  1. I'd like to use an 1:1 adapter for the macro-elmarit-R 60mm lens. I see that the adapter originally made for the lens was Leica product code no. 14198 and was later replaced by a newer adapter, product code 14256. is there any real benefit of one versus the other? I assume that the sizes must be nearly the same. Thanks!
  2. What about having a separate image thread just for macro pictures? Hope this will be followed, we can share our macro takes but also our questions, doubts, experiences... ISO 200 f/2.8 1/1000 In this one two pics superposed. ISO 100 f/2.8 1/250
  3. An excellent but quirky lens. It is a big and heavy piece of glass, slightly larger than the 55-135 and 75 grams more (650 g) but it feels heavier than that. It is -just- usable on the CL but the lack of IBIS (the lens has no OIS) dictates high shutter speeds. Build quality is correspondingly the proverbial tank. The design was not done with esthetics in mind. The optical quality is astoundingly good at all distances, from full 1:1 macro to infinity, with only the faintest trace of lateral CA. I cannot compare, but from memory it seems to be at least as good as the APO-Macro-Elmarit R, albeit not quite APO but with the advantage of not needing an Elpro. The Bokeh is very smooth and pleasant. AF may not be the fastest in the industry. but it is very precise and fast enough to keep up with my dog running towards me. The AF limiter switch is essential, as the lens will tend to hunt from infinity to 1:1 and back without it, taking seconds, especially when doing in-camera focus stacking (S cameras) Limiting the range solves the problem. The focal length on full frame is on the short side for hand-held full macro, but it is doable. On the CL it will go into micro photography. I disliked manual focusing with macro - it takes many turns to wind the lens out to 1:1, so much so that I found it nearly unusable. AF only or at best static tripod use. However, the lens is equally effective as a landscape, portrait and macro lens. Conclusion: A very versatile workhorse which will deliver top image quality. At the cost of bulk and weight. A steal at the price. (yes, I know my CL is filthy... )
  4. Hello Forum members, I am hoping to get some information about the Leitz BELUN 1:1 copy stand for the Leitz Elmar 5 cm lens in combination with a macro-tube. The BELUN set that I just received contains the three rods imprinted "ELMAR" and a macro (extension) tube imprinted "ELMAR SUMMAR 1:1". I have seen photos of similar setups a couple of times online so I thought it should work for 1:1 reproduction (I want to digitize film using a SONY A7"). Testing the setup yesterday with my SONY A7 + KF Concept E - M-mount adapter + M-mount - LTM adapter + BELUN macro tube + Elmar 5cm lens + 3-leg copy stand setup, I wasn't able to achieve any in-focus image with the Elmar lens in any focussing position and aperture f/9. I only get grain resolution (or sufficient sharp images) if I push the Elmar halfway in. My question is now if there are any variations in the setup or settings required? Any tips or info is very welcome. Cheers, Gabor
  5. Good Day! Is it possible to tell if an image was taken in Macro mode vs. not from exif data? I am using Lightroom and do not see any indication. It would be nice to be able to identify that on my images. Thanks in advance.

  7. Hi there, I'm new here, from Chile, and need some advice: I have seen a LEICA bellows (16 880) on the Website of a danish photographer, called Thorsten von Overgaard. I'd like to buy one and went on eBay, but these bellows seem to be sold out, perhaps because of the recommendation on that website (scroll down): https://www.overgaard.dk/Leica-M-Type-240-aka-Leica-M10-digital-rangefinder-camera-page-33-The-Leica-R-Lenses-on-Leica-M240-Catwalk.html I wouldn't want to put a blue NOVOFLEX bellows on my LEICA camera, so a new one doesn't do the trick for me. I'm a bit old-fashioned and so for my esthetics a bellows has to be black . . . Would somebody of you out there know, where I could possibly buy a 16880 bellows in MINT conditions? Or which one would be a good alternative to that 16880? What I need that bellows for is to be able to shoot photos in my house, while being confined through that epidemia. I'd take similar photographs as this Overgaard chap, you can look at his at the website (see link above). Very much looking forward to your posts, Peter
  8. Is it possible to couple an iPhone to the SL2 so that it can be easily used to view from the front of a vertical copy setup with the camera facing down (e.g an enlarger or Bencher type arrangement). I want to be able to copy slides, 35mm/6x6 negatives and prints. If this can be done are there special cables or connectors that are best to use?
