  1. Hello! I had previously posted some questions about using the Leica SF20 flash with my M6 TTL. I've shot through a few rolls since first getting it and quite liked the results (and experimenting a bit!) However, on my latest roll when trying to use the flash I can't seem to get the flash unit to fire in any mode while on camera. I... - Turned off the body - Attached the flash to the hot-shoe - Turned on the body to flash sync speed (or slower) - Turned on the SF20 to "TTL" mode, and tap the soft shutter on the M6 and the LCD reads out "400 iso" When trying to take a photo and looking through the viewfinder I see the flash symbol (it's solid) on the right hand side, and when taking a photo it never flashes/blinks/etc. From the M6 manual I assume _something_ should occur with the indicator, and the flash should fire. I've checked the hot-shoe contacts and it all seems fine. I haven't tried swapping out M6 batteries yet, or flash batteries because it fires on tests just fine, and my meter workout without issue. Is there anything else I should check or try out? I was able to test the SF20 on a friend's Fujifilm and it fired without issue in "auto" mode. I tried manual/auto and it didn't do anything either. Very odd!
  2. I've recently purchased an SF20 flash to use with my M6 TTL. I'm trying to make sure I am understanding how to use the TTL setting for the flash properly. After checking the manual it's been pretty unclear, so I have a few questions. 1. As for usage is it as simple as setting the camera+flash to TTL, setting the ISO on the camera, and changing the exposure to your liking? My assumption is the flash will output enough to properly expose for any scene, so just ignore the in camera meter? 2. Setting any settings (aperture/etc) on the flash while in TTL mode only shows you the distance output on the back of the flash, but does it alter the functionality of the flash power output or is it just for reference if you so choose? 3. What other things are worth noting when using flash in TTL mode (or I suppose manual?) It seems that in TTL mode it's mostly just hands off and pretty simple, but I feel like I'm missing something in the process.
  3. Hello everybody, I recently purchased a godox X2T-N and Xpro-N to use with my Leica SL 601. The thing is, whenever I turn on the remote control units the display and viewfinder start to flicker between more light and less light view of the scene. Is it normal? Is it possible to avoid it? Thanks, Adam.
  4. Hey, everyone, Sorry that my first post to the forum is me asking for help, but I’ve just purchased a SF24D flash, and was planning on using it handheld off camera connected by a cord, a la Bruce Gilden. I know I need a cable with pc sync connecter for my M4. As for a hot shoe adapter that can be attached to the flash, connected to the cable, and can trigger the flash, I’m having difficulties finding an adapter that will work. the original adapter I was planning on using won’t work, if anybody knows of a solution, or something that they’ve used before. I’d be really grateful!
  5. When using remote controlled flash in dark environment, the viewfinder/screen remains dark (except for very brief second). Only focus mode "Tracking keeps the image visible in viewfinder, with any other focus mode, viewfinder remains dark (as the shutter, iso and f-stop settings would make a dark image ok, but the use of flash would render the scene fine). Wonder if there is a way to keep the scene visible?
  6. Hello, I'm trying to get my M11 and 24D to get along. I'm using a Nikon SC-17 cable, and while the flash will fire in TTL mode, I cannot seem to get a proper exposure so it seems to me that TTL is simply not working. I checked the batteries and they have plenty of power in them. I've told the flash what aperture setting I'm using, and set the ISO on the camera to 800. The shutter speed is set to the flash sync setting (lightning bolt). It simply does not appear to be working as a TTL flash. I'd appreciate any advice. I'm open to the possibility of needing to buy a more modern TTL flash but am hoping that won't be necessary. Thanks!
