I love my M-D and the ISO control on the back. There are the usual numbers - 200, 400, 800, 1600, etc., and there are two stop points between each one so, in theory, one can graduate between the known values. I like this control. I see the M10-D uses the ‘rewind’ ISO control. Does that too have 2 stops between each labelled value? Or is there a lower level of control on the M10-D?

I realized, after using an M3 since Christmas (my foray into the Leica world) that I would also like a digital version. Yesterday I lost an M-D on ebay, it went for US$4,100 and I had bid $4,000. Looking around there just aren’t any available for good prices. I was thinking about the possibility of getting an M 240 / 262 and converting it to an M-D myself by removing the screen and buttons and replacing the leather covering. Given falling prices on the M10 and stupid prices on the M10D that might be a better starting point but there likely isn’t much of a difference in the work required. No doubt there’s a bit more work involved than I’ve alluded to but I’m a fairly handy kind of guy (I design and build my own hi-fi electronics and speakers for example) and thought perhaps somebody else in a similar predicament to myself may have done something similar ???

My dream camera would be a Monochrome within an M-D style body. Given the increased technology the in the M10-D, even if Leica chose to launch a Monochrome version, it would not be for me. Does anyone have any thoughts on the practicality of putting the 246 sensor in an M-D body?

Is the M-D discontinued? I was just looking for a copy in Canada, and emailed "The Camera Store" in Calgary (as well as many other Canadian retailers), and the reply I got from the Camera Store follows: Hi xxxxxx, I just heard back from my Leica rep. They don't have any M-D's left in stock and the rumor is that they likely won't be able to order anymore in since they are unofficially discontinued. Sorry for the bad news. Best regards, -- Erin Thomson, Online Sales I then asked if they knew anything about what would replace the M-D, and this was the reply: Hi xxxxxx, Our Leica rep said that as of right now he does not think there is anything in the works for a replacement. Please let me know if you have any questions. Best Regards -- Angie Carson, Online Sales I'm just curious why they would discontinue the newest version of the M240/262 based camera before the rest of the line up, and what this might mean in general! Has anyone else heard anything like this? Cheers

Hello, I have a M-D (bought second-hand) and it's the perfect camera for me who started out with film back in the 90's. In any case, I don't shoot in continuous mode (single only) and for the first few years, I haven't had any issues but as of late, I've been having shutter lag issues. I would turn on the camera and have to depress the shutter and wait for the camera to "buffer" or whatever it is. There's a blinking red light on the back bottom right of the camera. I have to wait anywhere between 10-20 seconds. After the lag, I can take photos (as many as I'd like) but once I stop shooting and regardless if I turn the camera back off or leave it on, after maybe 10-20 mins, when I depress the shutter again, there's the same lag. I initially thought it had to do with the SD card so I bought new SD cards with very high read/write speeds. But it doesn't seem to help. I'm not sure what else it could be unless it's some sort of degradation and there's not a whole lot of information out there on M-D. Most shutter lag posts have been about Leica's with back screens that the user can change options, update software or shooting in C-mode (none of which applies to me). Help? Thanks.