  9. I'm looking to 'play around' with some macro photography. Nothing serious at this stage so don't want to spend much. I have a Novoflex R-SL adaptor which I use with a 50mm Summicron R I have and it works fine. Has anyone any thoughts on both the Elmarit-R f2.8 60mm and the Elmar-R f4 100mm, both of which seem to be reasonably priced on eBay. Any pitfalls to look out for and most importantly, will that work with the SL using manual and Focus Peaking? Many thanks

  17. Here is a macro image of my first camera purchased at the age of 13. I still have it in my collection. Thought it would be fun to have a topic just for Macro with the Q2.
  18. Hi I am probably missing something I have Leica CL with M Adapter since I shoot mostly with my M lenses, I also had some additional adapter from Rollei QBM to M Recently I bought Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f/1.4 HFT Lens for Rollei QBM (made in West Germany) wonderful lens in itself, now when I mounted it on Leica CL everything works well, infinity and so on. But there is something strange instead for focusing at 0.45 meters it focuses may be at half of that distance or less, so to to some extend it bevies behaves like a macro/close focus lens Can someone please explain what is going on ? I definitely do not mind but I am just very curious Sample photo attached shot into the mirror Sincerely Eugene
  19. As spring rolls around and hearts turns to flowers, I'm hoping to get back to macro with my Q. I have to admit that I've rarely used add-on flash (my Fuji x100 has built-in), so I'm blissfully unaware of the complications. I know that some enjoy this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1030212-REG/canon_9389b002_mr_14ex_ii_macro_ring.html?sts=pi But it's quite expensive and wondering if less expensive versions will work also, such as below. And, what exactly do I mean by "work"? Thanks so much. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1125848-REG/yongnuo_yn_14ex_c_ttl_led_macro_ring.html?
  20. Hi guys, Could I ask for your experience for a moment? I'm thinking about an equipment acquisition (not an S3 unfortunately!) to help me solve a problem and do some better work. I've been getting a few jobs photographing small accessories recently -- pin badges / lapel badges, shiny little things like that -- and am finding the otherwise excellent APO MACRO SUMMARIT 120/2.5 often won't get me as close as I'd like. My customer was happy with my work, regardless, and more is coming down the pipeline. I can deliver what I need to do with the native 120 and cropping, or setting up different shots to begin with; but I'd really like to get 1:1, or past the 1:2 the S-120 stops at, for the smaller trinkets (what I'm really talking about is I'd like the perspective, the look, the close camera-subject distance would give me). A portion of the work is plain-vanilla product stills for catalog/online stores and the 120 and a longer working distance is fine for that, but I also got, and will get, creative work from them which is used for posters / ads: that's where I want to be getting up very close and making the more dramatic photographs of their product that I'd like to. Has anyone out there been in my shoes: tried the C645 system Zeiss 120 Makro and got a result; or tried it and found it wasn't the right solution? All stories welcome---even if you didn't use the Zeiss 120 for 1:1 stuff, how did you find it for what you did use it for? Cheers guys Tom Postscript: Just as a pre-emptive strike, I'd like to keep advice limited to the S-system (inc. S-to-Contax645 obviously). Using other formats and systems to solve my problem is of course an option---one I don't need to talk about here on the S-system forum. I really like the S-system for my work and my preference is to find an S-system based solution, I appreciate that that may be like trying to ice-skate uphill in some cases but I'd hope you can appreciate my freedom of choice to do so. Also! I know the Zeiss 120 is a manual focus only lens; I only focus manually on the S, so that works itself out OK
  21. I am new to and interested in exploring Macro photography using M240 and M-Macro Ring or Oufro adapters. My questions are regarding DOF. How does the addition of a macro setup generally alter DOF, does extending the lens from the body diminish the normal DOF parameters for a given lens without a Macro ring, and would the DOF of a Wide angle vs. Tele lens be more or less affected by the macro setup? If anyone experienced can comment i'd appreciate hearing about it?
  22. Hello, I just sold my Nikon gear and hopefully I will get my M10 next week. I also ordered the 50mm Summilux and for the lower range the 28mm Summilux. Since I am not familiar with the product range (yet), I am looking for something at the upper range. Yesterday I found a 90mm (Elmar ?) macro for which you need to purchase a macro adapter. Is this a good lens for macro shots since the adapter has a 1:2 magnifying factor or are there other, better lenses for that purpose on the market ? Thank you very much for your replies. Greetings, Jurgen
  23. Hallo!
