I am planning to live in Asia for coming year, my M9M had the sensor replaced in the early stage of replacement. Should I not bring it those hot and humid weather places in order to keep the longevity of the sensor? Any M9, M9M owners in Asia, can share your experience? Thanks James

2022 will be in the past in less than 24 hours, just out of curiosity, do you think you will / may trade your M9 series camera for another camera body in 2023? Never say never but I probably won't. The optical framelines is a big reason for me to stay. Also I am so use to the work flow and 'limitations' of the M9 series that I don't feel like 'upgrading'. The thing I will seriously consider upgrading is the software; LR6 won't be compatible with my new macbook air and I am leaning towards Capture1 but this should not be discussed here. What about you? Will be great to hear your thoughts. Happy New Year to all of you!

Four years ago I bought a used M262 camera. It was my first digital Leica M body. I used it for a year a didn't bond with it and decided to let it go. I vowed at the time that a digital M was not for me. Today in 2022 after the release of the M11, I came back full circle and purchased a steel grey M9 with an updated sensor for a price more than what I had paid for my M262 purchase. A quick background: I mainly photograph street & environmental portraits using my x100v and GR2. I enjoy them but also love analog/film photography. I love and collect various M film bodies and lenses and shoot color negative film and develop+scan at home to save cost. I use my Sony A9 to scan, for video work and also to adapt my M lenses on. Last week I spent a considerable amount of time developing & scanning over 30 rolls of color films that I had from 2021. I enjoy the final output of film but no matter how I justify it, scanning and editing is a lot of work and time to dedicate as a family guy. I looked at the cost of a dedicated high-end scanner like the Pakon but the prices are in the same ballpark if not more than the "older" digital M bodies. This led me to looking at M digital bodies again. So after some deliberation I decided I'm going to try the M9 to see if it will give me the same "film like" qualities for my images. I'm not a pixel peeper and print occasionally at 8x12 size. I've read alot about the limitation of the M9 body with it's sensor issues, aged electronics/battery and low ISO functionality (which i don't mind as a daytime photographer). I'm curious to see if the "M9 magic talk" is real or hype, I will find out soon after I have it on my hands. Will follow up. -
Went out to test newly acquired Canon Ltm 50mm 1.4 Version II. What an incredible lens ! So much character wide open, pretty sharp as well. Very strong stepped down. Great contrast all the way. Best 200$ cdn spent in the last few months. Strongly recommend it to whoever is looking for affordable 50mm option and wants it to have "balls" Love it.

Hey guys! I spent 6 weeks in NYC basically just taking pictures ... mostly street, but also Landscape and People ... I mostly used my M9 and 35mm Summilux ASPH (pre FLE) wide open and sometimes my S (006) and 70mm Summarit. If I don't comment which combo I used, it'll be the M9 35Lux combo... Feel free to comment and critique I'm not a pro and I just do stuff the way I like it .. so not everything is perfect... Here are a couple of shots from the End of July .. some of the best sunsets I have ever seen.

Good morning, From time to time I like to give myself a project to try and enhance my craft and keep me interested. This year my project is street portraits. It definitely puts one outside of one's comfort zone. My approach is simple, I look around for interesting characters, approach them and ask can I take their portrait. I have only been declined once (a nun who was praying) it is disappointing but important to respect this even when it means missing a fantastic shot! Most people are actually really happy to be asked, I like to chat a little whilst I am shooting to set people at ease and get more relaxed photos. People have even thanked me for taking time to talk to them which is really nice. I always show them the shot after on the LCD and tell them my website address to see the image later. I'm thinking of having some business cards printed to make this easier. I like to shoot wide open to get separation. One of the staff at Leica Store Manchester gave me the tip of focusing on the eye then moving your head slightly back and forward to find focus rather than use the ring (I'm sure people already know this but i thought it was a good tip). I like to shoot half a dozen frames whilst doing this to ensure focus is on the eye not slightly out. Good morning, This weekend I was in the lovely little town of Leamington Spa which happened to be hosting the 38th annual peace festival. Hey, would you buy a Leica M 9 with an updated processor. So we could keep the nice sensor and have a more responsive camera. I would love to have the choice of using a CCD but with a faster response time and maybe live view could be achieved. I shoot the camera the way it is. And I can live with it's limitations. But if I could choose, I would love to have this option. Same with the M8. If I could get one with updated processor, I would buy it. What about you?

We know that Leica M9 was launched 09.09.09 ... at such a nice period. For me this first digital full frame Leica has won Collector Status. I still use it, and the images from this old friend are great, even with today's standard. This is from old Kodachrome slide taken some years back in Colmar scanned with M9, macro 50mm lens on bellows, then only need some dust cleaning, resize for LUF nothing more needed !

