When I fit the lens hood and tighten fully, it sits at a 20 degree angle from square. Can this be correct? It irrationally irritates me! For me, this angled rotation also raises the question of why the hood is such an odd shape anyway! Is flare a problem only in four 'corners' of the lens? Would a fully round hood cause vignetting? If so, then I guess the funny angle is quite deliberate ... but I remain to be convinced! Am I the only angled hoodie on this forum, or is this a common (or compulsory) Q condition?

As I new (and proud) owner of an X Vario (shame on XVarior and Guytou for getting me the itch ), I am currently experimenting with color rendition, high ISO, controls, ... and I stumbled on this this morning. Just look at the bottom right and it looks like an incidental source of light (there were none) or specular reflection. Sun (hidden by a thin layer of clouds) was above my left shoulder at 90° with respect to the shooting direction. 1/2000 s, f/3.5, ISO 100 at 28 mm The lens hood is the JJC LH-XV, as recommended by Waloszek in his excellent review. So, could this be lens flare or flare induced by the lens hood ? Anyone having already experimented this ? (Of course, I didn't immediately notice that and therefor didn't try without the hood)

I just bought a 35mm Summicron pre-asph 7-element (aka Bokeh king), but I prefer a round hood. Some sellers claims the 12504 hood compatible with this lens and some claims not, I'm so confused.

I have a 35mm summicron v4 and a 12504 clip-on round lens hood, they work pretty well together, but the hood cannot be fixed in a position, it sometimes rotates, it's not a big deal but this will potentially scratch the barrel which will affect the resale value a lot. The original square doesn't have this problem it can be fixed tightly, but I really like the look of 12504. Is there any way to stop it from rotating? Thanks!!!

Hi, I've got the cron 35mm f/2 ASPH, the new version. I got the square black lens hood that came along with it in the box. However, I would love to get a silver one instead just like the Summilux got. I have no idea if it exists or not since I haven't found a place to buy one, but I've seen photos of the lens with a silver square lens hood. Are they real or just mockup photos? Also on Leicas own site: IF it exists, where can I order it?

Did Leica ever make a case for the FISON and in particular one that would attach to the camera strap as my Leica case only has the front of the case that would take a collapsable Elmar so would be handy to have a case on the strap, thanks.

Hey everyone. I recently got my hands on a summicron 50mm v4 that comes with a 12585 hood. Fantastic lens by the way. But I’m having trouble to use a 39mm thread filter together with the hood. When the filter is threaded on the lens, the hood simply cannot go all the way in, because the filter is blocking the thin edge in the middle of the lens hood, which is narrower than the size of the filter. Does anyone have experience using the 12585 hood with filters? Which ones will work with it? I’m using filters for protection of the glass. thanks! Frank

Hey I just purchased a 28mm Elmarit for my M8 but it did not come with a hood. I know the filter size is bigger on this one (49mm) so I am having a bit of a problem locating a rect. hood. Does anyone have a good location to get such a item? It is this one: 11804 - 2.8/28mm Elmarit-M - 1979-1992 M49x0.75 12536 <-- This is the Product ID of the hood. - 14001 E49 Also, if someone has experience with this lens, is the hood necessary? - I purchased a 49mm leica cap on ebay so that the front element is protected (as it looks like the original lens has a rect. cap on the lens shade.

Afternoon all Bit of a stupid question this: I have an old (1986 I think) Summicron 50 - one of the Canadian ones - on my M9. As it's stark bollock naked apart from its lens cap I wanted to get a lens hood for it - both for reasons of protection and preventing glare and flare - anyone got any suggestions as to what's a good one to get (without breaking the bank too much!). And what's the best type? Collapsible? Petal? Conical? Etc? Thanks in advance K My Flickr page: Flickr: The_Kevster's Photostream Please be gentle, I'm very new to RF photography!

I have the 28mm f2 Summicron. It is a very nice lens to use on an M7 or M8, but the big boxy lens hood or lens shade is sort of klunky and obscures the lower right corner of the viewfinder to an unpleasant extent. So I am going to begin using it without the hood, but with a UV filer to provide physical protection. My question is: How much will the performance of the lens be affected by not having the hood in place? I know the theories about flare, but in practice how much of a problem do the members think there will be in end results?

I have an older type of macro elmarit r 60mm, product no 11205 according to Jonathan Eastland's book, and apparently there is a lens hood for it, product no 12514, which also holds the series 8 fliters that the lens takes. I've never come across one of these hoods, maybe because few were ever sold, as the front elent of the lens is already so deeply recessed that the hood is not needed -- unless you use a filter on the lens. Has anyone seen one of these hoods? Rgds John
