  1. Special Auction Services, in the south of England, is holding a Fine Photographica auction on 23rd July 2019. It features over 80 Leica items, formerly the property of a distinguished Swedish photographer and collector. In the 1950s and 1960s he gathered an impressive collection of rare Leica cameras, lenses and accessories. Some of them date back to the 1920s and are very hard to find these days, but the rarest item by far is a Leica Gun, codenamed RIFLE, so hard to find that it is thought only around 20 to 30 examples exist today. Here are links to the sale: https://auctions.specialauctionservices.com/m/view-auctions/catalog/id/23?page=2 ttps://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/special-auction-services/catalogue-id-srspe10335 E. Leitz Inc. of New York developed the Leica Gun at the suggestion of Attilio Gatti, a celebrated Italian-born, explorer, author and film maker who led thirteen African safaris between the 1920s and 1940s. He urgently needed a hand-held support for the long telephoto lenses he fitted to his Leica camera for rapid sequence wildlife photography and Leitz obliged. The Leica Gun first appeared in 1938 at a cost of $465 with a 20cm lens and screw-mount camera, but it did not sell well and disappeared in around 1940. This particular example is fitted with a IIIf and has been in the owner's family since 1951: it is expected to sell for in excess of £100,000. Other Leica rarities will include a Leica lens turret OROLF from 1960, an Elmax f/3.5 50mm lens, a Thambar 90mm lens, a Noctilux f/1.2 lens from 1968, an OLLUX lens hood, a Leitz New York Leicamotor 1400 from 1967 and a Leica-Motor MOOLY from 1938.
  2. Roaming NYC by night is always exciting. I went with the Q only all handheld.

  5. SOS HELP!!! I dropped my Leica M4 and according to the NYC Camera Doctor repair team, the prism that creates the ghost image in the rangefinder is dislocated and needs to be replaced. They suggested that I send it directly into Leica for repairs, becuase the rangefinder is a complicated mechanism they wern't equipt to fix. They also let me know that Leica, located in New Jersey, dosen't do specific repairs and will want to do a full tune-up. Money is a concern, and I'm not prepared to pay $1000-ish if I can at all avoid it. I just want my range-finder to be functional. Has anyone had rangefinder work done, espeically on an M4? Would you advise having this work done by Leica or an outside repair person, such as DAG? Any experience or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. E
  6. Hello everyone, My name is Alexey Kashpersky, I am an artist from Ukraine, now live and work in New York. Mainly I create artworks in medical field and fantasy style. Became interested in photography 3 years ago, as far as find it pretty close to art that I'm doing and just yesterday got my first Leica M camera and already started enjoying this piece of pure awesomeness... Here is my website with artworks http://kashpersky.com/ Photos can be founded here https://www.behance.net/collection/32163931/Photo-Art Any suggestions about the forum? What's the rules? What to read first? How to post photos here? Nice to meet y'all! Happy to be in this Leica club
  7. Hi. I was wondering whether the heads of both are interchangeable, i.e. can you screw the head of Elmar 9cm into the barrel of Wollensak Velostigmat 9cm New York? I have seen one such combo but the optical lens was destroyed so I was unable to test. I know the top of inner barrel should have matching last three digits, but I did not get to check them. My two further questions: are Wollensak Velostigmat 9cm 4.5 lenses RF coupled? And was there ever a E. Leitz New York 9cm Elmar? Thank you for your answers.

Hallo! Kein wirklich besonderes Motiv, aber in der Bildqualität bin ich mit meiner D-Lux 5 zufrieden und die Kleine war mein treuer Begleiter: (ISO 80, f5.6, 11mmKB55mm)
  11. these are from Union Square in front of a coffee-bar. After a long walk we neede a break. There I installed my X1 on a Gorillapod and waited for people to pass my prefocussed lens. I tried to catch different types of people.
  12. almost dusk in the streets of NYC and the sun came down quickly. Again my X1 as back-up. Late march this year.
  13. Since my MKII was mounted with the Zeiss Distagon 18 mm I can only post here my impressions with the X1. We spent a few hours on top of the Rockefeller Center and being busy with 2 cameras being pushed around by a milling crowd the X1 served as backup.
  14. these are from the aicraft approaching Newark Airport. All are with X1. Only later on I found out how to reduce the wrong colors and handle the colorspectre of the window better. But you may have a look.
  15. on the verge of rain we I was always ready to put my cameras into their plastic cover. This time I can show those with MKII + Elmarit 60 mm+2xconverter. The crowd enjoying was not so disturbing because of weather and partly due to the fact the Brooklyn Bridge is covered with a sheet. You may come along. Uptil now I have not found the point from where you have a ropefree view. Perhaps somebody knows...
  16. again my X1 in full back-up service (unfortunately my MKII with Zeiss Distagon18 mm cannot be shown here) - the lighting was very attractive this late afternoon/early evening in March 2013 - so I can show 2 samples of this view. location: New York city, South Street Seaport
  17. In New York I like the RCA Building because of its details. LA was new to me but downtown has its surprises. Both with M6 TTL.
  18. Hello I need some advice about film developing in new york. i will stay there for about 2 month starting august and i would like to know if i can work straight on film there. i would like to leave my M8 at home and bring only my M6 and Olympus Snapshot Film-Cam. Where can i get quick development (2-3 days) incl. scans for a good price? high res scans prefered, because i have to work with the pictures right away and won't have a filmscanner there. thanks for your help. berni
  19. Got my M9 after long debate. Still wondering if I can justify the price. So far I'm paranoid about dropping / loosing / damaging it, etc. Wondering if I should keep it. Great system, but a bit too noisy at high ISO speeds for such an expensive system, and while the lenses are fast, I still wish I had cleaner files for those nocturnal photos. I guess you can't have it all. Manual focusing is not that easy after all. I hope in time it gets easier. Well enough blah blah, here is my first photo that I'd like to share with you
  20. Downtown Manhattan near Brooklyn Bridge on a jolly nice very warm day in october 2011 we watched a group of streeacrobats. It was bright sunlight and since reading display of X1 was not possible I got assistance from my husband keeping me informed when the guy started for his jump. Manual focus and shutterspeed with aperture was preset being prepared for a blind shot. Enjoy the jump!
  21. First series of street portraits, shot in June 2011. I shot a similar series of portraits in Derby earlier this year, for the Magnum Workshop with Bruce Gilden. I've tried to continue this series, this time in NY. I feel that I need to add bit more characters, so I plan on coming back to wrap up this series, hopefully with a bit more varied set as a result. But, for now, here's a selection of the portraits I shot this year: (M9 / Noctilux f/1.0)
  22. I just bought an M3 with a goggled Summaron f3.5, and it obviously hasn't been used in decades. I live in New York City, and was thinking of trying out Panorama Camera in Manhattan--has anyone had any experiences with Leica repairs at this camera repair shop? The inside of the Summaron also looks a bit cloudy--not sure what it is exactly, but is it common to have the inside lens elements successfully cleaned? It looks scratch-free... I am very, very excited about getting this camera up and running, it's my first Leica!
  23. its all clearer now, in rough economic times we all gotta take whatever gig comes up. M8 cv35mm 1.4 iso 160 Thank you for looking, C&C always welcome. .
