  1. Hello! I had previously posted some questions about using the Leica SF20 flash with my M6 TTL. I've shot through a few rolls since first getting it and quite liked the results (and experimenting a bit!) However, on my latest roll when trying to use the flash I can't seem to get the flash unit to fire in any mode while on camera. I... - Turned off the body - Attached the flash to the hot-shoe - Turned on the body to flash sync speed (or slower) - Turned on the SF20 to "TTL" mode, and tap the soft shutter on the M6 and the LCD reads out "400 iso" When trying to take a photo and looking through the viewfinder I see the flash symbol (it's solid) on the right hand side, and when taking a photo it never flashes/blinks/etc. From the M6 manual I assume _something_ should occur with the indicator, and the flash should fire. I've checked the hot-shoe contacts and it all seems fine. I haven't tried swapping out M6 batteries yet, or flash batteries because it fires on tests just fine, and my meter workout without issue. Is there anything else I should check or try out? I was able to test the SF20 on a friend's Fujifilm and it fired without issue in "auto" mode. I tried manual/auto and it didn't do anything either. Very odd!
  2. I've recently purchased an SF20 flash to use with my M6 TTL. I'm trying to make sure I am understanding how to use the TTL setting for the flash properly. After checking the manual it's been pretty unclear, so I have a few questions. 1. As for usage is it as simple as setting the camera+flash to TTL, setting the ISO on the camera, and changing the exposure to your liking? My assumption is the flash will output enough to properly expose for any scene, so just ignore the in camera meter? 2. Setting any settings (aperture/etc) on the flash while in TTL mode only shows you the distance output on the back of the flash, but does it alter the functionality of the flash power output or is it just for reference if you so choose? 3. What other things are worth noting when using flash in TTL mode (or I suppose manual?) It seems that in TTL mode it's mostly just hands off and pretty simple, but I feel like I'm missing something in the process.
  3. Hello everybody, I recently purchased a godox X2T-N and Xpro-N to use with my Leica SL 601. The thing is, whenever I turn on the remote control units the display and viewfinder start to flicker between more light and less light view of the scene. Is it normal? Is it possible to avoid it? Thanks, Adam.
  4. Hey, everyone, Sorry that my first post to the forum is me asking for help, but I’ve just purchased a SF24D flash, and was planning on using it handheld off camera connected by a cord, a la Bruce Gilden. I know I need a cable with pc sync connecter for my M4. As for a hot shoe adapter that can be attached to the flash, connected to the cable, and can trigger the flash, I’m having difficulties finding an adapter that will work. the original adapter I was planning on using won’t work, if anybody knows of a solution, or something that they’ve used before. I’d be really grateful!
  5. When using remote controlled flash in dark environment, the viewfinder/screen remains dark (except for very brief second). Only focus mode "Tracking keeps the image visible in viewfinder, with any other focus mode, viewfinder remains dark (as the shutter, iso and f-stop settings would make a dark image ok, but the use of flash would render the scene fine). Wonder if there is a way to keep the scene visible?
  6. Hello, I'm trying to get my M11 and 24D to get along. I'm using a Nikon SC-17 cable, and while the flash will fire in TTL mode, I cannot seem to get a proper exposure so it seems to me that TTL is simply not working. I checked the batteries and they have plenty of power in them. I've told the flash what aperture setting I'm using, and set the ISO on the camera to 800. The shutter speed is set to the flash sync setting (lightning bolt). It simply does not appear to be working as a TTL flash. I'd appreciate any advice. I'm open to the possibility of needing to buy a more modern TTL flash but am hoping that won't be necessary. Thanks!
