Liebes Forum, ich möchte mir Anfang nächsten Jahres eine digitale M anschaffen und stehe vor der Frage ob es eine M10 werden soll oder ob eine M240 nicht doch ausreicht. zu meiner Situation: Ich habe vor ca. 15 Jahren mit Nikon angefangen zu fotografieren und bin irgendwann auf Sony umgestiegen und habe diese Ausrüstung auch noch nach wie vor als meinen daily Driver (nur Hobby, Job hat nichts mit Fotos zu tun). Vor ein paar Jahren habe ich eine sehr umfangreiche Leica R-4 Ausrüstung und eine Leica M4-2 mit Objektiven (Summicron 35mm, 50mm und Tele-Elmarit 90mm) geerbt. Ich habe mich dann auch relativ intensiv mit den Systemen beschäftigt und so mit der analogen Fotografie angefangen. Nach ca. zwei Jahren ist das leider aber wieder eingeschlafen. Wenn, dann hol ich noch ausschließlich die M raus. Ehrlich gesagt hab ich sie vor allem dabei um sie dabei zu haben. Es macht einfach Spaß die M in der Hand zu halten, das entschleunigte Fotografieren durch die Messfeld-Fokussierung und überhaupt so eine hochwertige mechanische Technik zu bedienen. Was (mir) aber nicht wirklich viel Spaß macht, ist das Belichtungsmessen über den Leica Meter. Das entschleunigt mir dann doch etwas zu sehr. Auch merke ich immer wieder, dass ich die Bilder gerne gleich sehen möchte und mir die analoge Fotografie dann doch nicht so sehr liegt, wie ich mir das vielleicht wünschen würde. Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn: Ich überlege, die komplette R-Ausrüstung (R4, 4 Objektive und ein Haufen Zubehör) zu verkaufen und das als „Startkapital“ für eine digitale M zu nehmen. Leider ist der Marktwert einer R-Ausrüstung ja nicht mit dem einer M vergleichbar. Daher kommt eine M11 schon mal nicht in Frage (ist auch nicht notwendig, das wäre dann doch mit Spatzen auf Kanonen werfen, oder so). Die Frage, die sich mir stellt ist, ob es eine M10 sein sollte, oder ob eine M240 nicht auch ausreicht. Der Preisunterschied von ca. 1.500€ ist schon heftig. Was mich aber verunsichert ist, dass es sich bei der M240 einfach um 12 Jahre alte Technik handelt. Ich möchte eigentlich nicht - gefühlsmäßig - in meine Nikon-Anfänge zurück fallen. Natürlich ist die M10 auch nicht gerade taufrisch, aber zumindest „nur“ ca. halb so alt. Aber auch echt teuer, für eine nicht aktuelle Kamera. Die Gläser aus den 70er- und 80er-Jahren sollten ja hoffentlich auch noch genug Abbildungsleistung für beide Sensoren bringen. Ich würde mich echt freuen, wenn ihr mir hier weiterhelfen könntet, was in meiner Situation Sinn macht und was nicht! Liebe Grüße und einen schönen zweiten Advent!

Hello, I took a trip on a sailing ship half around Europe, from the Netherlands to Portugal. Here I like to show a few pictures from it. I decided to take my good old M 240 with me and wondered that she survived. She got sprayed with salt water, was dangling against the made of steel bowsprit or other things, stays wet most of the time and slipped together with me about 4 meters along the floor of the deckhouse in a storm to be stopped from some tables and banks. I like to travel light so when I saw one of these my eyes boggled! Put the M 240 with 50 attached in compartment, 28 alongside and the 135 slips into the bottled water holder. Any thoughts?

Hello Everyone I have an M8 and M9. I use the M8 mainly for infrared and as a backup when travelling. I want to buy the M 240 for all sorts of reasons ..... but money is a little tight and I would benefit from trading in either the M8 or M9 ( or both ). I have found the M9 to be very poor as an IR camera, but the M8 is superb. I think I want to end up with the M 240 and the M9 - but I don't want to give up shooting infrared photos. Can anyone please tell me how the M 240 performs as an IR camera. If I could get really good IR from the M 240, I could let the M8 go more easily ...... Many Thanks