My M9 fell to the ground from waist level. When I try to take a photo, the shutter is not working. Battery is full and all menus are working, no issues on the display as well, even the light meter also working. Somebody pls help

Hallo, ich habe mir vor Jahr und Tag eine M9 neu gekauft. Habe aber die M9 nicht benutzt , da ich lieber analog gearbeitet habe. Dann kam das Thema "Sensor" auf und ich habe um meine M9 zu prüfen einige Zeit mit der M9 fotografiert. Alles im "Grünen Bereich" - keine Probleme. Auf Nachfrage hat man mir gesagt, wenn da bis jetzt nichts passiert ist, dann kommt da auch nichts mehr. Sie brauchen nichts zu unternehmen. Also die M9 wieder weggepackt. Gestern nun M9 genommen , Objektiv angesetzt , Winterfoto gemacht .. und nix ! In der Mitte hell und an beiden Rändern irgendwelche Farbe. Karte formatiert. Das gleiche Ergebnis. Firmware kontrolliert und neu aufgespielt. Wieder Mist. Leica angerufen und 2 Beispielfotos an den Service gesendet. Aber man hat mir wenig Hoffnung gemacht. Es gibt keinen neuen Sensor mehr und wenn der es nicht ist, dann ist es irgendein Board, welches es auch nicht mehr gibt. So ganz kann ich mit dieser Sachlage nicht zufrieden sein. Eine recht teuere Digitalkamera mit weniger als 1.000 Auslösungen , gibt nach kurzer Benutzung und danach nur im Schrank gelegen, einfach den Geist auf und es gibt keinen Ersatz. Äußerlich sieht die M9 aus wie neu aus dem Laden. Die Update - Angebote habe ich auf der Leica Seite gesehen. Aber das kann ich nur als schlechten Scherz bewerten. Nach den Erfahrungen soll ich eine weitere große Summe in eine DIGITAL - LEICA investieren ? Gibt es ähnliche Erfahrungen ? Ich habe auch Digitalkameras von Nikon D3 und neuer die D810 von denen sind solche Probleme nicht bekannt. Na ja, die kosten ja nicht soviel. Es tut mir in der Seele weh, wenn ich nur denke die M9 einfach zu entsorgen. Es muß doch eine Möglichkeit geben. -

Cori & I drove into town yesterday for an early dinner and to stroll around town. Ierapetra is a place full of character and one that absolutely matches my beat up old M9. Somehow the vibe of the town called for me to shoot on JPG instead of my usual DNGs. Here are a few photos. Have any of you ever been here?

Servus Leute Ich bin die Sarah, knapp 37, und grüße euch aus dem schönen Fichtelgebirge! Ja, ich bin eine Der Verrückten die jetzt, 08/2022, noch eine M9 gekauft haben. 🤪 Und ja, Sensor in 2016 gewechselt, Wartung in 2021, top Zustand - soviel Verständnis hatte ich dann schon. Ich bin Neu im Leica M System, nach 20 Jahren Fotografie und weit über 100 Kameras habe auch ich meinen Einstieg dazu gefunden. Bis jetzt ist es für mich auf gut neudeutsch "mindblowing". Klar, es gibt ein paar neuere Modelle, aber ich wollte bewusst mit dem alten CCD Modell und einer "preisbewussten" Kamera, dafür mit guter Opti, starten. Wer weiss schon was die Zukunft bringt. Diesbezüglich wich mein grosses MFT Panasonic/PanaLeica System, dafür ziert nun ein Summilux 50 1.4 pre asph in der E46 Variante meine M9. Für Tipps im Umgang mit der M und Austausch mit Gleichgesinnten wäre ich dankbar. Bis bald, man liest sich.

Greetings everyone, I have been using the M9 since 2016. Earlier this year I traded it for an M9P and thought that will be good enough for my amateurish skill level and enjoyment. Until I started reading this forum to find out the black and white mindset change with the M9M which is exhilarating! I could not shake off this thought and now here I am, an owner of a used M9M (new sensor) in 2022. Thank you Leica Forum!

Few weeks ago, I use my M9-P compared to Kodak 35mm film (Portra 160 & 800). Honestly, I don't think how good is M9 series image performance, but the CCD do makes M9 series become the unique one in Leica digital camera. Hi all, Not sure there is any solution to this but my M9 screen has started to show what appear to be dead pixels, to be clear they are not on the photo but are the screen pixels. (excuse crappy phone photo). Anyone seen this before or have any idea if it is fixable. To be fair it isn't a show stopper since I rarely use the screen except in tricky light to check exposure which is still doable. Any comments/advice welcome but I fear I will have to put up with it until it eventually dies. Shame as it has an new style sensor and otherwise works fine.
