Heinlein - - - Die Unterschiede zwischen dem geliebten Vietnam (das bei mir ein lang anhaltendes nostalgisches Delir auslöste) und dem geliebten Japan sind schwer in Worte zu fassen, sozioökonomische und geografische Verschiedenheiten sind offenkundig, doch weder die weißen Baumwollhandschuhe der würdevoll erzürnten japanischen Taxifahrer, die nichts verstehen und alles wissen und deren Durchschnittsalter weit über 120 Jahren liegt, noch die kurzen Röcke der Damen in Vietnam erklären ausreichend die unterschiedlichen Ebenen der Faszination. Vielleicht hilft ein musikalischer Vergleich. Das sinnliche, verwildert schöne Vietnam ist Jim Morrison, Japan hingegen . . . . . . ist auch Jim Morrison, Jim, der virtuos eine Bach – Sonate spielt. Japans riesige Städte sind sprichwörtlich aufgeräumt, viel schöner als auf google.maps, fast schon besinnlich und, bedenkt man die 40 Millionen hart arbeitenden Einwohner von Tokyo / Yokohama, von einer eigentümlichen, harmonischen Stille, so kann den Ankommenden im Hotelzimmer ein offenes Fenster mitten in Shibuya durchaus irritieren, denn die von der Straße kommenden Geräusche beschränkten sich auf ein kaum hörbares unbestimmtes Rauschen und so ist das Zentrum von Tokyo ein Ort, an dem es Autos ohne Hupen gibt und keine Schurken lauthals auf der Straße die großartigen Pläne ihres nächsten Verbrechens verkünden. Stellvertretend für meinen Eindruck von Japan, wenn es auch nur winzige zwei Wochen gewesen sind, ist obiges Zitat von Robert Heinlein, denn Japan schien mir in nahezu jedem Augenblick das genaue Gegenteil einer sick culture zu sein, wo auch immer meine Neugier mich hintrieb. Während in den großen Städten man auf freundliche und gelassene (ähnlich wie in New York) und vor allem auf fast schon beschämende Weise hilfsbereite Menschen trifft, eine Hilfsbereitschaft, die vielleicht selbst die der Israelis übertrifft, war das ländliche Japan, wenn auch hier ich dessen in seiner ganzen Schönheit eigentümliches Leuchten nur durch einen winzigen Ausschnitt betrachten konnte, von einer geradezu spirituellen Entspanntheit. Japan ist ein Kaufparadies, das Angebot ist überreich, von höchster, tatsächlich sprichwörtlicher japanischer Qualität, die Läden sind aber auch diffus verstreut. Nützlicherweise sollte man schon vorher wissen, was man wie und wo haben möchte und, noch wichtiger, auch Geschäfte, in denen es die schönsten Photobücher der Welt (natürlich auf japanisch) oder kaum Schuhe unter 1000€ gibt, liegen träge und schön oftmals ganz still hinter grauen Vorhängen, hinter Türen ohne jede Aufschrift oder schläfrig verborgen im Tiefpaterre einer unspektakulär farblosen Seitenstraße. Andererseits schienen uns Waren und einfache Dienstleistungen genau so oder nur unwesentlich teurer, dennoch ist Japan der falsche Ort, um heimlich die verbliebenen Münzen zusammenzukratzen, man sollte einfach das Geld ausgeben in der sicheren Gewissheit, das wir nur dieses eine Leben haben. Die Befürchtung, wir würden in den riesigen U Bahn - Stationen Tokyos uns staunend mit offenen Mündern und unglücklich geschwollen Füßen verirren, nie mehr in das gemütliche Hotel zurückkehren, die Aussicht auf ein sauberes Bett am Abend und ein Frühstücksei am Morgen durch entsetzliche Dummheit für immer ruiniert zu haben und überhaupt für immer aus den Reihen der Menschheit zu verschwinden, war lächerlich unbegründet, alle Wege waren in englisch ausgeschildert. Ich bin überzeugt, daß man dem immer hilfsbereiten Personal und allen übrigen, erstaunlich stressfreien Japanern vor, während und nach ihres 25Stunden – Tages schon bald höchst bedeutsame Orden für ihre vornehme Freundlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft überreichen wird. Unzumutbare Gerüche beim Betreten der Waggons oder Passagiere, die nicht aufhören wollen, laut und überdeutlich ein smartphone zu benutzen und die darüberhinaus ein Repertoire der wohlklingensten Stimmen dem gesamte Zugabteil zu gönnen in der Lage sind (wir denken an verhinderte Opernsänger, Stimmenimitatoren oder Frauen, die niemals atmen müssen, während sie sprechen), ja, all diese Personen sind entweder bereits vor Reiseantritt nach Berlin teleportiert worden, oder es hat sie einfach niemals in Japan gegeben, der öffentliche Nahverkehr in Japan ist das pure Vergnügen. Tipps und Tricks: Alles erforderliche elektronische Zubehör, z. B. 100 Volt – Adapter, Batterien, SD – Karten usw., usf., sollte besser vorher vollständig vorhanden sein, zwar schien das Ausmaß der Restaurants, der Kosmetik - und Kleidergeschäfte unerschöpflich, Elektronikgeschäfte hingegen waren kurioserweise ein rara avis in terris. Der Erwerb des Japan Rail – pass ist tatsächlich die conditio sine qua non jeder touristischen Japanreise, bequem und unverzichtbar (https://www.der-japan-rail-pass.de/jr-pass). Obligat ist das Studium des äußerst vielfältigen und komplexen Systems der verschiedenen Zug – und Bahnlinien, z. B. in google.maps, eine Reiseplanung erst vor Ort kostet wertvolle Zeit. Viele Reiseführer könnte man auf 1/3 ihres tiefsinnigen Inhalts kürzen, ließe man endlich einmal diese doofen Restaurant - Empfehlungen weg. Am löblichsten und praktischsten: Lonely Planet (https://www.lonelyplanet.com/japan/tokyo). Für die Metro sollte man Zeitkarten (https://www.tokyometro.jp/en/ticket/travel/index.html) oder smartcards benutzen (https://www.der-japan-rail-pass.de/services/pasmocard), zufällig verlorene Karten werden manchmal über längere Distanzen hinterhergetragen und mit einem unbezahlbaren Lächeln überreicht. Anbei ein Schnappschuss der beiden schönsten Deutschen von Tokyo, die Begegnung mit Andreas war einer der entspannendsten Momente meines Urlaubs (das wage ich genau hier zu schreiben, denn meine Frau ist nicht im LUF angemeldet), und wenn es jemanden gibt, der nach Japan passt, dann so ein feiner Mensch wie er. Hello there! I have a slight but not to severe problem. I've noticed that my Leica M7 is not able to read the DX code of these two specific films: Fujifilm Superia X-Tra 400 and Fujifilm Fujicolor C200. For these two films I get the ISO value of 5000 and 3200 which are obviously wrong. For example, Fujifilm Pro 400H is working perfectly fine, the ISO detection works without problems. Further I tried several other films like Kodak Ektar 100, Kodak Portra 160 and 400, Ilford FP4+ 125 and so on... and the dx detection worked perfectly fine on every single one of these films. I compared the working ones with the "malfunctioning" films and the only difference I noticed is that the black paint in the dx code is a kind of green, it's not a perfect black, more like a darkish green, definitely not a true black. Could this maybe be the reason? The thing is, I've sent my camera to Leitz for a grand- overhaul just 3 weeks back. They changed and renewed a lot of parts including thr DX- reader so the camera is like brand new. Unluckily I've no clue if it had the same problem before it went to Leitz because I've not shot one of these films before. It would be a great help if somebody has an answer or maybe a similar problem! Regards Alex

