Leitz put 'feathered' arrows on the advance and re-wind knobs of Leica 1s for a limited period from late 1926. The majority had three 'feathers' or six if you count each line separately. A limited number had only two (or four) 'feathers' on the advance knob arrow only for some unknown reason. Lars Netopil says that this is a rare variant, and I have only come across three: serial #s 3293, 3520, 3564. Despite these being in the 3000 range Mr Netopil has not come to any conclusion about the serial numbers from the few he has also seen in the past. Angela von Einem tells me that the 'triple feather' arrows were embossed (geprägt) but says the 'double feather' on camera #3520 is engraved. It is indeed much clearer than the usual rather blurred arrows on other cameras. I wondered if any members have 'double arrow' Leica 1s in their collections, or have come across any. Serial numbers would be very helpful. I have attached a photograph of #3520.

Strange Leica or a rebuilt Leica? If i have understand correctly, it was not unusual that already from the 1930s it was possible to modify / upgrade Leica cameras as the Leica developed and implemented new features in new models. I bought a few weeks ago one, as I understand, updated Leica 1. The serial number tells me that it is a Leica 1 from 1930. The built in range finder tells me that it is upgraded to a Leica ii and the flash sync connection on the back can not have been added until after the Second World War so that must have been another update. The lens have no serial numbers and it may say that it from the very beginning was the same lens that was mounted to the camera? Who can explain? What do you think? /Tommy

Hallo liebe Leica Foristen, ich habe mich gerade aus folgendem Grund hier im Forum angemeldet. Bei einer Entrümpelungsaktion bin ich durch Zufall an eine alte Leica I (Leitz Elmar 1:3,5 F=50mm) Bj 1930 gekommen. Der Body sieht aus meiner Sicht noch ganz OK aus, allerdings ist das Objektiv etwas trüb, der Ring vorne ist ein wenig verbogen und man kann die Blende, vermutlich deswegen, nicht mehr einstellen. Ich hatte mir deswegen überlegt die Kamera mal nach Solms zu schicken um zu erfragen was eine Reparatur bzw. Instandsetzung kosten würde. Hier meine Frage: Ich spiele schon seit längerer Zeit mit dem Gedanken mal wieder analog zu fotografieren (das letzte mal habe ich das vor zwanzig Jahren in der Foto AG in der Schule gemacht ), allerdings bin ich mir nicht sicher, ob eine solche Kamera dafür geeignet ist (gesetzt den Fall die Kamera ließe sich zu vertretbaren Kosten wieder instand setzen), sprich: Wie ist die Bildqualität mit einer solch alten Kamera? Lassen sich damit gute Ergebnisse erzielen oder ist das meiste Schrott (natürlich abzüglich der "Ausprobierphase")? Gibts dafür überhaupt noch Filme? ... Ich möchte einfach ein Gefühl dafür bekommen ob es sich lohnt die Kamera wieder in Betrieb zu nehmen oder ob es besser wäre das Ding in die Vitrine zu stellen oder bei ebay zu verkloppen?! Gibts da Erfahrungen oder Meinungen? Freue mich über Antworten und Kommentare jeder Art! Liebe Grüße
