  2. What is the best way to store lens' to avoid fungus?i) In a sealed plastic box with silica gel?ii) In a cardboard box where the air can circulate?iii) In a daylight area? The area in question is not damp and does not suffer any extreme of temperature just a normal UK house environment.I am asking because a previous lens from another top quality lens brand ( 70-300 zoom bought from new) was left in my camera bag and fungus started to appear, it was never used in the rain and was stored at normal room temperature Thanks
  3. Do you give a thought to fungus when storing your camera/lens? For example do you leave the lens cap off, or avoid storing in a leather case?
  4. I've recently acquired a very cheap 35mm Summicron v4 M in very good shape. However, the front and back elements are filled with dust (or fungus). The edges don't have any obvious fungus or anything. The are only specs here and there, but mostly in the center of the elements. What do you guys think? Is it dust or fungus? Here are some pictures:
  5. Like in the picture. Is this fungus? The weird thing is, I first saw things like this in my 35mm summilux pre-a lens, after wiping everything clean and used for some amount of time, I then spot similar thing on this UV filter. Any help is appreciated!!
  6. Hello everyone, I just spotted some white particles on the far edge/periphery of one of the lens element of my summarit 75 2.5 . I bought this lens used two months ago and at the time I could not see anything. I cannot say 100% but I suspect those particles were not present. They are hard to perceived. I only spotted them while taking pictures of my first born this morning when I was about to fit the cap onto the lens and had a look at inside. The sun was very bright and I could perfectly see them, them were almost shining like crystals ?? Pictures are not affected at all and I am only worried for the case of a fungus. I do not care about dust, but this is the first time I see something like this, hence me asking for your help/advises. Because they are on the far periphery of the lens element they are hard to picture. For the pictures below I had to flash the front element with a led light and it creates some ghosts/artefacts. For instance you can see that this "line" of particles appears twice, mirroring itself onto the next lens element. They only appear on one side of the lens and I also pictured the other "clean" side as a reference. Pictures are not great but this is what I have for now. I Thank you for input and wish you a pleasant week, Best, Fabien
Was sagt ihr? Vielen Dank schon einmal!
  8. Hello, This is going to be my first purchase of a more serious photographic equipment:D; I would like to obtain a Leica M6 (classic, No 223XXXX) as well as a used Voigtländer f1.7 (comes with adapter for M mount) from a trader in a local store for a reasonable sounding price (1050 EUR & 480 EUR, respectively). I will get a 1 month return policy. Regardless of what the trader claims (good condition): What are the main indicator clues, in terms of working condition and re-sell value, when holding the m6 or the Voigtländer lense in my hands in the store ? This questions also applies for M6 bodies and lenses quality checks in general. Keywords lense: fungus: what does it look like? How can I detect it?. Where would it be ? damaged interiour: detectable by eye ?. Can you feel it ? focus: aperture rings ? Can one feel the state ? body: light sensor state. Any way to see it while in the store ? Serial number: any clues here ? original packaging box & contents awailability: (is this important to maintain re-sell value ? ... in my case it is not available) I would be very grateful if someone could refer me to an appropriate link or tell me from his experience, regarding key indicators for good or bad state of M6 bodies (classic) and lenses. Replies in German would be equally helpful. Thank you very much in advance.
  9. I have a non-collapsible 50mm Summicron M lens that I recently discovered had a case of the white haze. The haze seems to be in the shape of a ring corresponding to closing down the lens to f2.8, with the cloudiness filling to the edges. This lens already had a liberal amount of 'cleaning marks' on the front element, but I liked the way it rendered. It was a little soft, but in a way that was almost flattering when shooting people. I had checked this lens ~9 months ago and don't remember seeing anything. There also seems to be the beginnings of haze on other elements inside the lens. I haven't done any tests yet, and I really am not equipped to do that kind of stuff. So some questions: How fast can this happen? Why did the haze form the way that it did? Can it be stopped, once it's started? Can it be fixed? Would the haze likely not affect images if I stopped down 2.8 or more? Is there group therapy available for people who are watching a lens they love die? Any help is appreciated. @ f2 (below) @ f2.8 (below)