  7. Hi All SL-users! I have had my SL for some months and used mostly M-R lenses with the adapers and the 24-90 Zoom which covers most situations. The system is heavy, but once you get used to it, -you start wondering why not use lenses of your 645 cameras:)? I have the Contax 645 lenses and wonder if anyone has found suitable adapter to use these on the SL - even if the AF and some other functions might be lost? Some time back there were still companies which made tailor-made adapters, but I have learned that we are maybe past those times?;) However, there are individuals who are keen to solve problems and I remember someone making an AF-unit of Nikon's 16A-teleconverter, which was not that difficult after all... Even the Photokina exhibition might have revealed something on this front? So, -please, share any of your experience and of this topic? if there are any:)? br Hans
  8. Hey , which flash/strobe do you use if you need hss ? any strobes that I can rent or buy? thanxs peter
  9. Will the Leica the CF 22 flash work with the D-Lux 7? The CF 22 instructions state: "All flash operating modes are also available when the Leica CF 22 is used with the Leica D-Lux 4." Several weeks ago I sent my question to Leica New Jersey technical support, but haven't received a response. I haven't put the CF 22 on my D-Lux 7, not wanting to break the camera in case the flash and camera are incompatible.
  10. I am looking for a lightweight compact TTL flash for use with my Q2, but am trying to understand which are compatible. I understand that the SF24D may be one option, but will the SF20 also work? Does anyone have any experience of either in use? The flash needs to be very compact and will only be for occasional use, primarily for fill-in basis so it needs to be TTL.
  11. Dear friends, I'm looking for a small fill-in flash for the M10 R, which also allows indirect flashing. Occasionally I need a fill-in flash at a distance of approx. 1m to 7m for portraits / full-body shots in backlight or poorly lit interiors. If possible automatic / TTL. It doesn't have to be a Leica flash. It should be as small as possible. On my Sony I have the HVL-F20M, which was perfect. Could this also be used on the M10 R? I ask for your advice! Thank you, greetings Klaus
  12. Hey , this is exciting! https://leicarumors.com/2022/06/18/just-announced-new-godox-xproii-l-ttl-wireless-flash-trigger-for-leica-cameras-s-sl-sl2-m10-q2-cl-and-more-to-come.aspx/ I have been waiting so long for this trigger. I am really happy that I choose Godox. and while I was able to flash with the system now I can use HSS which is very convenient sometimes !

  14. Hi all, I’ve got a Leica M6 TTL and was wanting to be able to use it at night/low light on an upcoming trip so was wanting to use a flash (I’m fine with just using manual settings don’t need to use the actual TTL with a leica flash to save $$) I did some reading online and was a bit confused so was hoping a few experts here could clarify: I’ve already got an Olympus FL14 flash (manual here) which I was hoping I could use with the camera. However, I was a bit concerned after reading about the m6ttl and flash, as read I the m6 ttl is succeptible to the strobe voltage compared to m6 classic and older Ms. My understanding is a newer flash like the fl14 should have a relatively low strobe voltage so shouldn’t do any damage but I was hoping anyone was able to let me know if they’ve ever used one or similar on a leica M, or alternatively the best way to check if the flash is safe (I have a multimeter handy). Cheers!
  15. I'm looking for a small on-camera flash to use with my M10 for street shooting and snapshots by night. No need for TTL. I would use it in manual anyway, zone focus system, and voila. I have a few YongNuo and original Nikon speedlights, and all they work with the M10. But... First, some of them don't fit completely (until the end) in the hot shoe, and it looks like they are falling. And second, they are big. So I was looking for another more portable option, lighter. I saw that the TT350N (for Nikon) would also be a nice lighter add for my Nikon DSLR. Can you confirm it is compatible with Leica? Also, I found the new Light Pix Labs selling a tiny and intelligent flash (Q20II). I found small enough also the Nikon SB400, but it's TTL only. The Contax TLA 200 would be perfect, but I can't find it brand new. The Godox, I believe, can also be used for professional work. The Q20II is more kind of a pocket/travel flash. Not sure if they make vignettes w/ WA lenses. Any suggestions or recommendations for flashes? Ideally, two AA batteries or USB chargeable. Thank you!
