1. Help! All of the functions buttons on my M8 have been de activated. The camera still seems to work fine otherwise, but I can't even access the main Menu. Does anyone have related experience? Is there any trick to re-activate these functions? Thanks
2. I have been a long time reader of this forum and bought my M9 in April 2010 after reading many post here. However, this is my first post. Last night I was taking photos at my daughter's party when from one shot to the next, the camera went haywire. I have attached photos to illustrate this and I have no idea what is going on. One moment it was taking photos normally and the next....this. This morning I have tried the following things to see if I can have any effect on the behaviour: Experimented with varying ISO and shutter speed Turned camera on and off several times Reset camera to facory default settings via menu Changed lenses (VC 35 f1.2 to Summicron 35) Removed and replaced battery The firmware is version 1.116 (as originally received from factory). The camera has never malfunctioned before. There are several issues occurring as you can see from the images: There is a distinct division of the image left to right, with a clear vertical line. The left side is darker. White balance is abnormal and different on each side of the image There is some "smearing" of colour in some photos, not all In some photos (very dark) there is a vertical zonation apparent on the right hand side I am gobsmacked and at a loss to explain what has happened. Would appreciate any thoughts that you might be able to offer on this.
3. Hello friends, I have been having trouble with my good ol' M8 lately. It appears when I have just switched on the camera to begin shooting, Sometimes (not always) the first pictures I shoot are overexposed and blurred. The only way to fix it is to set a fast shutter speed (1/1000) and fire off another frame and then return to the correct shutter speed. Then the camera will work again. I have tried the following remedies without any help: Charging the battery, switching the battery. Changing the SD card. Reformatting the SDcard (they are SanDisk cards 2 Gb), None of these things work. What is even more frustrating is that the error happens every now and then, but not every time I switch the camera on. I have the latest firmware. Example 1: Ice hockey match. EXIFsays 1/250 First picture: Second picture after doing the shutter speed change trick: I guess I will need to send the camera to Solms. Nevertheless, I would be very grateful if any of you could explain what might be wrong. The more precisely I can explain my problem, themore likely is it that they will be able to identify it, even though it does not appear all the time. Thanks a lot! "HP"
4. Hello friends, I seem to have an issue that is not entirely rare. The cloth focal plane shutter curtain seems to stutter, or even bounce. I have searched this issue prior, and I guess "bounce" does seem to be the syntax for this certain phenomenon. I have included a clip of the shutter at 1/500 from a slow-mo video I attempted to take on my phone. I also scrubbed the video and took a screenshot of every frame that contained the movement of the shutter in the video. And to my surprise, by looking at the past two frames, the shutter does indeed appear to "bounce". The shutter seems to travel the full distance, with the second to last frame capturing the almost fully relaxed shutter. But then the last frame shows a larger gap of light appearing again. Not ideal. I noticed on a couple photos I took, a bar of overexposure on the right side of the frame. Since this issue is well documented and the solution known (CLA baby) my purpose for cluttering this forum with a much too common ailment was to possibly learn what could cause this? To make this already long winded post windier; I purchased the camera from Shueido Camera back in March 2022. It was supposedly CLA'd before sending out. The camera did come in, visually, absolute pristine condition. The first test roll I shot didn't seem to have any issues. But then I went on a 10 day trip to Iceland. Almost none of the photos I took in Iceland had the bar, but with overcast, cloudy days, I was most likely shooting at 1/250 and lower. (From what I understand this issue comes alight mostly at 1/500 & 1/1000 (increased tension for high speeds?)) Upon returning to the land of America, I shot some random pictures around me to finish off my last roll from Iceland. Almost all the photos exhibit the nefarious white bar of sadness on the right edge of the photo. Now, this is Florida, during midday, in summer, so one could assume almost every photo I took was at 1/500 and 1/1000. Could the Leica's foray into the land of Fire and Ice been too much for it's old bones? Could the 10 days of constant cold (I camped for the duration of my stay, so my new buddy did not spend much time in a comfy, first class, heated environment) affected this old tools mechanism, summoning the frosty ghost of over exposure? Thanks for even reading this phone typed, mental diarrhea. I know I have to get it CLA'd, but it is just simply a bummer that a camera would need a second CLA in one year. I'm hoping to figure out how this may have been caused so I may avoid bringing this problem back in the future. MOV_HFR_120F_20220723012348~3.mp4
5. I recently bought a M240. Now in Norway there has been two days with temperatures around zero degrees celsius. I went out shooting both days, and both days the same thing happened. Suddenly and without warning the camera seemed to lock itself. None of the buttons worked. I could still fire the shutter, but no pictures were recorded. Anyone have a clue?
6. After a serious hike up Volcan Madera in Isla Ometepe, Nicaragua, I am fairly certain my M battery has given up the ghost. It doesn't turn on the camera anymore and stays in 'low charge' mode on the charger forever, occasionally giving the green and orange LED 'blinking' error when trying to charge. Perhaps some water got into it, or it is simply its time to go. Sadly, I don't have any way to get a new Leica M battery easily in Central America. Does anyone know if there's a possible fix? I've kept it in a bag of rice just in case some of the more moist tropical air was the culprit, but that doesn't seem to have fixed it. Long shot, I know, but I'd love to continue shooting down here.