Hello I'm tackling the following issue since ages . I would like to use my 82 Apo Televid as a lens , for various purpose : nature , and possibly astrophotography. A) i'm chasing the leica 42306 adapter (no longer in production, but available in some places) I have a question with this adapter , it's offers a T-mount interface in the back (camera side) but i've seen a female thread. I'm puzzled because I would have been expecting a Male thread, because all the T-mount camera adapter I have seen have F thread in the front. Anybody having experience of such adapter would be welcome. B) even more difficult question: my ultimate idea is to use the Televid as a "deluxe" guiding scope in astrophotography: for that purpose, I would like to use its native focal length of 440mm, that is to say bypass the 42306 that works as a focal multiplier . I have seen that when one removes the eyepiece of the Televid, there is a Male thread (in parallel with the Leica "bayonet" mount (translation from French). This thread looks like 42x1mm or 42x075mm . I just wander if it would be possible to adapt an eyepiece holderr to this thread, to use standard eyepieces or a camera. Any help, comment, advice, would be highly appreciated

I recently tried to buy some Fujichrome Provia 100F film, bit got the response that the supplier is awaiting stock from Fuji. Today (2020-08-05)* the supplier stated: "Fuji UK did reply this morning explaining that there is no Provia in the UK of any size for the foreseeable future and cannot provide any dates as to when it may be available." Does anyone know why? Nothing for the foreseeable future seems a bit worrying. (2022-08-05 as corrected by a.noctilux below, sorry)

Interessiert sich hier noch jemand für Fuji-Velvia 100 ? Dies (eBay-Artikelnummer: 380484802739 ) scheint mir ein günstiges Angebot zu sein, und ich habe 2 x 20 Filme dort gekauft. Die ersten 20 sind schon aus Kalifornien angekommen für total 128,71€, also 6,44€/Film, mit dem grünen Aufkleber "von zollamtlicher Behandlung befreit..". Bin gespannt, ob die zweite Lieferung auch "befreit" ist, aber selbst mit MwSt sind es nur 7,66€/Film. Hier dagegen kostet ein Velvia um 11,-€, warum eigentlich? Auch in England sind die Velvias heftig teuer. Gruß, Philipp

I usually shoot a D800 or when street shooting, a Leica X2. I recently purchased a Fujifilm XE-1 for hiking and backpacking. The Fuji lenses have a good reputation. But obviously Leica are considered better. Does anyone have any experience with the Fuji and Leica on a Fuji X body? Slight improvement? Improves a couple things? Like night and day? I am trying to judge the value of buying a lens that is three times the cost of the body. JD