  16. Hey , is there any other flash we can use when the camera is in Auto iso and you want/need to flash? any flash from metz , Nissan thanxs peter
  17. Has anybody had intermittent TTL flash issues with the R8? I get random firing of the SF-58, particularly with movement of the camera, and sometimes no flash on shutter release. Inside, low light, and with program mode the viewfinder shows f/5.6 @ 1/250 as it should. Contacts are clean, wiggling the flash at the foot doesn't make it fire. Camera, flash or the coupling of the two? The phenomena does not seem to occur with a SF-24D, though i have no negatives to review yet. R8 serial # 243xxxx. I've had no other problems with this camera.
  18. I picked up a Leica SF24D flash recently to use with my M6TTL. I was thinking about testing it with my Canon EOS R dslr and using its screen to get familiar with the flash without wasting film (I don’t mind if it will only work using Manual mode on the flash). I think I remember hearing years ago something about TTL flashes not pairing well with some newer “more-electronic” cameras’ hot shoes and possibly frying the camera’s electronics — though my memory’s extremely foggy on that. Does anyone have any experience using the SF24D on a dslr of any make/model and/or on any digital Leica body? Would covering the flash’s 3 “TTL connector pins” on its hot shoe with electrical tape (while leaving the main center pin uncovered) be necessary or safer? Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question.
  19. I am considering Leica SF24D as a replacement for the Olympus S20 (small auto flash). Took some shots of family Christmas gathering with the S20; a little under-exposed (subsequently adjusted in LR by increasing exposure). I hope to hear from those who had experience using the SF24D with an M9.
  20. I'm a hobby shooter and have gone through Nikon, Canon, and Sony gear, and then got into Leica M a couple of years ago. Love my M10P and M3 and am building up a nice collection of M lenses. I have been shooting with just natural light but would now like to experiment more with portraits and controlled lighting and external flashes. I've been looking at the getting a couple of Godox AD200 Pros and would like to control them with a flash trigger from my M10P. I can't find anything official about Godox/Leica compatibility on the internet, although some say that a Godox X1T or X2T Nikon version will work with Leica M and I've also read somewhere that the Olympus version is the one to go for. Does anyone have any first hand experience or advice on this?
  21. Hi all I've not used flash very much apart from as fill-in for portraits, but I have an upcoming project that may require a little more of it. I have a Leica SF40 flash which I know can work as a slave when combined with the right master unit. Any suggestions as to what the right master unit would be? Thanks.
  22. Hello, new to the forum, new to leica! I own my black m-a for a month now and I absolutely love it. Just finished my 10th roll. Looking forward to taking part in the forum, but I am starting with a problem sorry. There is one little thing I can´t get to work (Spent at least 15 Exposures on it: I own a Flash Q Q20 from my digital days and i cant get it to work with the M-A. The strange thing: The flash fires when the film is not cocked and the shutter doesn't fire. When I cock the film and take an exposure the flash just wont fire. 1. Went to the leica shop and tried it with several new leica flashes. It fires when cocked and when not. 2. Checked some youtube videos - There are people successfully using the Q20 with their M6 or M-P, they even recommend it. 3 Checked the Q20 settings in falsh mode it should just work. 4. Tried it with the flash sync 1/50 setting and faster times And now the strangest thing - Occasionally, like every 3rd time I try it, it works. Am I studip or is the fals just not working with the m-a and I have to get an old leica flash? Any recommedation?
  23. Hi there, Can anyone offer me some simplified advice for using a flash with my m4p, I have an old sunpak auto 140 flash that is non settable and is activated via the ports on the back, what I wanted to know is : how do I gauge my shutter speed and aperture for two situations 1) outdoor in good/fair light 2) indoor and is it better to use one of the ports over the other (M or X) Thanks in advance, Dan.
  24. I am using an SF40 flash on my Leica Q. What is the best way to use the flash for fill while shooting in automatic aperture and automatic speed mode? In automatic speed but a specific aperture?
