein paar Bilder. Vorweg, sorry für die Bildqualität, es sind Handybilder die unter mäßigen Lichtbedingungen entstanden sind 😉. Ich hatte vorher den Handgriff von JJC an der Q3, der rech ordentlich ist, v.a. für den Preis. Ich hatte damit jedoch immer das Problem, dass mir der Griff zu klein war. Der neue Handgriff von SmallRig ist aus Titan und geht etwas weiter nach oben. Damit bietet er mir mehr Grifffläche, die mit einem Silikonmaterial überzogen ist und sehr gut zur Q3 passt. Der untere Teil bietet eine Arca-Swiss-kompatible Aufnahme und kann direkt mit entsprechenden Stativen verwendet werden.

I just added the Leica grip, and two days later, the Q3 battery is drained. I recharge it, the scenario repeats. I remove the grip, repeat the process. The battery holds the charge normally. I added a thin PVC pad between the camera contacts and the grip base. No more issues, but no more wireless charging! Is there a solution to restore normal 100% Leica device functionality? -
How can I turn off the little light on the front of the Q3 28? It used to be off, but now it sends its orange light and disturbs the subject, me behind the camera and the people in front in night and day shots. Quite annoying.

My apologies in advance - I'm sure there must be threads on this from mid-2023, but I can't find one. Leica allows Q3 owners to bring a little bling with lens caps, round lens hoods, thumb supports, hotshoe covers, and soft release buttons, in blasted brass, silver anodised aluminium or black anodised aluminium. It seems like Leica missed some opportunities: Thread protection rings in blasted brass or silver anodised? I use the protection ring when I'm using filters as find filters and hoods never play together nicely. Red. Obviously red would never appeal to the black dot brigade, but neither should brass, and we have that. Red seems like such an obvious colour for bling. (I know the Danish fellow does red hoods, but I've seen too many red flags about him). Dark green. The dark green finish of the Reporter version could be completed with matching thumb supports &c. Vantablack. Maybe a special Vantablack dot so it appears to disappear into a void. I suppose this is more of an anti-bling ... Apart from good taste, what have I missed?

Can anyone recommend a wrist strap for the Q3 43 that doen't rely on metal rings/triangles? Peak Design is not an option for me as I don't want to force the anchors through the camera's lugs using dental floss. Thanks!

I know that a lot of people use the shutter release funtion on the Leica app but I was wondering if there are any Leica or aftermarket remote releses that work with the q3

Hallo zusammen, ich habe mir gerade nach dem FW-Update (auf 3.0.0) über die Fotos-App drei (für mich neue, ich glaube aber, die gibt es schon eine Weile) Leica Looks heruntergeladen: brass, eternal und chrome. Wenn ich diese jedoch einstelle, bekomme ich im Sucher, auf dem Display und als Ergebnis bei allen dreien nur jeweils den exakt gleichen Schwarz-weiß-Look (mit leichtem Sepia-Stich) und nicht den jeweils in der App vor dem Download angezeigten Look. Die Leica Looks, die ich gleich nach dem Kauf heruntergeladen habe (classic, blue, contemporary), funktionieren allerdings wie bisher einwandfrei. (Es könnte natürlich mit dem FW-Update zu tun haben. Ich habe die drei Looks leider erst danach heruntergeladen, dewegen kann ich das nicht nachvollziehen.) Hat jemand eine Idee, wie man das beheben kann? -
I have recently updated my Leica Q3 to the latest firmware version 3.0.0 and Leica Fotos for iOS to the latest version. Upon taking a photograph in DNG-only mode while retaining the “Brass” look selection, I observed that the raw DNG file was, in fact, previewed with the “Brass” applied look when viewed within the Fotos app or iOS Photos app. However, it still appeared as a raw file when opened in other editors such as Lightroom. My problem is that I genuinely appreciate the “Brass” look and am seeking a method to export a JPG file with this look applied in full resolution. Given that the latest version of Fotos enables the post-shooting application of looks to JPG photos, I attempted create its JPG version that could be recognized by Fotos by editting the photograph in Darkroom and save a JPG file with the same name. My intention was to create a single “JPG + RAW” photo in Photos, which could subsequently be opened in Fotos with the purpose of applying the “Brass” look to the JPG. However, the application displayed an error message indicating, “Leica Look has already been applied on the camera. Applying another look is not possible.” Could anyone provide insights into how to resolve this issue? It appears evident that the JPG file was exported from raw format, as suggested by the error message. Therefore, it should not have any applied look, as indicated. It would be greatly advantageous if Fotos also permitted the post-shooting application of looks to DNG files.

