Hi, I use my Leica M6 for almost one year. I use it mainly for street photography. Having such a beautiful solid German camera is really nice, but I can’t get used to the manual light metering.I’m not saying that I don’t know how to meter, but I’m slow. Even when I set the dept of field to be ready and use zone focusing I need from time to time to check wether the speed/aperture are set correctly. this is what I do: 1. I set the lens for some fistance , let say 3-14 m for f/8. 2. I set the speed. 3. But when I walk on the street there are shadows, bright places I should ajuste. I use mainly color film and can’t count on B&W exposure latitude. What is your style? How you do it

Good day, could someone inform what and how to make use of the 49-area metering system on a new D-Lux 109? I looked up on the instructions but there is not much detail explain of it... -
May I ask someone who know: There are three metering modes on the DL 109, for the middle one (Centre Weighted), I'd have two questions not sure about: 1. How big is this "Centre Weighted" area in relation to the photo framing area? 2. If this "Centre Weighted" metering area user changeable? (like you could change on the auto focusing area?)

I am not sure if this is lack of my knowledge but in the setup I defined metering mode as follows: INFO summary displays: ... what suggests that I rather defined "Center-weighted" than "Spot". Any ideas?

Hi all- Thanks for your response in advance. I bought a used M240 recently followed by a new MP 240. I am new to Leica and come from the Sony/Nikon world. so please excuse me if this question is stupid. I set both camera's to exact same firmware, same menu settings, same metering modes etc Below are my observations can you please validate if there is a issue 1. The LCD on MP240 looks less brighter and has a more warmer tone than M240 - Is this the case because of the Sapphire glass? 2. MP 240 under exposes compared to M 240? - same conditions, same lens, I tend to find MP 240 under exposing. is this common? 3. The B&W Film simulation images from MP 240 are a bit more vintagy looking than M240 or bit warmer than M240? Please see the attached image for the LCD issue (maybe not a issue). ignore the metering in the image thats just me playing around. I really appreciate your assistance in validating the above. I am off on a ski trip to Switzerland in a couple of weeks and am planning to take my MP with me and a load of film. I am reasonably new to film and the MP and would love some feedback on the following; 1. Exposure in snow conditions and particularly film selection for this. I would like to shoot E6 but am worried about its limitations to over or under exposure. Am I better shooting with something else? 2. I am expecting the MP will live up to the cold conditions without too many issues? 3. I have never travelled internationally with film - I assume carry-on X-ray machines are ok? Any feedback on any or all of the above would be very much appreciated.

Having noticed that my (wonderful) new Vario tends to overexpose more often than I'm used to, I decided to test the camera's light meter using the Sunny/16 rule. Using a high quality 18 percent grey card in direct sunlight, I made a series of measurements that raise more questions than I myself can answer, so I'm hoping some of you may be able to help. The idea is that the camera, using aperture priority, should pick a shutter speed equal to the ISO value. Instead, with spot metering, the shutter speeds are double the expected value: ISO 100 : 1/200 ISO 200 : 1/400 ISO 400 : 1/800 etcetera With centre-weighted metering the results are different (though they should be the same, having taken care to fill the frame with the grey card): ISO 100 : 1/160 ISO 200 : 1/320 ISO 400 : 1/640 etcetera Now to make things even more complicated, I found that in manual mode, the on screen exposure meter reads zero at a third set of values: ISO 100 : 1/125 ISO 200 : 1/250 ISO 400 : 1/500 etcetera With this final test, there was no difference between spot and centre-weighted metering, which presents us with yet another riddle... Can anyone explain this? Or try to replicate these results with their Vario, just to rule out that I have a faulty item? Also, I'd welcome advice about adjusting exposure strategies in light (pun intended) of these irregularities. I use spot metering most of the time, and my thinking about exposure is largely in terms of Adams' Zones.

In Menu>Camera, I have 3 options for Exposure Metering Mode, i.e. Advanced, Classic, Classic with LV disabled. In Set>Metering Mode, I have another 3 options, i.e. Spot Metering, Center-weighted Metering, Multi-field Metering. Because of shutter lag, I hate to use Advanced metering mode. So I chose Classic in Menu>Camera. Now, I am uncertain which mode I should pick in Set>Metering Mode. Suppose I pick Multi-field Metering for Set>Metering Mode, then will I be able to meter in Classic Metering mode leveraging the Multi-field metering algorithm, instead of Classic & Center-weighted? Or is Multi-field only allowed to be functioned as a sub-set of Advanced Metering mode only when set so in Menu>Camera? In addition, if I hit the LV button for live view shooting while my M 240 is set for Classic & Multi-field metering, does my camera change the metering mode automatically to Advanced & Multi-field as long as I remain in LV mode? And I don't have to re-set back to my preferred metering mode immediately after I finish the LV mode shooting, am I correct? Lastly, what is your preferred mode between Center-weighted and Multi-filed? Thanks in advance for your advice. Don

Hi New user of the X1. Are the metering mode icons correct? Page 77 of the manual shows item 2.1.22 a) as centre weighted with no dot in the centre as multi-field with a dot in the centre and c) as spot metering. © looks correct, but the other two would make more sense the other way around or is this a typo? Is the 'Evaluative' mode that others refer to? Any comments from users please? Thanks
