I have recently acquired one of those Canmany V4 made in god knows where, the one with the new front ring design (associated with Solms copies) but says made in Canada in the barrel (as opposed to Made in Canada engraved on the front ring). Some say it's the result of Leitz making these lense while moving factories and assets around in 86/87, and parts were used wherever and whenever they were available. I have heard people saying the 12524 plastic hood, when used incorrectly, can damage the Canadian copies with plastic front ring. Mine doesn't look plastic but I am not sure if anything else inside could be. While I like the look, I fear a little the possibility of damaging my lens with these hoods, not to say a well worn copy of these hood cost roughly 150-250 USD these days. May as well buy a 12526, if Leica still sell them. 12585 is kind of big for a lens this small but price-wise it seems more sensible. Has anyone got a picture of V4 with a 12585, on their M? I understand Tahusa is selling a metal copy of 12524/12526 on their shop, but I have not seen anyone's opinion on the quality or experience of using those. Thanks in advance ๐
