  1. Hello Gentleman, Quick question. Would anyone know where this leak would be coming from ? Is it seals giving up in one spot or something else ? I am no expert on leaks. Any ideas / help would be appreciated. Thank you !
  2. Hey guys, new to this forum. I've had my Leica CL for about 6months, and she's my all around camera. Living in NYC nothing is better than having a small partner that fits in my messenger bag that leaves the weight back in the factory. Anyway, my question for you guys is about the light leaks I have experienced since i purchase the camera 6months ago. I discovered that my rolls would experience burns on 1-2 frames per roll. Always on the same spot // the bottom middle of the image. After some further digging and trial and error, I believe the culprit was myself. As I would go on photo walks with the lens cap off. And since the shutter blades never close completely when resting, I believe the light was leaking onto the curtain and bleeding onto the film.. This I may be completely wrong... Has anyone experienced such a thing? My Work: Jose Alvarado Jr. | New York City Photographer - New Work
  3. Hi all! Happy to be part of this group! I am really looking forward to the analog Leica rangefinder experience. I just shot my first roll of film this weekend and picked up my scans. However, I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw some artifacts that shouldn't have been there. I'm not sure what it is as I am unfamiliar with analog, so I thought it might be best to attach photos to describe what I'm seeing. I am curious to know if my copy of the M6 is defective, and what part is. First example, the bottom half of the photo is blacked out. What would be the cause for this? https://flic.kr/p/Z8c3YN Second Image, you can trace a faint blue line going from the center person's left calve all the way up past the dog's right eye: https://www.flickr.com/photos/101100257@N04/36814955114/sizes/l Third Image: Similar situation, a faint blue line going across the center (most obvious from his right arm): https://www.flickr.com/photos/101100257@N04/36814953464/sizes/l Fourth, is this light leaking from the top left corner? https://flic.kr/p/Y6dj47 I would greatly appreciate your insight. My gear: Leica M6 classic, Zeiss Biogon 35/2 Film: Fujifilm Fujicolor 200
  4. Hello all, First time here so thanks in advance for you help. I've scoured the internet trying to get to the bottom of this pesky problem but have yet to find a proper solution. In 5-10 exposures per roll, I get these white horizontal bands across the frame, always in the same place at the top, and sometimes at the bottom. It happens at different shutter speeds, apertures, with different lenses and with different developing labs. The light leaks occur on the negatives and on the scans. It extends between exposures on the negatives and isn't restricted to each rectangle. Weirdly, the majority happen indoors with 1/30 @ f/2.5 but they also happen in bright light outdoors. I had Youxin Ye do a CLA one year ago and he replaced "the light seal from the shell to the back door area" and "added a light strip at the back door edge". Unfortunately the light leak issue wasn't solved. I've shined a flashlight through the curtain in a pitch black room and no light comes through so I wonder how it could be the curtain. Also, as far as I'm aware, it seems like the issue with holes in the curtain manifests as white spots on the negatives, not horizontal white bands. I'm including a couple pictures hoping someone could help me diagnose this particular problem. Thanks in advance for you help!
  5. Hi all, Just had my M6 CLA’d due to a light leak around the shutter curtains. They are demonstrating some curling and leave a light leak when a frame is left in the gate for too long. The tech replaces the baffles among other things but I can still see a bit of light at the edges when shining a bright light. He claims that is normal and his other Leicas also have this. Can anyone attest if that is true by checking your shutter curtain edges when shining a bright light inside? much obliged! Boe

  7. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a light leak issue I have with my m4p. I use my camera for street photography, so I walk around with the lens cap off. I also have the camera in a leather half case, which covers the back door. I seem to get a light leak on random frames, from the bottom right hand corner. I figure it can't be the door as the rear of the camera is covered and the sills look in order. Has anyone experienced similar faults or have any remedy suggestions prior to sending it off for a repair?
  8. Hello- I just got my M4-2 back from a repair service for this light leak/shutter issue - a band across the top. I got my first roll back, and 95% of the frames didn't have it - but the last few frames did. None of the frames with my 35mm Summicron had it, only the last few with a 50mm Canon 1.4 LTM with an adapter. Is there any chance this is a lens/adapter issue, or is the shutter still the culprit? Band happend when shot into the direct sun at 1000th, sun behind be at 100th; and also in muted indoor light around 250th. Cheers
  9. Hi, I'm a relatively new Leica user - I've just been using the Leica R3, and after getting my film back, it seems I need to re-seal my camera. Though, when I bought it, the seller told me that the light seals had already been replaced right before selling. My question is - does it look like this light leak is coming from the canister window - and if so, can I just tape it up? I've ordered foam seals but I've got a trip coming up and I don't think that they're going to arrive in time. Thanks, Kerr
  10. Hello fellow Leica lovers, I've recently noticed a light leak in my M2 that only seems to occur when the Elmar 35/3.5 is attached and shooting Fuji Superia 400. Not all the frames were affected, as can be seen in the examples, but about half the roll. However, previous rolls of different film (Tmax and HP5+) with the same lens were fine as were later ones (Tri-x and Ultramax) with different lenses (Summaron 35/2.8 and Summicron-C 40/2). Quite perplexed, I thought it was just that particular film and tried the same M2 + Elmar 35/3.5 combination with a different batch (although I can't be sure now as I write this) Superia 400 and found a few frames afflicted - not as many though, about 5 out of 26 frames this time. The leaks bleed between frames, so I was thinking it was the back door and/or the strap lugs, but then the unaffected rolls from earlier and later shoots blew up that theory. FYI, the leak pattern from this post is very similar, which is why I suspected the strap lugs. Any help would be appreciated! Regards, Dan
  11. Hello, I got back the photos I took with my M7 and Portra160 film. I am not sure if this a light leak o a developing issue. What do you think this might be? Thank you for your help.
  12. Just reorganized some old film and noticed this issue on this roll. At first I thought it's just flare but it leaks outside of the frame into the next picture. I also noticed that it's reaching above and below the frame and that its towards the end of the roll. Is it possible that this is a light leak through the film cassette? Someone suggested it might have been me changing the lens in daylight with light hitting the shutter curtain. I just can't explain how 1.5 frames are exposed with this leak but before and after nothing else is. the light leak also doesn't reach the sprocket holes, meaning it wasn't me opening the camera. (I know what those light leaks look like ;-) Thanks in advance!
  13. Hej, my beloved M4-P seems to suffer from a light leak. See attached snapshots. It appears on one or two exposures per film. All Images are taken with M4-P, Summicron 35mm Asph., original hood and B+W high quality ND Filter. I experienced it only with the Cron so far, though it seems to be body problem. My questions are: Common issue? Where is the light leak? Back door? Shutter? How/Where to repair (Berlin)? Complicated? Expensive? Thank you very much in advance!! Peter