  7. Hi All SL-users! I have had my SL for some months and used mostly M-R lenses with the adapers and the 24-90 Zoom which covers most situations. The system is heavy, but once you get used to it, -you start wondering why not use lenses of your 645 cameras:)? I have the Contax 645 lenses and wonder if anyone has found suitable adapter to use these on the SL - even if the AF and some other functions might be lost? Some time back there were still companies which made tailor-made adapters, but I have learned that we are maybe past those times?;) However, there are individuals who are keen to solve problems and I remember someone making an AF-unit of Nikon's 16A-teleconverter, which was not that difficult after all... Even the Photokina exhibition might have revealed something on this front? So, -please, share any of your experience and of this topic? if there are any:)? br Hans
  8. Hi I just got a flash for my M6 classic (the sf24d). I got it from a friend, because he thought it was broken. I sent it to Leica and got a new one in return! But: I dont know how to use it with tri-x in semi-sunny daylight (sunny-16 dont work with 1/50th shutterspeed and f/8:)). Do any of you have a few tips to a novice in flash photography? Thank you. Regards Øystein
  9. I am using an SF40 flash on my Leica Q. What is the best way to use the flash for fill while shooting in automatic aperture and automatic speed mode? In automatic speed but a specific aperture?
  10. Hi there, Can anyone offer me some simplified advice for using a flash with my m4p, I have an old sunpak auto 140 flash that is non settable and is activated via the ports on the back, what I wanted to know is : how do I gauge my shutter speed and aperture for two situations 1) outdoor in good/fair light 2) indoor and is it better to use one of the ports over the other (M or X) Thanks in advance, Dan.
  11. I picked up a Leica SF24D flash recently to use with my M6TTL. I was thinking about testing it with my Canon EOS R dslr and using its screen to get familiar with the flash without wasting film (I don’t mind if it will only work using Manual mode on the flash). I think I remember hearing years ago something about TTL flashes not pairing well with some newer “more-electronic” cameras’ hot shoes and possibly frying the camera’s electronics — though my memory’s extremely foggy on that. Does anyone have any experience using the SF24D on a dslr of any make/model and/or on any digital Leica body? Would covering the flash’s 3 “TTL connector pins” on its hot shoe with electrical tape (while leaving the main center pin uncovered) be necessary or safer? Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question.
  12. I love my Lux5 but my Paul C. Buff trigger for top of my Leica wont fire studio strobes. Anyone else know why or what setti9ng I need to do this? Thanks in advance. Major project coming up.
  13. I am looking for an off camera flash solution for my M10 (which would possibly also work for my M240) Is there any chance that my Nikon Flashes or Fuji Flashes (Nissin) would work? Otherwise I am looking for a good solution with a controller that may also manage more than one flash lights. Is there a Godox Solution that fits? Thank you for your advice
  14. I own a m10 and a SL. The latter is used with both SL and M lenses. I picked up a SF 60 used and have enjoyed it. I would like to experience TTL with off-camera strobes, so I am considering the C1, but have questions: 1) will it provide TTL sync for both cameras, even the SL+M lenses? 2) Will the Nissin Air 10s controller do the job at half the price as the Leica C1? 3) Which Nissin strobes have you triggered successfully with the C1 (as fill or secondary strobes)? Thanks in advance!
  15. Hey my name is mike and i've had my m4 since june and absolutely love the camera. I got it cla'd by yye camera and it works great. Only issue is I love to shoot with flash and when I try doing so with this camera it is extremely unreliable.. I have never used the leica brand pc sync cord's and was curious if that could be the issue, but have tested the cords I have on all of the other film cameras I own and they work no problem at all. I have the vivitar 285hv and that comes with a sync cable already attached to the flash then put the other end on the socket of the camera and it works about 10 percent of the time. My other method was buying a hot shoe adapter and then putting my metz flash atop / and or my small nikon this again only worked rarely and with intense fidgeting of the cable. If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot. Best, Mike
  16. Recently i buyed a flash with synch cable for my LEICA M4.After made one shot with the flash, i exidently pressed again on the shuter release without advancing to the next frame.I payed attention that the flash fired again. I want to mention that the shutter speed dial is in the flash modeIs it normal? or i have a problem? Thanks in advance.Yaacov.
