  1. Since three weeks I travel around with the Leica Q3 and I love it a lot….. But I do have a question, maybe someone can explain or knows a solution? When I convert my jpg (largest size) to a B&W profile within Lightroom, I see strange lines/blocks in the sky. In this example you can see it on the right upper corner (lines in the white clouds) On another photo I can see little blocks.. On this site I have to upload a smaller size jpg, but I can see it in the large converted version too. I do my editing on my Ipad, so when, after my travels, I am at home, I ‘ll have a look on my computer too. Could it have to do with the screen capability of my Ipad? Or is there another reason? Hope to hear from your experiences! Thanks!
  2. I just firgure out that my Leica M10, the DNG files opened and exported to JPG by photoshop are always brighter and less contrast than the original JPG generated by M10 body.Is there something wrong? This is the jpg exported from dng. And this is original jpg by body
  3. I have been poking around a lot in the jpegs the M10 produces using Exiftool. I'm working on a project where I'm trying to get preview data out of the files as quickly as possible. Thus far I'm not impressed or at least confused by the data in the files. Just about any operation throws out an ICC profile length warning, apparently when the declared profile length doesn't match the actual length of the profile: Warning: Bad length ICC_Profile (length 3144) Also try extracting the preview images and thumbnail images: exiftool -a -b -W %d%f_%t%-c.%s -preview:all *.JPG Extracted preview images are unreadable by chrome, safari, and preview.app, but oddly Firefox reads and displays and image. These are a nice size at 1440x940 and 133kb, and it'd be great to use them since the Maestro processor has already done the work to resize them. The thumbnails are 160px wide and base64-encoded. They seem have black bars at the top and bottom. You can see them as iPhone iOS reads an SD card and otherwise on macOS. Extracting these works, but they have black bars along the top and bottom. Since I'm seeing this on the apple platforms and with ExifTool I think those bars may be part of the data. The DNG is another story. It appears to be healthier. From the DNG, a similar thumbnail image is present with the black bars. There are two preview images embedded in the DNG file. First is a ~1.6MB jpeg at 100/24MP size. Presumably this is the chimping image we actually see when we zoom in while using the back of the camera. The second is the 1440x940 small preview image from the jpeg, but this time it's intact and readable by usual programs. It seems like something is wrong with the JPG files the camera creates, like the EXIF data is improperly copied or something. This is frustrating, for $7000 this should be correct.
  4. Cori & I drove into town yesterday for an early dinner and to stroll around town. Ierapetra is a place full of character and one that absolutely matches my beat up old M9. Somehow the vibe of the town called for me to shoot on JPG instead of my usual DNGs. Here are a few photos. Have any of you ever been here?
  6. Hi, I'm experiencing a problem with shooting DNG+JPG fine in the M9. I have done so successfully previously but the last couple of shots I did, the camera didn't save 2 files - one DNG and the second JPG. Instead it saved 2 JPGs. Has anyone experienced this problem? any suggestions? I thought I would reset my settings but that doesn't mean it won't happen again - if at all it will help. Thanks -Danny
Vielen Dank ! Grüße Georg
  8. I bought a Leica V-LUX 40 a couple of months ago. I'm very happy of it, but I would ask if there is some way to reduce the artifacts on the final image at making stage of the image directly from the camera. Thanks
  9. I realy neet help, even if it is not only focused on Leica jpeg files As from this monday nobody can read my jpg files any more, after I have saved them with my Photoshop CS 5. 10. dear all, This is probably not new to you, but I've spent some time on the web and fora searching for related infos and couldn't find it. Decided to bug your guys here again. Thanks for your patience. A little background: I have used Nikon D300 and Nikon Capture NX for many years. Being the original manufacturer's software, Capture NX gives RAW shooters the full range of settings that match in-camera JPG settings. For example, one could start from the RAW, set the file to STANDARD rendering, and work on it. This is very crucial to my landscape works as Capture NX was the only software that could produce proper greens on D300 raw files. (Nikon kept the RAW juices to themselves, just like Canon. Lightroom was never able to recreate the D300 colors from the RAW files) I believe many M9 users find the in-camera B&W JPG very pleasing at times and would like to reproduce the "looks" in Lightroom from the DNG files. But I found that there is close to no informations about this on the internet. As an engineer, I understand that the JPG engine (chip) inside M9 is entirely Leica's and would remain exclusive until Leica is willing to share the recipe with Adobe. However, many must have tried to recreate the effect by creating some presets, no? I wonder if you guys have some recommendations on this? I am willing to pay for the presets as long as they are close enough to the M9 in-camera rendering of B&W. Thank you so much Jerry knopfler dans la rue 諾弗勒在街頭
