  1. Hi ! I need your help and knowledge I own a leicaflex SL and the Sl 2 black. The leicaflex SL that I own is in really neat condition but the weak part of those model is the red plastic lens lock button. And this piece snapped in two this week. (see pictures attached). The screw and the sping attached to the red button are intact. (see pictures) I am looking for a replacement' s piece, I do know it's a common thing on those model to have this weak part to snap. I read somewhere that a METAL LENS LOCK BUTTON has been created and distributed for the Leica SL as a replacement for this common issue. But i can't seem to easily find it online (US or EUROPE market - I'm From France). Do you guys know where I can find a spare leicaflex lens lock button ? Is there a 3D printed 's piece maybe ? If someone is recreating leica pieces through 3d model to share Thanks a million ! Regards B.
  2. So FINALLY i got a viable Leicaflex SL. After a year of trying and a lot of misery (self-imposed and from girlfriend), I finally got a keeper. Anyway, I bought an L-Flex SL from a "flybynight" place and got shafted from it, to the point that I wrote it off. During that time, my girlfriend bought me a case for it, and funded a Mk1 50-cron for the camera. About July, I reignited my desire to find a L-Flex SL that I could use, and tried KEH, since they were great with Nikon stuff for me. The first one I bought was a shell with a dead shutter, dead meter, dead everything. Returned it for a second one, this one had the same as the first, and in addition a severely cracked prism. Returned again, and they told me to "just keep this one". It was an SL, but the flowerpetals on the takeup reel had been stripped (otherwise it works fine, I may have DAG restore it at some point and plop a 2-cam 35 on it, since DAG did amazingly well on my 50-cron). My girlfriend, who usually supports my dream of owning a Leica, was like "it won't happen unless you pay at LEAST $500 for one". But me being stubborn, I couldn't stop myself from trying. Anyway, a few days ago I was reading about Leicaflexes and I stumbled into Tamarkin Camera. I had heard a mix of "wonderful" and "horrific" from posters on forums throughout, but since they were only a 2 hr drive away, I figured why not. I spoke to Dan (Stan's son) and he was an absolute class act. I put down $100 on the L-Flex SL (It was $275) and told him I'd have the balance by Feb 6, 2012. I had it ready by Jan 28, 2012 and I paid the balance. It shipped Monday, and arrived at my house yesterday Evening. I tested all the shutter speeds I could visually (my eyes are good to 1/125 for visual check), the meter against my reference meter (the one on my Nikon F3HP) and that too checked out meter to meter. So now I want to put some Ektar 100 in it and see what develops . So consider this a happy ending and a satisfied customer. He even threw in a spare wein battery, and wrote on the invoice "ENJOY!" - Dan. Classy place, and from it... a very classy camera. Jason
Vielen Dank!
  4. Hi I have wanted a Leica SL, so I picked up one from KEH, EX quality for $172. I found it was missing one of the bottom plate screws and the viewfinder is pretty yellow and you can see the glue or whatever separating around the edges. The shutter is the weakest of the 3; sounds like my M6 before I sent it in for an SLA to Sherry; at the 1-second setting it's not as forthright as the others (you can hear weak ticking after the shutter fires, and in general it sounds weaker than the other two). So I called KEH and of course I can send it back no problem (I have the return fedex label -- how awesome is KEH), but I haven't yet. Cosmetically, though, it is pretty much unscathed and looks to be cosmetically the best of the 3 by far. Living in NYC, I stopped by Adorama and picked up another SL for $139. It's definitely used, has one name "Ralph Altman" professionally engraved and another "Lee 965 5832" engraved by a drunken dremel-wielder on the bottom plate. This camera is definitely seen a lot of use; slight dent in the metal of the prism that you can feel but not quite see, some brassing, especially around the eyelets for the strap, but nice bright viewfinder (made me go "so THIS is what Doug Herr was talking about"), but it's got a little bit of the slightly lighter cast glue separation or what have you along the very very top, but otherwise is nice. Compared to the 1st SL above, the viewfinder is very nice. Maybe it's this Ralph Altman; who knows: Ralph Altman, 84 - Chicago Tribune Anyhow, seeing that the Ralph Altman was engraved, I saw KEH had one more SL (all 3 of these are "SL version 2 with 3 position lever") of BGN grade for $89 so I bought it too. This one has visible usage dents along the prism, but it's not engraved and seems to work fine. The viewfinder is sliiightly more dusty (and my wife says it's slightly more "green", I can't tell), but NO separation at all that we can see, and it's quite bright like The Altman. The shutter sounds nice and strong, maybe a tad less so than the Altman. So, obviously I have to decide which one(s) to keep. Is it better to keep the one with the nice body that will need to be sent in for an SLA pretty much right away, and even then maybe the viewfinder will likely need to be resilvered, so all in all I might as well buy another R8 at that price? (R8 is my favorite aperture-priority SLR, that's for sure). I guess I could get the battery compartment fixed for 1.5v cells while I'm at it. The thing is though, I don't have the money for that right now, and if I did, maybe I would put it towards more R glass or something instead. But if someone has a really compelling argument I suppose I could be convinced. Or, do I return the expensive yellow vf one, return the Adorama one like tomorrow (they only give you 7 days, not very long at all, bought it on the 13th), and keep the $89 one? Or do I return the yellow vf one and keep both cheaper ones since it's about $200 all-in for both of them and then I have parts if one breaks or I can do stuff like put color in one and black and white in the other? Then of course I have the First World Problem of deciding which one to use ... Walking around with the late Mr Altman's SL, I can see why everybody likes these things. it's literally amazing how well built they are, the viewfinder is great in all light, it's quick (because of no split prism), and it makes you want to wind it because it's so smooth. Any help appreciated, you guys are great. If pictures would help I could post some. (FWIW, my wife says to take back the "haunted" one, lol)
  5. Hi all, I hope I am in the right place for some advice off of the experts. I have been fortunate to have been left with a selection of old cameras from my late uncle who recently passed away, they are all in pristine condition and I would like to get them valued but as you can appreciate I do not want to be given incorrect information from someone who is trying to get on over on me. Therefore would anyone be able to give me an idea of what each item is worth? Thank you in advance Dennis http://s1296.beta.photobucket.com/user/denniskenney/library/
