  1. I recently purchased a 21mm Summilux and a Brightline Finder 12024 to accompany it. When I slide the finder into the hotshoe on my M10 it feels remarkably loose and unstable, so much so that if the camera is tipped it will slide out. This can't be right. Investigating further I tried the same viewfinder on my M9-P and it fits securely, same when I try it on an M4 body. There are raised bars under the edges of the M9 hotshoe (see attached photos) and similarly on the M4 they seem to have springs under bars to use light pressure to hold things in place. Did something fall off my M10 without my noticing? On a stock m10 is the center area with the pin cluster flush with the rest of the hotshoe or is that area in the center raised up a bit from the bare metal? All other hotshoe items that I use have pin locks so nothing else falls out. I had a thumbs-up grip that went in the hot shoe that was too loose as well. I had assumed it was the grip bring too small, not that something was missing from my camera. Can anyone confirm this behavior or help me to understand what I may be missing? I I can use a small bit of gaffer's tape to fill in the loose area when using the viefinder on the the M10 but that hardly seems like the best solution. M9 hotshoe with raised pressure bars: M10, same area: M10 Top Down: M10 Straight in, note slightly raised center pin cluster. Is there a surrounding plate that is missing on my hotshoe?:
  2. Few weeks ago, I use my M9-P compared to Kodak 35mm film (Portra 160 & 800). Honestly, I don't think how good is M9 series image performance, but the CCD do makes M9 series become the unique one in Leica digital camera. M9-P w/Summicron 35mm f2 11673 (f/2.0, Auto WB, ISO 800) 👇 Kodak Portra 800 w/Summilux 35mm f1.4 11663 (f/2.0) 👇
  3. I am having issues with the WB value on M9-P, or rather the value that Lightroom brings the image in at. I have an M9-P with firmware v 1.196. I shoot at 6000k, but when I import the image (DNG) into Adobe Lightroom 5.2 the WB setting gets altered to 4820k. I raise or lower the WB value and although there is no linear correlation between the value set on the camera and the value set on the imported image, the value assigned to the image in Lightroom is still markedly different from the value that the image has been shot at. I went into Leica Mayfair yesterday and tried the following steps to isolate the cause of the problem: 1. Importing the same image into another copy of Lightroom and it produces similar results although not actually reaching the same WB value as my installation of Lightroom did. Both versions were identical (5.2), and they are vanilla installations with no import filters applied. 2. I have tried shooting at 6000k on an M9 body (provided by Leica UK) with firmware 1.196 and when importing the image it changed the value to 5200k 3. I then tried shooting at 6000k on an M-240 body and it imported at 5800k (closer but still not 6000k). The results are inconclusive - is the problem in the camera (Is there a colour calibration file/setting embedded inside the camera that needs changing/updating? Is the camera writing the full metadata settings to the DNG file?) or is Adobe Lightroom 5.2 not able to import/interpret the metadata correctly and is therefore converting at a different value? Has anyone else experienced the same problem? It is hugely frustrating and I'm struggling to know where to turn next. Although they were helpful and we had a long discussion about this problem Leica Mayfair weren't able to advise on next steps. I have the images from yesterday's experiments. I would like to get in contact with Leica in Germany directly but can't seem to find an email address. Thanks in advance.
  4. Ok, since I purchased my new M9-P in October 2011 it has had the red line dead pixel issue, fixed by Leica USA with a new sensor two months after I purchased it. Two months ago the camera while mounted on a tripod came off in my hands, the shell of the body broke off where the cam latches the bottom cover on, fixed by Leica USA without question. Today I noticed a dark diagonal line in the corner of all my pictures and when I inspected the sensor noticed a big diagonal crack in the sensor glass! WTF! I know Leica will fix the camera yet again but come on. I've never had so many problems with a camera as I have with this one, and I've had a lot of cameras in my life. I love the images that this camera produces but I don't think I can really do this anymore, add the fact that my warranty runs out in Oct. maybe it's time to cut my losses and sell it for what I can get for it once its fixed.
  5. I plan to use a Leica Screw Mount to Leica M Bayonet adaptor on my M9. I notice that there are 2 or 3 Leica variants of the adaptor and each is marked and designed to match one or two lens focal lengths. This is to bring the correct frame lines into the viewfinder. That's as far as I understand. Can someone explain "if", or "how" the dimensions of these adaptors vary in order to achieve this task. Thanks Newbie Lucerne
  10. Finally got my new black Leica M9-P and a second hand Summicron 50mm. Been missing my Leica since I sold my M8 and 35mm Summilux last. I deeply regret selling the 35. But till I get a new 35 my 50 Summicron will have to do. So far loving the camera. Battery life sucks, but I got 2 spare batteries. 11. This is apparently a screengrab from the Leica homepage and were published for just a brief moment and have since been taken down... Or it could also be that I'm dreaming of just such a thing, anyways.. good stuff this Weissbier that I'm drinking.. just thought I add to the M9-P hysteria. Cheers, Andreas
  12. Leica rumors is talking about an Leica M9-P, what could that be? As written, some dealer might accept pre orders. But, for what? M9 with some material changes? Or just a better glass on the known back screen??
  13. I will be getting a Leica M9-P that comes with a 50mm Summicron. From what i've read the next best lens would be the 35mm Summilux ASPH FLE. Just wanted to get some opinions as well as any new user tips or ideas to boot. I want to start out with both as I know they will last a long time with proper maintenance and care and from what i've read 35mm is the best focal length to start shooting with. Worst case scenario I'll be able to re-sale fairly easily. - Davy
  14. Hello! Here's an image from this afternoon... Brussels, Belgium, with my Elmar 24mm f/3.8 (and Leica M9-P). I'm very happy with the results! Cheers! Baldomero Photography by Baldomero Coelho
  15. Hi there. I have just bought a second hand SF 240, and it came with no instructions. Does anyone have a pdf copy i could have ?, i'm willing to pay for this. Thanx in advance
  18. hello everyone! i read a lot about leica users being worried about their cameras getting wet and stuff...so here is a little field report: i am now back from a 3 day assignment covering a traditional mountain crossing in austria...first day was perfect weather so no problems...2nd day was not quite as good...it poured down the whole day...and we had to walk down from 2200m to 600m above sea level for about 7 hours...to make it short: everything was completely soaked...i for myself, my backpack and my lowe carrying case (which is of very good quality, but you guys know that...they arent the sexiest bags out there but worth the money)...since i was on an assignment i had to take photos...and my m9-p got really really wet...and not just that...since it was so cold and humid outside, once we entered huts on the way the camera steamed up real bad...it looked like there were 2mm of water around the camera...that left me a bit worried so i wiped it as good as i could until it got warm enough...then out again, then in again and so on...that whole story went on for 7 hours and i tell you again, everything was soaked and i was worried as hell so the good news: the camera was and still works perfect! no worries at all...crystal clear and sharp images! so to make it short for real this time: it might not be weather sealed, but it can take a lot, that little m9-p fella i love this little thing!
