Two days ago we had a nice summer day and so was its evening. The vantage point was deep in the forest opposite the sight. We found a fine bench and picnic facilites even. So we enjoyd a few hours from golden light until dusk. Porta-Westfalica, view on the monument of Kaiser-Wilhelm and the river Weser. Canon 5D MKII with Elmarit R 28 mm

Coming of spring is keeping us in suspense this year. But due to cold temperatures we have clear air and chsnging light provides interesting situations. Thus we went to a nice location from which one has a good view. It was saturday before Easter and if you look closely a few bonfires and namely their smoke can be seen. After this shot sun went don wuickly and the whole area was pestered with biting smoke. Canon 5D MKII with R Elmarit 28 mm - pano stitched out of 3 pictures

Two more from Saturday's stroll. 1) Windswept beech hanger. 2) heading for Hackpen Hill. M204, 50mm Summilux-M ASPH. I had thought to use my 28mm Elmarit-M ASPH but left it in the bag, leaving the 50mm on the camera - such is the scale of the landscape.

This place in remote Australia is often called the Devil's Marbles. But local Aboriginal people call it Karlu Karlu and connect it with the journey of the ancestral Rainbow Serpent which left its eggs scattered here as huge boulders. M9-P and 50mm Summilux.Of course the good thing about photographing rocks is that they don't move!

We are back from our California trip to the West Coast. We started in San Francisco and went by car along the famous Pacific Highway No 1 where our first location was a stopover in Half Moon Bay. There we began to scan what will be waiting for us and prepared ourselves for landscapes, seascapes, vegetation, rocks, cliffs, seal, birds and: the rhythm of the mist. This phenomenon is dominating all the vegeation and life there, including our own feelings and surprises when it lifted and sank in again, veiled sunshine, unveiled it and so on. Last weekend I attended a workshop in Berlin: Urban Landscape, a workshop exploring man-altered landscape photography. As a subject, the choice was Public Park at "Gleisdreieck" (a formerly triangular junction of two metro lines and still a famous metro stop in Berlin). Taught by sculptor, photographer and art educator Martin Pfahler, the workshop was organized by PhotoWerkBerlin. Instructions and photographic practice were inspiring, and refreshingly non equipment oriented. I posted an account of my own results on my recently launched blog: Various Velocities: “Am Gleisdreieck” Public Park Berlin | Norbert Steinkamp. These and all other photos of the series were taken with an M240 & Summilux 50mm ASPH (sorry I'm allowing myself a bit of equipment orientation in the Leica forum): Public Park "Am Gleisdreieck" Berlin © Norbert Steinkamp 2013 Public Park "Am Gleisdreieck" Berlin © Norbert Steinkamp 2013 Public Park "Am Gleisdreieck" Berlin © Norbert Steinkamp 2013 Best regards, Norbert

This week has been an inspiring (but tiring) week. I attended a course entitled 'Spirit of Place' at the Marlborough College Summer School. The main thrust of the course was to capture the atmosphere and history of the Marlborough Downs, its landscape, heritage and buildings. The weather was not terribly kind to us but it did at least offer some interesting cloudscapes. On Wed afternoon I trudged up to the top of Knap Hill, overlooking the Vale of Pewsey. Sans tripod, I wondered at the possibility of capturing a blur-free image due to the strong, gusting wind. Anyway, here is one result, looking east along Tan Hill Way. M9, Summaron 35mm f2.8.

In the range of my hometown you can find a few small protected areas where migrater waterbirds find food and shelter for the breading season. It is early and one cannot expect many birds now. The Q always goes with me for landscaping. The sun came out for a moment to cast a nice warm light on the scenery. Just enough time to shot 2 panoramas.
