Noticed an odd issue on a new to me, used Q2. The aperture ring and displayed aperture do not match past a certain point. Everything from 7.1 down to 1.7 matches. Going up from 8-16 is off by 1. Ex: physical ring is set to 11, but displayed on screen states 13. Confirmed that the displayed aperture is what is captured when a photo is taken. I found two threads on here related to this from a few years ago that implied this was common around firmware version 3. 🤷‍♂️ Confirmed: in PASM firmware version 5.0.0 manual focus ring is locked swapped batteries, powered off/on -same result recharged batteries, powered off/on -same result swapped SD cards after formatting in camera - same result no SD card in camera - same result reset camera using reset camera function on menu 5 Is there another way to factory reset the camera back to the original firmware version? Thoughts? Anyone experienced the same?

I have not used jpeg for so long I cannot remember - at least 30 years. I do, however, need to photograph several black hifi units (CD player, amps etc) and two sets of speakers. I am going to use jpeg (I want better than my iPhone but also want to play with jpeg on the Q2 as I have never used such on this camera). I also do not want to spend too much time on pp. The items will all be posted to on line sites for sale. I have moderate lighting (single flash and small Manfrotto Lumimuse 6) but would prefer natural light. Any tips / tricks as to using jpeg? I do not usually shoot product but want to make the photos look better than the average punter ones.

Recently the use case for a Q was given. I read and consumed multiple reviews for Leica Q1-3. Money for value of course played a role, but in the first line I was interested in the best for my purposes. All are great, but to my impression Q1 is the most original and comprehensive with the best ergonometry and also best price to offer value. Just to look at the 5 buttons in a vertical row on the left. Thats Leica at its best. Special designed sensor. Q2 is sealed, has 48mpix without binning and an obviously worse low light capability. Better Video and slow motion, which is nice, but however nothing for me. Q3 sealed, 60mpix with binning, improved video capabilities, low light still not quite Q1 but better than Q2. Great, but comparing footage of Sony and Q3 makes me feel sad. Almost equal, no Leica feel like Q1 and, however less, Q2. Those Leica-luts of Q3 make it even much worse. Wonderful full size sensor compact camera with a great lens, but only minor Leica feeling left. I was grasping for any argument in favour of Q3, because I had been waiting for it, but in the end this apparently "dead" Sony sensor made me turn away and get the wonderful balanced, highly Leica like Q1, new and waiting years for me in a Leica Store showcase. What do you think about "Leica Feeling" related to Q1, 2 or 3 and the special Leica Look image quality?

In order to have bigger battery capacity, without getting further original batteries, a possible solution could be a "battery adapter" similar to what is available for other camera (i.e. Nikon EP-5A https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product-archive/power-packs/ep-5a-power-supply-connector.html). That's a fake battery which can be connected to an external surce (i.e. power bank), avoding to stress the USB-C port (Q3 case). I know that leica does not produce such kind of things, but maybe a 3rd party could exist, but I did not find one. Maybe I was just not lucky (or smart) to find them. Does anybody ever heard of such thing? (which could be useful both for the Q2 and the Q3) Thanks! Den

Hallo, ich würde gerne mit meiner Leica und dem SF 40 Blitz entfesselt entfesselt blitzen. Dazu suche ich ein Kabel, welches mit dem Leica-System funktioniert. Hat jemand ein Blitzkabel oder kennt eines, welches mit der Leica Q2 und dem SF 40 funktioniert und am besten noch TTL unterstützt? Freue mich über Tipps. Beste Grüße!

Guten Tag, ich interessiere mich für die Q2 und würde gerne in Erfahrung bringen, wie lang die Lebensdauer einer Q2 und von Leica Kameras allgemein ist. Erfahrungswerte seit Release würden mich interessieren. Wie oft fallen Reparaturen an und wie sieht die maximale Anzahl von Auslösungen (100.000 -150.000?) aus bis etwas gewechselt oder repariert werden muss? Aufgrund des Preises, würde ich mich über Erfahrungswerte bezüglich der Lebensdauer freuen. Natürlich gerne von Leuten, die schon lange Leica nutzen. Ist eine Q2 eine Kamera für die nächsten 10 Jahre? Ich hoffe die Fragen sind an dieser Stelle passend und angemessen. Danke! Gruß Reetberg

Does anyone know where I can sell my Leica Q2?

My new Q2 doesn't have Bluetooth On/Off. It only is off. I've reset the camera twice but it still is missing. And there isn't anything regarding GPS shown in the menus. When trying to pair it only gives option to press "SET" to abort. I have my LG phone and iPad setup with the FOTOS application and ready to pair/sync. but they can't find the camera because I can't turn Bluetooth ON. Help required. thanks guys.