  17. Can anyone please advise how to get rid of continuous screen flashes every time I attach a Profoto Flash Gun or Flash Trigger. Histogram and Clipping are both off. Thanks
  18. To the forum gurus: For my SL2, I am seeking a good on-camera flash with radio transmitter capability, plus a controller for it. I have the SF40, and it’s not making the cut really. TTL is decent tho, but I just read “The Flash Book” by Scott Kelby and his system is all about setting the flash/camera (move the flash off camera if possible) to Manual mode (1/4 flash power, iso 100, 1/125 sec, f/5.6)and just adjusting the camera from there. So what have y’all been using for a good hot shoe flash and a radio controller?? The SF58 and c1 remote are out of my budget unfortunately! I’m an amateur photographer who shoots just my toddler and wife, and some friends/family events. thanks in advance for the guidance!
  19. Hello, ladies and gents - here is a question for those who shoot with the Q2. I need to get a flash for my Q2, preferably a Metz unit as they are priced more favorably than the Leica flash units. Is there a Metz equivalent of Leica's SF60 or SF40 flash? The Metz mecablitz 52 AF-1 looks like it could be a good choice. The 52 AF-1 is supposed to be compatible with Panasonic/Leica Four Thirds TTL, according to the description on a well known camera retailer's website. It seems odd that this flash would be compatible with Leica 4/3rds cameras but there is no mention of it being compatible with Leica's full frame cameras such as the Q2, M240 or M10. Would that be due to the difference in sensor size between 4/3rds and full frame? I have used off camera flash (a Nikon unit) a fair amount in the past with my M-P 240 by using a wireless flash trigger set. This is ungainly though when you are holding the flash in one hand and the camera in the other and trying to shoot. I need fill flash for high contrast lighting situations so on camera flash would greatly streamline using flash with my Q2. So my question boils down to this: Is the Metz mecablitz 52 AF-1 compatible with the Q2? Or is there another flash unit that could be used on camera with the Q2?
  20. I've notice the ISO has automatically set to 100 when the shutter dial on a red flash symbol or I think it's 1/200. My question is will the WB also automatcally dial-in to "flash" accordingly or stay at whatever before (auto or something else)? Thank you.
  21. I have a problem to get the SF 40 flash working on the CL camera. All the settings are as per the manual and the flash setting is on TTL but the flash icon on the display is crossed out meaning the flash will not fire although the camera flash setting is on. I have tried it on manual and auto but it still does not work. The flash tests good when I press the test fire, I have also changed the batteries but have had no success. I was hoping to get information from someone who may have experienced the same problem as I have.
  22. When I mount either the SF60 or the Profoto AirTTL For Nikon transmitter on the CL, the screen does this. I should point out that the SF60 only does this if it is on Wireless Slave mode. In TTL mode, it is fine. When I half press, this 'flashing' of the screen stops and things resume to normal. I assume this is not normal behavior?
  23. I've bought the SF-40 flash. Small and nice. Like it. I still have two Canon 'legacy' speedlites I haven't sold, and an infrared transmitter that can tigger them. I wonder if it would work on SL. I haven't tried it because I'm unsure if putting the Canon transmitter into the SL's hotshoe is a safe thing to do. Is there a chance it may short circuit it and damage the SL?
  24. Hi, I have problems to fire my Contax TLA 200 on the hotshoe of a recently purchased Leica M6 classic. I fidnthat weird because from what I know the Leica M6 classic pretty much takes any flash you put on the hotshoe (without TTL at east). I haven't tried it off camera yet. I did some research on this topic but couldn't find any previous threads covering it. Therefore hereÄs my question: Has anyone of you encountered similar problems or has used this flash on the Leica M6 classic successfully? The Canonlite flash which came with the Canonet QL 17 III doesn't fire either. As the Leica M6 classic has just been purchased I want to make sure that the hotshoe isn't damaged. To be honest, that's what I suppose at the moment.... Thanks for your help!
  25. I am considering in using the Q on some events and need advice for basic radio triggers (non TTL) to fire remote strobes. Similar to the pocket wizard radios. Anyone have any experience in doing so? When I was trying out one on an Olympus camera in the past (using my Nikon radios) somehow it messed up the camera. This is why I am asking for any experienced users that have had real use on the Q. Thanks for the help.
