  1. We already have a very extensive 'Mandler Magic' topic, but as much I am keen on Mandler's signature look and his contribution to the "Leica glow", there is another very distinguished gentleman in the 'House of Leica' that as a leader of Leica's optical design team since 2002 gave us a bunch of new high performance M-Lenses and pushed the terms FLE, ASPH and APO towards modern Leica perfection. He was the guy that had the balls to say Dr. Mandler's 75mm Summilux 1.4 was his *least* favorite design and went on to "Make Summilux great again" - all the way down to 21mm. Show us some of the "clinical look" of the Peter Karbe magic and do tell what lens he designed is your favorite...
  2. So much written about the floating element wandering out of alignment and some other focus issues of this lens by many frustrated users goung through two, three, four copies. All the gathered information seems to indicate that these problems were present for samples made somewhere until 2018, so my question is, does the only SILVER special edition 11701 (batch of 300) from February 2020 exhibit any of the much debated woes regarding its FLE or did Leica tighten the tolerance? Proud owners, also paste your pictures of this very rare gem.
  3. As shown in the picture, I shot this using my new 35mm 1.4 FLE lens at widest aperture and I’m shooting with the lens hood on. Does anyone happen to know what caused the circular light rings around all light bulbs? Is it due to lens defects for this particular lens or it’s a general thing for FLE lenses? Any help is greatly appreciated!

  5. I recently bought a used "mint" Summilux 35 ASPH FLE and upon receiving it I discovered the inside of the lens to be extremely dusty. Needless to say, I returned it immediately. I do wonder how this could be possible though - the lens was sold to the previous owner in 2016/10 so it's been used for about a year. I just can't believe a one-year-old lens can have this much dust in it. Is there some type of design flaw with the FLE version that makes it prone to dust? I'm thinking about getting a new one so I don't want the lens to be like this after a year...

  7. I would like to purchase some filters for the M10 + Summilux 35 FLE, and I am not sure which are the best in terms of ease of use (screw on with hood, stacking, vignetting). I am about to order these: UV: http://www.leicashop.com/brandnew_de/filter/leica-filter/leica-filter-uva-ii-46mm-schwarz-skul13033.html ND: http://www.leicashop.com/brandnew_de/filter/leica-nd-filter/leica-filter-nd-16x-46mm-schwarz-skul13055.html Polarizer: http://www.leicashop.com/brandnew_de/filter/b-w-pol-filter/b-w-circular-polfilter-ksm-e46mm-mrc-f-pro-skubw82658.html
  8. This might have already been covered somewhere.....but here it is: Since getting the Summilux 35 ASPH FLE (11663), I have been troubled by the inconvenience of switching between shooting with and without the lens hood. In fact I like the lens without the hood, which is shorter. But in very sunny days I really also want to have the lens hood attached. I'm not one of those gutty ppl who can do without a protective filter. hence the problem: Whenever I remove the lens hood, I feel I should attach the thread protector, which can only be done by removing the filter first, as the thread protector has a lip that prevents it from being screwed into place if the filter is attached already. The other day I chanced upon a strange solution, as I looked at my fuji x100 and wondered if its lens hood adapter will actually fit the 11663's exposed outer thread. Well, it does fit. so I have been using it since, as it can be screwed into place with the filter attached to the lens. Sometimes I just use the x100's hood instead, which can be attached and removed easily. You can also flip it and attach it the other way around, which to me looks a bit better: Granted it doesn't look as nice as the Leica thread protector that comes with the lens, but it is indeed more convenient. Oh and...slightly increased finder blockage with the x100's hood, but the difference seems quite negligible.
  9. I've read one long thread and a few mentions of this phenomenon here on this forum. I'm curious of todays status regarding the rattle issue with this lens. I recently bought a mint in box 35 Lux FLE second hand, the lens is perfect in every way except that it sounds like a rhythm instrument. Mine is a 416xxxx meaning its 2012 produced. It has no back/front focus, It's super sharp wide open at f/1.4 and the focus ring is smooth and nice. The aperture ring is perhaps a little loose, but not bothersome, and about the same as my 50 lux. The sound is only apparent when the lens is moved up and down, not side to side (front element facing upwards) and is surprisingly loud, so loud that if I'm indoors in a silent room i hear it on my hip as i'm walking out. As soon as the ambient noise rise it drowns though. Meaning, it doesn't bother me that much. After researching the matter i understand that Leica has stated that this is normal and that it's the aperture cage that rattles and that this is a part of the design assuring that the lens will function optimally. I also read that different copies are affected differently, some pretty much silent, some rattles with different volume, and some vary depending on f-stop (mine quiets down a little at f/16) Now, in 2016, how many current owners of the Summilux 35 FLE is affected by this? I'm also curious if anyone reading this thread have purchased a new-in-box lens that do/don't rattle. I'm also interested in hearing from members that had the lens CLA'ed with this issue. I heard that Leica can use some shims or similar to mute the rattle if requested.