We have spaces available on our special Leica 'Akademie' street photography workshop on the 28th of October 2016 in the centre of Bristol. This one day course will introduce attendees to the Leica M digital system and how to use the rangefinder system in a street photography environment and is open to both experienced users of Leica cameras as well as those who are new to the M rangefinder system. There will also be an opportunity to use the Leica SL and Q systems in a street environment. Leica Akademie tutor and freelance photographer, Robin Sinha, will host the day and introduce us to the Leica digital M system and how he uses it to maximise his street photography. The day will start at 10am and run until approximately 4.30pm, this will contain a two hour practical part of the day where you will have the opportunity to use the Leica digital cameras in a street environment. 10.00am – 11.00am – Robin Sinha will introduce you to his work with a short talk using his own images to demonstrate Leica Photography. 11.00am - 11.30am - Review and mini-critique of attendees images (attendees are asked to bring 4 images on a USB stick that represent their photography) 11.30am - 12.00pm Familiarisation with the Leica camera range prior to photowalk. 12.00pm – 12.30pm – Lunch break 12.30pm – 2.30pm – Photowalk around Bristol using the Leica cameras provided 2.30pm onwards – Back to the studio for image review and critique. Robin will also demonstrate how to edit your RAW files to get the best from the digital system. 4.30pm approx - finish There is a small charge of £20 for the day, which includes refreshments of tea or coffee. Unfortunately lunch is not provided, but there are plenty of local places to get something during the break. I just spotted this video on Youtube, where somebody dismantles an M to resolve a sticking Rangefinder. It doesn't look terribly difficult, but then again, neither do the Photoshop Tutorials I sometimes watch, which are baffling once I come to try it for real! Dear All, I have a nagging feeling that Leica HQ has forgotten an ignored it's digital M users! One year now and counting, and still no FW update to the digital M 240 platform cameras. There are a number of seemingly simple problems to fix, by no new FW updates for the M 240 for more than one year. I posses, and are still using most M cameras from my M3 SS (except the M5), up to and including my M P (Typ 240) and M Mono (Typ 246). I still enjoy analogue M, and they "chew" T-MAX 100 ISO 30 ft by the numbers. Fine as the M 240 is, there are a number of annoying problems that are easy to fix, but still no new FW from Leica HQ after more than one year. Have they forgotten us? But seriously, whay not fix what can be improved or polished!? One very annoying feature I encounter almost every day, is the completely imbesil control FW of the GPS MF grip, and not to mention SD card problems and EVF lockups! As an example, I went to PhotoKina last year, and stayed at a hotel (Marriott) close to the Køln Cathedral, a 25 minute walk to the PhotoKina exhibition area, a walk that is mostly in open air and in excellent view of the sky. During this walk the M 240 GPS does not manage to get a single position fix for the whole walk! After reaching the PhotoKina entrance, I had to sit down for more than ten minutes until the GPS got a position fix. Traversing the streets of Køln for four days, my images have only a few GPS position fixes. I contacted Leica about this problem, and they sent me a new GPS, only to experience the same problems thereafter. I love the M lenses and enjoy the RF experience, but this is 2015 and Leica need to take the die hard M users seriously by fixing whatever problems that can be fixed in FW in a timely manor. I realise that I am plain stupid, having spent close to 100k Euros on digital Ms and lenses since the introduction of the digital M8! But I feel left out in the dark and ignored by Leica not making the most of what it should by releasing timely updates to the M FW. Look at Fuji, they give customers a "new" camera even after several years, by issuing FW updates with new functionality! The M 240 is a great camera, but it could be so much more if Leica only wanted and recognised it's responsibility to users already invested in the system. I know that there are a lot of Leica fanboys out there that think that any change is "evil" and should note be implemented. However, I think the community og photographers that genuinely would like the M to be as usable as possible, and this can be accomplished by FM updates. I love the RF experience, but please save me from bad engineering, and fix the minor quirks, the M 240 could be a much better camera! I am not asking for autofocus or 100000 ISO, I just want a stable predictable digital M RF camera, and I think there are many others that wish for the same! Best regards Trond