Hello soon more time for travel and photography. I have a q2 and om1 for wilderness photo I love gadgets and have no issue with more with good arguments. Complement with Q3/43 or M11 or SL3, or all? Everyone are entitled to have an opinion and please avoid discuss and comment other’s opinions in non respect way m11 cool camera and could see why would like rangefinder as kind of old school, SL3 for quality and versality, q3 for size and travel friendly

I picked up this Hoage square hood off Amazon. I was concerned with the fit because the description said for the Q3 43 but I figured for the price, I'd try it and if it didn't fit I could return it. The hood does fit and there's no issue with vignetting or with the macro setting. It threaded in just fine. So, if you're like me and prefer the square hood but also like the brassy bronze look, the Hoage may be ideal for you, too.

I have the latest firmware and the Q3 has been working fine except that it keeps jumping between user modes on its own without my input. Very frustrating -
While any changes to JPEG rendering are, unfortunately, also going to change the behaviour of the histogram and zebra exposure tools, most of the "Leica Looks" completely break these tools. I was testing the new Chrome look this morning and noticed that the camera *never* indicates over-exposure, no matter what you do. Looking at the histogram, it appears that any Leica Look apart from 'Eternal' has a maximum cutoff that means that there will always be empty space at the right of the histogram and that the flashing zebra over-exposure indication can never be triggered. Quite astonishing that they have been released in this way, and also frustrating that there is no obvious way to report any of the bugs in the Q3 firmware to Leica. -
Leica Q1 - even more attractive in 2024

Recently the use case for a Q was given. I read and consumed multiple reviews for Leica Q1-3. Money for value of course played a role, but in the first line I was interested in the best for my purposes. All are great, but to my impression Q1 is the most original and comprehensive with the best ergonometry and also best price to offer value. Just to look at the 5 buttons in a vertical row on the left. Thats Leica at its best. Special designed sensor. Q2 is sealed, has 48mpix without binning and an obviously worse low light capability. Better Video and slow motion, which is nice, but however nothing for me. Q3 sealed, 60mpix with binning, improved video capabilities, low light still not quite Q1 but better than Q2. Great, but comparing footage of Sony and Q3 makes me feel sad. Almost equal, no Leica feel like Q1 and, however less, Q2. Those Leica-luts of Q3 make it even much worse. Wonderful full size sensor compact camera with a great lens, but only minor Leica feeling left. I was grasping for any argument in favour of Q3, because I had been waiting for it, but in the end this apparently "dead" Sony sensor made me turn away and get the wonderful balanced, highly Leica like Q1, new and waiting years for me in a Leica Store showcase. What do you think about "Leica Feeling" related to Q1, 2 or 3 and the special Leica Look image quality?- 31 replies

Heyho zusammen, beim ersten Einshalten der Leica Q3 kommt eine wunderschöne Animation von Leica… Weiss jemand wie und wo man sie sich nochmal ansehen kann?

