  1. Seeking advice on whether this is the end of the road for my S 006 - hope not. At the end of a portrait shoot it stopped focusing. No sound from the AF indicated another motor failure. Sent it off to Leica and paid EUR500 to have the motor replaced. Turns out focus is still off. Could the mirror or sensor be out of alignment? I have a clear and focused image in the OVF, but the resulting images are out of focus. In the images below I focused manually on the queen, but the image shows focus somewhere else. Appreciate any thoughts on whether there is a remedy for this as I really like the S 006 look (and upgrades are too costly...).
  2. Hi everyone, I'm new here and hope someone can help me. I bought a leica R 50mm summicron made in Canada 2780309. The glass is almost perfect like the body. Focus and aperture are also in good shape. The problem I got is related with a focus issue. I can focus right but the scale doesn't match. To focus far away (almost infinity) the focus scale is between 8 and 10 feet. Not match between be in focus to infinity and the scale reading. Is like the breath's focus is shorter. I'm shooting with m4/3 mount. How can that be? Best regards. Francisco
  3. I have been troubled by my 35cron ASPH and Monochrom. I have discussed about the issue in another thread, but here is a related question I wonder about. Even with very fast lenses, if you - push the focus ring to the very end and focus at infinity - the subject is very far away, eg 1 km shouldn't the subject be at least reasonably focused and sharp, even though the aperture used is f2 or even f0.95, and it is the maximum aperture? Attached is a comparison, 1:1 crop, left is f2 and right is f4. Those structures are at least 1 km away. Note that (mentioned in another thread) in close focusing tests I found this 35cron frontfocuses at least by 1.5cm. I have tried to look for some answer around, reading about hyperfocal distance, infinity, and used some depth of field calculator. From one calculator, with 35mm at f2 and subject distance 1km, DoP near limit should be 20m, far limit infinity, total infinite, hyperfocal distance 20.5m, circle of confusion 0.03mm. I have yet to try to focus my N095 at infinity at f0.95. But based on all the information I have read, I would think this 35cron of mine still has issue, and infinity should really be infinity, which does not need smaller aperture to pull out more focus/sharpness. Or then can a mis-alignment with the rangefinder body affect the inifnity focusing and sharpness in this case? Or can overexposure also affect the result anyhow?
  4. Hello, I just bought a used Leica M6 in pristine condition. With it, I have Summicron-M 50mm and the Elmar 135mm F4. The Cron 50 works perfectly, but I can't get the rangefinder focus to work for the Elmar. I know the focus area is pretty tight with a 0.72x viewfinder, but the focus images don't budge when turning the focus dial. I'm probably overlooking something simple, but please let me know if you have any thoughts. Thanks so much.
  5. I believe I have found a serious flaw and defect in my Leica X1 that I bought new four months ago. Every image taken of a distance scene, like a vista, has soft focus regardless of ISO, shutter speed or aperture. It's also that way regardless of auto-focus or manual set to infinity. Soft images. Additionally, every image is approximately one stop over exposed. I shoot everything in DNG. Ever since getting my Leica X1, I have found that images require extensive work in Adobe Lightroom. Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences? This Leica X1 is too much aggravation for a Leica regardless of price.
  6. I placed my M9 + Summicron 90mm ASPH APO on a tripod and took pictures of a shaving foam can (at F2 & F4) at different distances (from 1m to 5m in 1m increments). I found that at 1m, the focus was spot-on and very sharp. From 2m onwards, I had to adjust the focal distance a little forward (i.e. instead of 2m, adjust to just less than 2m so the two focus rings don't quite join together) to get the sharpest picture. Is this known as "back focus" problem and should I adjust the way I focus objects to get a sharp picture or should I send the 90mm lens in to Leica agent to adjust. I have no problems focusing sharply with my 50mm Summilux Any advice?