Hey team, M11 / Q2 Monochrom Reporter user here. I don't know if anyone has any info on how many they produced of the Q2 Monochrom Reporter but I thought it could be worth asking. In the UK they've not had any stock at Leica for a while and all retailers have removed the Monochrom Reporter from their sites. Still plenty of the colour version are kicking around. Did anyone hear any figures or have a rough idea? Thanks in advance, Jack

I’d really love to hear from those with extensive Leica Q/Q-P experience who are now shooting with the Q2. I want to focus on the aesthetic image differences between the two models, not necessarily technical or feature aspects. Features aside and “all things being equal”, the Q2 has better dynamic range/shadow recovery (especially at lower ISOs) and the classic Q/Q-P better noise handling at higher ISOs. Both use the same lens, the Q2 has higher resolution clearly – but the classic does have larger pixels. Pixel density and size are different between models, but I’m sure the Q2 is benefiting from other sensor advancements. Sensor size is the same for both, but Leica is fitting in a lot more to yield a higher MP image. I wonder what IQ sacrifices (if any) they would be making to accomplish this? In general, larger pixels do yield a higher quality image and less noise. Noise does clean up a bit in the Q2 if you down sample files to an equivalent size. I know I may be splitting hairs (and I’ll take ownership over this), but specifically, are you seeing any difference in how the files render along the lines of… Organic filmic quality vs. more smoothed-over digital look (some observers are noting that Q2 files look more smoothed over/plasticky/digital looking)? Color (Leica’s colors science should be the same for both – although it’s two different sensors) Pop/3-D quality Out of focus/bokeh rendering (same lens, should be similar) Micro contrast Sharpness (Q2 should be sharper without an anti-aliasing filter) Moire (Q should do a better job of reducing moire with filter) Noise (out of the box and without Q2 down-sampling, the classic Q probably has the edge at higher ISOs) – noise does impact IQ. Every Q2 review I read says, “the files look gorgeous.” But so do the Q/Q-P files. Undoubtedly, files from both look beautiful. Sony files can look gorgeous too, but they don't look the same as Leica - so we need to get more granular when asking if the Q and Q2 render the same. If you took the same exact picture with both cameras, would you even notice a difference, or has Leica done such a brilliant job that the Q rendering is exactly the same in both, with the added benefits of more dynamic range, shadow recovery, etc.? Or do they look completely different in your opinion? Better? Worse? The same but larger? Do you prefer how the Q2 files look over the Q? If so, why? Much of the Leica look comes down to the lens and color science – but is there anything you just can’t put your finger on when comparing how the Q files render compared to the Q2?

I often use my Q2 on a tripod in combination with a Sirui mounting system. I also have the original handgrip mounted on my Q2. To securely mount the Q2 on the bullhead of my tripod I use the small Sirui TY-C10 plate. This makes a quick and secure mounting/demounting of the Q2 on the tripod possible. The problem is that the plate blocks the big screw of the handgrip. I have to demount the plate to be able to reach the battery and/or memory card compartments. In my view this is simply a design weakness. (Another designers weakness is that the screw-hole in the handgrip is not central to the lens (as it in on the camerabody). I have to use several accessories to correctly mount the camera in central position on the tripod). To make the access of the compartments easier I have cut a small piece of thin (sheep)leather (0,2-0,4 mm) and put it under the plate. Now the Sirui plate fits solid on the camera body and the screw of the handgrip can be used without each time having to demount the Sirui plate.

We are not that far down the road to hell with regard to AI and it appears than an increasing number of people are through with AI, photographers in particular. I love my M10 Monochrom and Q2 - and the stunning prints (other people's words, not self aggrandizement) that they can produce. As for AI imaging, my interest level is significantly lower than my interest in having an intimate physical relationship with a farm animal. This essay has me thinking that it's past time to dust off my M4-P, film developing kit and the ziploc bag full of Tri-X in my gear cabinet.

Hey, i bought a nd filter for the q2 but it makes a funky cross on the images. I guess Leica is working with some kind of Polarisation? does anybody have a tip on with variable nd works with the q2? i need it to make daylight long exposures. Thanxs peter

I've noticed my Q2 often (25%-35% of the time) will capture TWO identical images in rapid succession with a SINGLE squeeze of the shutter release. Naturally, I've ensured that the exposure mode is in SINGLE and not in multiple, continuous, or bracketing modes. This is becoming annoying (and wasteful of storage space), not to mention sometimes confusing (especially on those occasions when I AM bracketing exposures, and instead of 3 or 5 nicely bracketed exposures, I end up with 4 or 6 bracketed images, two of which are identical in exposure). Again, I've repeatedly confirmed that I'm in single-shot mode, and most of the time, the camera correctly takes a single exposure, as commanded. However, a significant minority of the time (25%-35%), TWO identical images are produced with a SINGLE click of the shutter release. Is anyone else experiencing this, and if so, are there any solutions short of returning the camera for repairs/replacement? P.S. I also own and have exposed thousands of images with the Q, and never experienced this issue.

A post by another forum member got me thinking, so I thought I'd do a quick test of how the various jpeg settings affect the final output, and whether they could really be compared to film simulations, recipes or similar offered by other camera platforms. I couldn't seem to find a way to jam all the test content into a single post, so threw a page up on my website. I've never done this type of test before so there could be some things I've overlooked. I've been wrestling big time with selling my Q2, to fund an SL2-S (or SL2-S Reporter if the rumours are true). Note I have an SL601 and a few non Leica lenses already. I've had it listed for sale then removed it, had it all boxed up and put away, only to watch YouTube videos and read comments on here, and also viewing the amazing images on the Images thread, and then I get it out again and use it. Maybe I'm just not ready to let go???? What are everyone else's experiences?

So wondering how the auto mode decides to come into play or just better to leave on all the time unless using a tripod. Why not leave on all the time? Any thoughts would be appreciated cheers

I shoot with a Leica q2. When I open the DNG files in either Capture One or Lightroom (both latest versions) I get a vertical line left of the image. This line doesn’t not show when I look at the images before importing them. I work on a MBP 2021 M1 Max i disabled the Hardware acceleration (based on another tip) but it didn’t solve the issue. I know it’s not the camera. Any suggestions or troubleshooting ? thank you. see sample below. (Zoom in it will be very evident) THANK YOU!
