  1. This is a very old image of mine that I always come back to. I was walking the streets of Bielefeld and enjoying long exposure photography. I did not know what to expect. It felt like making music.
  2. Bielefeld, Sparrenburg, The low sun at this time of of January goes down at the right angle. for me it was an opportunity for the first attempts of what film and lens could do with the Leica R3 in terms of contrast and colour.
Man liest so einiges.
  4. When i need some silence and i do have time i sometimes go to the Bibliotheca augusta also known as the Herzog August Bibliothek... The library was founded by in 1572 and in the 17th century it was the largest library north of the alps (Germany, Wolfenbüttel). The library is one of the oldest in the world to have never suffered loss to its collection, a very special place. Notable librarians have included Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and Gotthold Ephraim Lessing.... SL with 28mm Lux 5 sec ISO 100 f16

  7. neolithic Goseck circle (-> link Wikipedia Engl), roundabout with an age of 7000 years one of the oldest central european solar observatories to view the date of solstice... all pics are taken with SL-2 , this is stitched in LR (16 pics with the 16-35). Another noelthic location in Germany is called Pömmelte (near by Magdeburg pics see this link). It seams that this region has a long time historical importance as the "Nebra Skydisc" (Himmelsscheibe von Nebra ) has been found there too. I went to the museum (Halle/Saale) where the original Skydisc is shown, see the last pic.

  10. Feeling some pressure i had to go for some photos early this morning..... Buzzer at 4:30, a cup of coffee (okay, double double espresso...), eating while driving and going to the Harz mountains. Arriving the parking area i was the only one there.... (hours later the road was blocked as there was no more free parking place when i returned). Armed with rucksack, tripod and headtorch i went up to the hills. And here are the results. Early morning 1

  12. Hi, I have since quite some time an excellent Leitz Summilux 35mm 1.4 pre-ASPH. It should be a classical Canadian Mandler lens. But, the engraving states that the lens was made in Germany! I've checked all available databases and they state it is a 1987 lens from Canada. The only 35mm Summilux 1.4 pre-ASPH made in Germany were the late titanium ones. Can somebody tell me what lens I do have and if this is a collectors item? Thank you for your help, Christian
  13. I rarely clean my M9 CCD, nothing more than using a rocket blower if needed. Recently I have discovered a quite obvious scratch on my photos at F16. So I checked my CCD pixel by pixel and saw a quite big scratch. I thought it was just a hair stuck on CCD so I brought my M9 to a local Leica dealer. They told me that it's a scratch on CCD coating. I had no idea how this happen and they had no clue either. I contacted Leica Germany and told them the issue, the response was they're short in CCD, and they're moving the manufacture to a new place, which means the process of sending my M9 from Taiwan to Germany and get it fixed, then returning to me will take more than 2 months...2 months...jees.... has anyone here had the same problem? I didn't even touch my CCD and it got scratched...out of no where...and it'll take more than 2 months to get it fixed.

  17. At the suggestion of dear forum member David (wda) I am showing this picture from the Spreewald, a region in southern Brandenburg / Germany known for its many small canals, shippable by punts, here again. We went there on a short vacation with some friends last weekend and where lucky, as we had a pretty sunny weather for November. The picture was done with the Leica X-Vario and postprocessed in Lightroom. I must admit that I didn't put my Vario to use that much in the last months, which is a shame, as it is such a capable little machine. Although it will probably forever stay the "little ugly sister" in the Leica universe, I am more than glad about my decision on bying this camera. What do you think?
