  1. I am looking for a filter for the summaron 28mm silver. I know about the Marumi filter but it a bit bulky. Anyone know a thin 34mm filter in silver?
  2. H guys, As mentioned in another thread, I just bought an SL and 24-90. I have always bought a skylight / UV or protective filter for any lens I have ever bought but this is my first Leica and I don't want to interfere with or degrade optical quality. So wanted some advice pls - filter needed or not? Thanks John
  3. Hi all, I recently hit on a Summicron 50mm and bought it. Now I need a ND filter, preferably a variable one, as I'll be shooting open. Could you recommend me one ? I live in Europe and would appreciate if you can also tell me where I can buy it. Sometimes it's hard to find a certain model. Thanks and wish you all a good weekend. N.
  4. I'm in the process of ordering a APO Leica-R Elmarit 100mm F/2.8. My understanding is it has a filter-size of E 60. What does that mean? Can I get a regular B+W 60mm UV filter or is there a special filter I have to get for this? B&H sells Leica filters that are "E 60" but they're a fortune! If a regular B+W works that would be a great relief. On another related question, this lens was made in 1986, the first year they came out with this particular lens. Should I get a UV lens or a clear lens, given that it was made when FILM was the only medium? What happens if I got a clear filter, would I have a bluish color shift on a Canon 5DSR? Thanks, Bill
  6. Have to say I agree with this excellent article: http://blog.mingthein.com/2016/03/21/to-filter-or-not-to-filter/#more-12270 "The main reason I avoid filters (except for the usage cases above) is because I often do see a difference. Aside from the obvious scenario of shooting into light sources and seeing significant ghosting, the problem is if you’re using an Otus – anything you put on the front of it, Zeiss’ own filters included, will visibly degrade contrast. It seems that the planar filters introduce reflections that simply weren’t an issue previously with the concave front elements of the 55 and 85mm Otuses. The same is generally true of other lenses with concave fronts, too: they tend to maintain higher contrast without filters; probably because there are fewer paths for internal reflection (and thus stray light, flare and reduction in contrast) to take place."
  7. Regrettably RG Lewis, a Leica Premier dealership in London has closed its doors after more than 100 years of trading because its proprietor is retiring. I was in Croydon Photo Centre yesterday (formerly called High Street Radio and Photographic), which is a family business owned by 84 year old Reg Roach and has specialised in Leica and Roberts radio products for over 50 years. Reg's son Paul showed me a large amount of Leica accessories (hoods, filters, caps, Visoflexs, adaptors etc) that Len at RG Lewis had passed on to the shop when he shut the doors at RG Lewis. Croydon Photo Centre already offers a wide range of classic Leica goods but Paul told me that it will take some time to load all of the former RG Lewis accessories onto his website. He told me that if anyone is looking for Leica accessories then please contact the shop by email or telephone on the weblink above. Paul's very happy to talk to people over the phone or if you happen to be in the area on a day that the shop is open (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays) then call in for a chat and a rummage. (For full disclosure I have no connection to Croydon Photo Centre or its goods other than to have been a satisfied customer over the years who enjoys the 'days gone by' feel of the shop with shelves stacked high with all sorts of goods and hidden gems and drawers filled with more and staff who know their products well who are happy to spend time talking to you. I have only posted this message as a service to other forum members who may be or may have been looking for a particular for some time.) For those who know Reg he unfortunately fell and broke his hip recently so he's in hospital at the moment but is in constant contact with Paul by phone as I witnessed while Paul was looking for an IROOA for my Rigid Summicron, which he successfully found with Reg's telephonic guidance. Pete.
  8. Does anybody know why Leica does not produce red filters for the monochrome or B/W film cameras? I know there are yellow, green and orange filters, but no red filter.
