Hello there. I have been entertaining the idea of buying a half case for my Leica MP. I have mixed views about the half cases for these fine cameras. On one hand I want to protect this valuable piece of delicate machinery from harm as much as I can but on the other hand I don't want an extra layer of thickness while holding the camera which has already perfect dimensions. While I think of the Leicas and the cameras in general which have survived to this day I see a lot of them have some sort of leather case that protected them for all those years. But when I see the cameras of pros that have been brassed beautifully I admire them even more because of those marks. What are your thoughts on this subject? Does a Leica need a protection from harm? Should a black paint Leica brass over time? Will a Leica brass no matter what the intentions of its user? Does a half case make the camera thicker in a way that it affects its usability? Or do half cases make the camera easier to hold? If used with a half case, does black paint Leicas gather an uneven patina?

I have a Leica half case with the removable folding flap that covers and protects the screen. Obviously, the case protects the camera body from some dings and scratches--and possibly even affords a slight impact buffer if the camera falls and hits on the case. Also, aesthetically, the retro look of a case is pleasing to many. The Leica case and some other cases provide a comfortable hand grip. The case adds a slight amount of weight and height, plus, with the Leica case, the extra step of opening and closing the flap if it is not removed. Unlike some other brands, the Leica case has the inconvenience of having to remove it to get at the battery or memory card. Obviously, a half case affords no protection from rain. I still am on the fence about whether to use a half case. Maybe sometimes yes and sometimes not. I do have a relatively new M10 and would like to keep it looking new. But I also like the looks of the camera itself and reducing size and weight by every millimeter and gram possible. I think of that more and more if I find the camera strap uncomfortable with some of my heavier lenses. There have already been postings on the question of whether or not to use a half case, and most of these types of comments are mixed in with threads of discussion on the merits of various brands of cases. I am interested in this base question: do you use a half case, or not? The more people who don't use them, maybe the more comfortable I will be in not using one.

Gibt es jemanden unter den Mitlesenden, der seine -Flex in so eine ledrige halbe Kiste verbannt hat? Da Leica gerade meine M9 gegen hohes Lösegeld gefangen hält, bin ich wieder viel mit der Ur-SL unterwegs, - und ich weiß nicht, ob es daran liegt, dass sie der erste Fotoapparat war, den ich bewusst wahrgenommen habe, nachdem ich einmal in der Lage war, solche Sachen von Toaster und Kofferradio zu unterscheiden, aber was soll ich sagen, fühlt (und hört) sich richtig gut an. Zur Sache, ich habe überlegt, da sie jetzt wieder mehr tun muss, ob ein half case eine angemessene und schützende Arbeitskleidung für eine Leicaflex sein könnte. Aber die gibt es ja nun nicht mehr von der Stange, also eine Mail an Luigi von Leicatime, ob er sowas mal gemacht habe, und ungelogen eine halbe Stunde später die Antwort ja, zwar nicht vorrätig, aber in 12 Tagen zu machen. Ich habe danach erst auf seiner Homepage (wenn man das so nennen will) tatsächlich Bilder seiner half cases für die Leicaflex gesehen, aber irgendwie... Schwer zu sagen, eine M-Kamera sieht in seinem Lederfummel noch mehr vintage aus als ohnehin schon, aber die Leicaflex wirkte gleichsam wie auf jugendlich frisiert. Und dann hat sein half case die Eigenart, den Selbstauslösehebel zu verdecken; nicht dass ich ihn oft benutze, aber na ja... Luigi sagt, null problemo, mach ich case mit cut out: "I could gladly make a special case for you, with the (large) front slot for the ST at Eur 10 extra, but “AS-IS”, and… Not suggested ... would be quite less protective." Heißt wohl: Kaufen, kein Rückgaberecht, und hoffen, dass sie passt, gefällt, taugt... Meine Frage, um nicht ganz blind zu ordern: Hat hier jemand seine Leicaflex in halbes Leder gepackt, vielleicht zufällig auch von Leicatime, und kann sagen, wie das mit dieser Kamera harmoniert, optisch, haptisch etc.? Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has come across a Leica SL half case worth sharing. I got used to them since the M8, and kind of miss it now in the SL, although never before I used them in any of my SLRs. I have not found anything yet. I heard Arte Di Mano is developing one, and I would guess others are too. Thanks so much. m.

I am looking to protect my camera, including the LCD while out and about shooting. i'm thinking of an Angelo Pelle or Luigi. My question is for members who use cases : does the case add much thickness?, weight?, does it enhance usability? detract. thanks

Just got one of these last Friday. I'm having a difficult time figuring out the best way to cart it around with me. It's slightly too big to fit in my pocket, yet not quite substantial enough to warrant slinging around my neck with the included neck strap. I have the brown leather case on order, but I'm not sure if I would really use the thing. So, how do you choose to carry your D-Lux 4? Neck strap or half case? Wrist strap and a large coat pocket? Belt pouch? What works best for you? Thanks, Mike