The items discussed here has been (separately) seen on this forum, but a direct comparison has never been done. For quite obvious reason (the possibility of and easy mount of filters, especially PL) I would like to replace the original Q3 hood with a vented one. Excluding a priori both the original Leica as well the Overgaard for their insane price (I can't see a real justification for that madness), the remaining possibilities looks like to be two: JJC and Haoge. (The ideal would be if someone had had the opportunity to compare both them directly, but this, frankly, seems quite unlikely to me) What do you think about these hoods? An der einen oder anderen Stelle (auch hier im Forum) ist schon die Frage erörtert worden, ob die Q3 als Kamera für Portraits verwendet werden kann. Mit ihren 28mm Brennweite ist sie dafür sicher nicht prädestiniert, ich habe mir daher die Frage gestellt, was ich a) schon beim Portraitshooting und b) bei der Nachbearbeitung beachten muss, um zu halbwegs vernünftigen Bildern zu kommen. Bei der Aufnahme scheint mir zunächst entscheidend, nicht zu nah ans Model heranzugehen, um zu starke Verzerrungen zu vermeiden. Der Abstand sollte nach meiner Erfahrung auf jeden Fall mehr als 50cm betragen, besser sind 100cm oder mehr: die Q3 bietet ausreichend Möglichkeiten, um auch bei solchen Abständen zu croppen. Interessanterweise war bei der Nachbearbeitung kaum etwas zu tun: ich habe in LR lediglich leicht mit Kontrasten gespielt, teilweise in schwarzweiß umgewandelt... Eine Verzerrungskorrektur war, wen überhaupt, nur minimal vonnöten. Ich hänge Euch mal ein paar der entstandenen Bilder an.

Ich verwende Perpective Control sehr häufig an der M11 wie auch an der Q3. Wie wir wissen, ist die Funktion im Lightroom Classic bei der Q3 NICHT umgesetzt. „Noch nicht“ ist uns versprochen worden. Bei der M11 hingegen hat die Funktion perfekt funktioniert bis . . . Gestern habe ich festgestellt, dass Lightroom Classic in seiner neuesten Version „Perspective Control“ nicht mehr kann. Genau gleich wie bei der Q3 zeigen die Vorschaubilder im Importmodul die fallenden Linien korrekt und korrigiert an, so wie es zu erwarten wäre. Sobald ein Bild dann aber importiert ist, springt es auf die unkorrigierte Form, ohne Perspective Control, zurück. Wenn ich dann im Lightroom Classic die entsprechende Funktion im Entwicklungsmodul aufrufe, stelle ich fest, dass NICHTS angezeigt wird. Gleich wie bei der Q3. Die Funktion ist weg. Das ist sehr bedauerlich. Ich weiss nicht genau, wann das passiert ist. Auf meinem Mac läuft mittlerweile die neueste Lightroom Classic Version. Ich hoffe, dass das ein Bug ist und die Funktion bald zurück kommt. Oder ist es vielmehr so, dass Adobe künftig auf diese Umsetzung verzichtet? Denn auch was die Q3 anbelangt ist nach nun mittlerweile 6 Monaten auch nichts in Sicht. Hat jemand Zugang zu Leica, um in Erfahrung zu bringen, was gerade passiert? Wie verhält es sich bei der SL?

Ein herzliches Hallo in die Runde! Ich bin schon seit rund zwei Jahren lesendes Mitglied im Leica-Forum. Nachdem mittlerweile die Q3 bei mir eingetroffen ist, will ich mich gerne vorstellen: Ich bin Ralf, komme aus dem östlichen Ruhrgebiet, bin 63 Jahre alt und fotografiere seit über 40 Jahren. Ich habe mal in analogen Zeiten mit einer Nikon-Kamera und einer Leica R8 angefangen, den Einstieg ins digitale Zeitalter mit einer Nikon gefunden und bin der Marke bis heute über viele Jahre treu geblieben. Allerdings ist die Sympathie für Leica immer bestehen geblieben. Nun, im Alter, bin ich wieder bei Leica gelandet: die Q3 ist vor einigen Tagen bei mir eingezogen und ich bin zugegebenermaßen vom ersten Moment an schockverliebt in dieses nette kleine Gerät. Ansonsten: ich lebe in der Nähe von Dortmund, habe über 30 Jahre lang in der Leitung diverser Gefängnisse in NRW gearbeitet und genieße seit Kurzem, nicht mehr arbeiten zu müssen. Ich bin fotografisch nicht festgelegt und medial auf diversen Plattformen (u.a. der Fotocommunity) unter dem selben Namen wie hier im Forum aktiv. Ich schreibe gerne über Fotografie, so unter anderem im Moment an einem Foto-Reiseführer ins Ruhrgebiet (bitte gerne mal dazu melden, wenn es Interesse gibt).