Hallo in die Runde, nach lange Zeit bin ich wieder einmal hier im Forum und hoffe Ihr könnt mir weiter helfen. Hab schon etwas gesucht, aber keine wirkliche Antwort gefunden. Als ich vor vielleicht sieben Jahren ernsthaft angefangen habe zu fotografieren, hab ich das mit einer MP, einem 35er Summicron und TriX getan. Über die Ricoh GRDIII fand ich den Weg zur Digitalfotografie und heue bin ich haupstsächlich mit einer 5DII und 35 und 24mm unterwegs. Ich fotografiere hauptsächlich Reise und Reportage. Jetzt möchte ich endlich, und darauf habe ich Jahre gewartet, wieder zurück zur M. Meine MP werde ich (wohlgemerkt schweren Herzens) verkaufen und mir dafür eine MP (240) zulegen. Beim 35er Summicron werde ich definitiv bleiben. Nun die Frage: Welches wird meine zweite Brennweite? Ich schwanke zwischen 24er Elmar 3.8 und dem 28er Elmarit (jeweils die aktuelle Version). Für das 28er Elmarit spricht die Tatsache, dass es mir einfach gut gefällt (klein und handlich) und dass ich ein paar ganz gute Bilder mit der Ricoh gemacht habe, die ja 28mm entspricht. Außerdem, und das spielt eine wichtige Rolle, brauche ich da keinen Aufsteck-Sucher. Für das 24er Elmar spricht, dass 35 und 24mm in meinen Augen eine ideale Kombination bilden. Ich bin überzeugt, dass beides Tolle Linsen sind. Vielen Dank schon mal fürs Lesen, und wenn jemand bei der Entscheidungsfindung helfen möchte wäre ich sehr froh! Viele Grüße, Florian

Guten Tag, ich bin hier neu im Forum, vieleicht ist aber die Frage schon einmal an anderer Stelle aufgekommen. Gem. Gebrauchsanweisung für die M kann das Super-Angulon 1:3,4 /21 mm an der neuen M verwendet werden, es ist lediglich von der "Klassisch"-Belichtungsmessung ausgenommen. Unabhängig von der Belichtungsmessung weisen alle Aufnahmen am rechten Rand einen magenta farbenen Schimmer auf, unabhängig von Blendeneinstellung am Objektiv oder Belichtungseinstellung der Kamera. Diesen "Schimmer" erkennt man auch auf dem Monitor. Eine Erklärung wäre natürlich, dass das Objektiv weit in die Kamera hineinragt, dann stellt sich aber die Frage, warum der Schimmer nur auf der rechten Seite auftritt. Im übrigen glaube ich eigentlich immer der Gebrauchsanweisung des Herstellers. An der M 4 arbeitet das Objektiv ohne Probleme, so dass man hier einen Schaden wohl ausschließen kann. Viele Grüße

On page 164, the M240 manual states : " The available compression for DNG format .... retains all of the post-editing performed on the image data ..... " I don't understand this ............ I thought RAW meant direct recording of the sensor readout without alteration. Does the M 240 process/edit the DNG files in some way before writing to the card ? Does anyone know what is done in-camera to the DNG files ? Hoping someone can enlighten me please .... Many Thanks.

Ich frage mich, warum man bei der neuen M nicht noch Platz für einen zweiten Kartenslot gefunden hat. Zur Not - wenn es aus Platzgründen nicht anders geht - auch verbannt in den externen Griff. Mit der M9-P hatte ich bisher noch keinerlei Kartenprobleme. Ich nutze ausschließlich Sandisc Extreme 16GB 45MB/s mit Firmware 1.176. Und formatiere jede Karte vor erneutem Benutzen in der Kamera. Trotzdem habe ich bei einmaligen Shootings (Hochzeitsreportagen/Unternehmen) immer ein ungutes Bauchgefühl und nutze bei diesen vermehrt DSLRs um im Zweifel ähnliche Back-Ups zu haben. Der worst Case wäre für mich nicht ein Kameraausfall, denn dann fotografiere ich mit einer anderen Kamera weiter, sondern ein Totalausfall der Karte mit unwiderruflich verloren gegangen Bildern von Situationen, die so nicht wieder möglich sind. Ja, ich könnte auch 2 bzw. 4 GB -Karten nutzen um das Risiko zu verteilen, doch das kann doch nicht die Lösung sein. Ähnlich muss es doch auch Kamerabesitzern gehen, die in den Urlaub fahren... Hier im Forum wird immer wieder lebhaft diskutiert über Bildqualität, Auflösung, Rauschverhalten, Sinn und Unsinn von Live-View/Video, Bildfeldwebel etc... Nur hilft das alles nichts, wenn einem dann wirklich die Karte abraucht wie in diesem Thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/forum-zur-leica-m9/285309-m9-kartenfehler.html Canon baut mittlerweile schon in der 5er-Serie einen 2. Kartenslot ein, die bis zur erscheinen der MKIII der 1er-Serie vorbehalten war. Ich hoffe wirklich, dass ein 2. Slot Thema bei bei einem Nachfolger der M 240 sein wird. Grüße Rob

I purchased my M9 somewhat late in the game. I don't remember if there were changes in the camera after it first was released. I know about the firmware updates. I'm asking because I'm wondering the likelihood of the M 240 having hardware changes early on rather than just software changes.
