  1. Hey folks - I'm new here - and new to Rangefinder photography in general. But I took the big plunge on an M9 and a 35mm Summicron. I am absolutely loving this combination. What a thrill! And I'm improving my focusing skills every day. It perfectly suits my style of photography, and although I am not planning on selling my Canon system, I don't expect to be taking it out again any time soon. By way of introduction, I'm a television news producer - not a pro photographer (although I am dating one) - but I've been an avid photographer for 25 years. As I see it, the Leica is a natural evolution in my own style of photography. I started off shooting landscapes and abstract/nature years ago - and these days focus almost entirely on what some label "street photography." (i'm not a fan of the term). Anyway, I would be curious to know what presets any of you might have programmed into your M9s. I realize these are very personal things and would differ greatly among everyone, but on the Leica I find them much easier to use than on my Canon. A very quick way to change several settings at once. So if you care to share any details on how you've set up your presets I'd love to hear them. In the meantime, best to everyone. I look forward to being around here for a while. Chris
  2. Hi all, I'm brand new to the leica world and don't know so much about it. I just stepped into Leica these days and thought I'd like to own one. I think it could be much better than my Nikon D700+big lenses for candid street photography shots. But now the question is what body+lens to buy? I have narrowed it down to M4P, M6 or M8 + Elmarit 28mm f2.8. I'm fascinated by film although probably buying a digital would be more practical (though EUR1000 more expensive). Maybe being a Leica beginner I could have a quicker learning curve with digital. Also while familiarising and playing with it I'll throw away more shots(which in film costs more). Also the reason why you see only one lens there is because I want to start with only one to test the system and get familiar with it. Also because of cost issues obviously. I'd like if possible to keep the number of items low(I just have too much nikon equipment, will sell something...:-)). Maybe if I like it I'll keep 2 lenses(28 and 90) after a while. Does this make sense? Any advices from who did this before me? Thanks
  3. Hi all, I'm new to all this so please be gentle ...I've just purchased a less than 1year old (leica dealer refurb so promised mint!) M9 ..... and while i await delivery i'd be pleased to hear your thoughts on getting perhaps the Zagg M8 screen protector as i understand the M9 has the same 'plastic' screen as the M8 (from Ken Rockwell's review site) and so could do with some protection ( i have in mind the Zagg as i have an IPAD screen cover from them that is great) Additionally if you know of any better? / other review sites I'd be grateful too as now I'm looking for some lenses to go with it Once again all and any thoughts / comments appreciated Swanny Swanny
  4. Hello! I have been selling all my Nikon SLR gear to purchase something that I can just go and use. For 20 years I have had numerous lenses and cameras and just got tired of lugging it all around. So, after lots of video watching, reading and speaking with friends and comparing brands and models, I visited my “local” Leica shop yesterday.....ordered the Q2! Looking forward to “learning photography” again and slowing down with my shooting. Looking forward to the conversations here. Hope to have the camera, ready to learn, within 2 weeks. Cheers!!
  5. Where can one find the battery charge level? What's the best way to extend the battery life? If I shoot DNG/JPG, where do the JPGs end up? I don’t see them when I import the files into Lightroom. Are they the ones transferred over to the Leica Photos? If one shoots A for aperture, shutter speed, and focus, is it the same as Full Auto in Scene Mode? I notice the photos I take in Black and White turn to color when I import them into Lightroom. Importing the B&W photo into Leica Fotos shows it is B&W, which I assume is so that it can be shared. My question is: Are there specific Lightroom presets that show the Leica style? I occasionally get the red box with spinning circle. Why does it do that? I assume it’s writing to disk but I’ve had occasions where I haven’t taken a photo at all, so there’s nothing to “write to disk.” Can I use the Leica Q2 LCD panel to focus/shoot like my Canon 5D Mark IV? Maybe I’m wrong but I recall seeing a video of a Leica Q doing so. Does changing the user profile also change what’s found on the favorites menu? Is there any sort of logic for how to set up the FN versus the wheel button? I appreciate their usefulness but I find I can’t remember what’s where and I end up going back to the menu button. Any suggestions on how to set it up logically?