  9. I recently bought a seven-lens, two-body kit from an estate. The lenses are all two-cam, and I'm figuring out the filter sizes... most are Series VI, VII, or VIII, but the 50mm is a Summilux-R has thrown me a curve. Looking at the L-Cam Wiki here it indicates that the serial range for this lens (24715xx) puts it right in the middle of the 1971 production run, three-cam lenses (although I see that it lists that there are two-cam variants) that apparently take an E55 filter. As I said previously, it is a two cam lens and came with a 48mm UV haze filter on it. Series VII is too big, and Series VI is too small, so it was obviously not set up for a Series filter... and none of the Series filters are 48mm. Can anyone shed light on what I have here? Is it a unicorn? Are there just gaps in the L-Cam wiki's data? Anyone else have one of these? Thanks!
  10. Hi, I have purchased Summicron M 50mm ASPH brand new. It is with built-in hood.I bought also UV clear filter just for protection of the lens. Unfortunately on some of my latest shots I can see some flares. Any suggestions how to avoid it? I insist on the UV filter, do I have to buy hood for 35mm? I’m surprised that Leica didn’t invent the lens smart enough to work with the filter correctly, meaning w/out need of additional hood.
  11. Did you need the yellow filter for the clouds? Could similar or same be achieved post? Having specified a Q2M I wonder whether I should be looking out to fit yellow or orange glass in front of all that nice Q2M design?
  12. Hello, Suggestions on long exposure photography using the Leica Q 49mm. Heliopan 49mm Variable Gray ND Filter and or, B+W 49mm XS-Pro Digital ND Vario MRC-Nano Filter. Does anyone have experience with either one of these filters, or any other recommendations? Thank you.
  13. Hey everyone. I recently got my hands on a summicron 50mm v4 that comes with a 12585 hood. Fantastic lens by the way. But I’m having trouble to use a 39mm thread filter together with the hood. When the filter is threaded on the lens, the hood simply cannot go all the way in, because the filter is blocking the thin edge in the middle of the lens hood, which is narrower than the size of the filter. Does anyone have experience using the 12585 hood with filters? Which ones will work with it? I’m using filters for protection of the glass. thanks! Frank
Danke.
  15. Hello, please does someone know the effective transmittance/wavelength spectrum of the Leica E49 UV/IR Filter 13412? Looking on the web I did not find a detailed specification of this kind of Leica filter. Thanks in regards BR G.
  17. Hi, I'm using a Summicron-M 35mm f2.0 (Serialnumber 2461xxx made in Canada; v2?) on my M8. Unfortunately this lense does not have a screw thread for the use of filters. Am I guessing right, that the only possiblilty to use filters is in using a hood, which has the possibility to take these? Does the original Leitz/Leica hood 12504 offer this possibility? Is this true only for Series VII or as well for E39 (39mm) filters? Is there an alternative hood (preferentially made out of metal) which can hold 39mm filters? Thanks, Dennis
  19. Just in case somebody needs rare-sized hoods or filters, e.g., for the Summarit 50mm f/1.5, and doesn't mind a third-party item, check out HeavyStar (HeavyStar Photo Gears Home Page). They make a vented metal hood for the Summarit 50mm f/1.5 that would actually stack onto an E43 filter, and supply an E41 to E43 step up ring with it. So I can use 43mm filters between the step up ring and the hood. I've also purchased a 39-43mm step up ring for a Summicron 50mm f/2 Dual Range, so I'll be able to use the same filters and hood with it as with the Summarit. The hood itself comes with a cap, and caps for 43mm lenses are also sold. The prices are reasonable. The hood (incl. step up ring and cap) for the Summarit costs USD 24.88); the step up ring for the Summicron, USD 6.95. The hood and step up rings seem to be aluminum painted flat black. Regards, Richard
  20. Hi, guys. Just wondering about everybody's opinion regarding Leica filters. Are they really worth it? How about other brands - Heliopan? Hoya? Others? Thanks. Rosie
Was würdet ihr mir empfehlen?
  23. Excuse my ignorance. I've recently acquired a lux 35mm s/n 3474710 and 12504 hood which clicks on the front. Question - what is the thread at the front of the lens for? I read online that this little beauty doesn't take filters without the 12504 hood, so whats the purpose of the thread?
  24. When I get my new Noctilux f/.95 in the next few weeks should I get some ND filters so I can use it set to .95 during the day. Most of you say B+W are the best so what values do you think I need?