  6. This is quite the transition and shows how user-friendly the Q2 really is. I’m trying out the M10R with the Summilux-M 1.4/35 ASPH and an older Summicron-M 2/50. Using the 50 is a lot easier for some reason (although I’m not sure how it’s listed in the menu for choosing a lens manually). The EVF lines are brighter and the patch larger making focusing easier. Using the 35 the lines are dimmer and the patch smaller, and it’s really distracting seeing both the lens and the lens hood while composing an image. What am I missing? thank you
  7. Dear Leica friends, As a former M9 user, I'm back after years with an M 10R. Over the years, the path led through Sony, Fuji (APSC + medium format), Oly and Ricoh. Very often I adapt lenses between 1932 and 1965. Now I got my M 10R, various lenses from CZ, VC, Wetzlar, Canon 50 0.95, Nikkor Kogaku Nippon Japan are available. I feel I am now back home. and my heart is full of good emotions. The latest is the VC 50 1.0 with which I took the photos. I hope you enjoy the fact that I am showing the first test shots here, even if they are not demanding. I reduced the images, but I find the coloring and plasticity to be good and recognizable. In the future I will post my recordings in the subject threads. I hope you don't mind reading my statement. My main shots are street, portrait, street art and occasionally urban and landscape shots. I have a first question: What is your experience with exposure correction? I usually love - 0.3 to - 0.7. Is it also an acceptable way for you to capture RAW and Jpeg? I look forward to a friendly cooperation and your benevolent criticism. As so often, always good light
  8. Hello to all I am new here and new to film cameras, kind of. Used to shoot film in high school when I didn't really pay attention to photography as a medium, just a tool to keep some memories. Then, years later fell in love in video production and bought the canon 5dmk2 (that I finally sold two weeks ago). Having that camera helped me learn very fast so I started both shooting music videos and do photography, events and anything really. Not saying that I am a pro, I just get by doing projects I really like and fitting my hobby to become my second best work skill. My "real job" is leather craft. I have a small workshop here in Zagreb, Croatia. We used to make a lot of high quality stuff for police and security agencies, but I have expanded my field to a lot of custom work (custom stuff for harley bikes, musicians and lately photographers). That way the creative juices are always flowing. Combining high quality standards, durability and cool designs gets you long way... Of all my friends I got stuck on digital cameras for the longest time. Cause they used film for fun and research, while I was more or less working with my cams. At some point I did not know where the work stops and I needed a step back, slower gear... Manual focus lenses were the first slower gear. Every time I would travel to UK my camera bag was heavier and bigger and the basic kit I really needed was so simple. That I have solved with Sony a7s. A really cool little camera for work, but still the colors are a big problem there... This summer I finally decided to get a film camera for a trip my girlfriend and I was planning. We bought an old olympus OM10. We went to Tre Cime, Italy, and hiked a lot around Dolomites. We used both the canon and olympus and were so excited to get home and develop all the rolls. When we did that and compared the pics to the digital ones I just felt like all the time I was messing around in raw converter I was actually looking for this film photo. And not just that, a lot of the colors were not even present in the digital pics... The digital ones had more detail and they seem sharper and so, but film is something else... To cut the long story short. I have decided to get a decent film camera and Leica was my first choice along with the Hasselblad 500... Hass lost due its size. A couple weeks ago I decided to sell my canon to get some more traveling money (as I am going to USA for a month, to shoot pics and do some video) and a couple days later Leica M3 from 1955. knocks at my door. What could I do So that is how I got here... Sorry for the long intro but I just drank a cup of coffee and I am getting ready to re skin my M3... Pics of that soon cheers, S
  9. Hey I am Matt and I am new, but not shiny-new as I have been a member for sometime, just browsing, etc... I am from Torquay, in Devon, and it would be nice to meet other Leica users in Devon I shoot street and some events for work I like travelling, walking, theme parks and, of course, photography -- Matt
  10. Hello everyone. I do not own Leica camera. Still carrying 6kg+ in my backpack full of Nikon DX. so Im about to jump for something that is simply 600g FX and one lens. Leica Q fits that description, as I like travel photography, nature and street photo. I'm planing trip to Cuba this year and I go with 600g camera only. Will Q also survive normal weather conditions? (light rain, fog, cold, warm, humidity) or are they fragile? Apparently Q is not weather sealed? My Nikon D90 also not and went through hell, Rain, fog, Humidity in warm climate and it survived. does Leica cameras go ever on sale? Or can dealer provide discount? Where do you shop? -> do you use protective case? thank you guys for your patience.
  11. Hello all you Leica fans . I found this forum while surfing the net. I'm 49 and I am an Englishman living in Norway. I'm yet to purchase my first Leica . Which will be an M6/7 in the very near future. So I joined to do some research. So please excuse any newbie questions I have taken pictures for many years. Nothing more than snaps . Mostly I own Nikons FM2 FE2 and an F4s. I don't own a DSLR but have a Canon G9 for most digital pictures I take. So why a Leica. Because I have always wanted to own and use one. I look forward to reading the forum and looking at all the great pictures here All the very best.... David:cool:
