  1. Hi, I think my cherished R3 may have a shutter fault. I fitted new batteries recently intending to use the camera and gave it a check over. I haven't checked it with a film but, it appears that the shutter isn't firing correctly at 1/500 or 1/1000 speeds - all other speeds seem fine but at those top speeds the shutter fires, but you can't see any light through the shutter as you trip it. It's an odd one and not a fault I've ever seen before - just wondering if any one else has experienced this or if anyone knows if the R3 shutter can be fixed? I will contact some repairers also, and - just for certainty - run a film through it. I've had this camera since new, it was a present and has sentimental value as well as being a great SLR body, so I want to save it!
  2. Hi all, my reasonably new M9 has been giving me a message: ***************** Attention Shutter Fault ***************** which I can reset and keep on working by turning the camera off then back on. It happens regularly, at the beginning of a shoot or after being powered off for a while. The image captured does not save when this message appears, but all others after the "reboot" do. the camera has the latest firmware update (which I loaded to fix to fix the issue but to no avail.) Its a pain and I have dropped off the body to the Leica service agent here in Australia. The camera only has about 3,000 actuations. Is this a known fault? If so, is the necessary fix (shutter replacement?) going to mean the sensor focus point (which I have had done at great expense) need to be reset? Thanks, Mark
  3. Hello I have just noticed a fault with my M7 When I select 1/4 second, the viewfinder shows the required shutter speed as it would with Auto mode. I never noticed before as I can't hand hold a 1/4! Unfortunately the camera is out of 'passport' so I can't just send it back to Leica. Any thoughts?
  4. Yesterday, while trying to take a photo, I got a "Shutter Fault" error. The shutter is stuck and won't release. I sent an email to Leica support, they haven't replied yet. I purchased the camera at B&H photo NYC (I live in Israel) on 2009-11-25. Does anyone know what is the procedure with Leica in this matter? what should I look forward for from leica? Thanks, -Dan
  5. Hi, Has anyone else had the experience of the aperture ring on Summarit 75mm or similar lens popping loose and then seizing up? If so is it easily repairable or does it have to go back to Leica? I was hoping to use it on a field next weekend so it is a nuisance that it has happened just now. Andrew
  6. Hi I've recently purchased an R4 fully aware of the electronic issues with them, the R4 I bought was in mint condition and rarely used. I've finally got round to loading some film and doing a shoot, it was working fine nothing out of the ordinary until the light meter suddenly stoped functioning completely, no lights or anything. I put it down to perhaps needing new batterys so I replaced them today but still nothing. If I look through the viewfinder whilst placing the batterys in theres a slight blip of light but nothing at all after that. If I press the button in to change the iso there is a red light on the top so obviously somethings working in. I'm fully aware this is probably just a fault and I'm going to have to give up but I just wondered if there was perhaps a fix and if not what does everyone suggest? Thanks
  7. My M7 has developed a small fault. The exposure meter and lights in the viewfinder no longer switch themselves off after the shutter release has been left untouched for 15 seconds or so as they should. They seem to stay on indefinitely. And the viewfinder no longer shows the film speed for the first few seconds after switching the camera on. It goes straight to the exposure meter. The metering still seems to work fine. Has the heat and humidity got to the electronics, or is it just age and chance? This would be no problem but that I am away on a trip in Singapore and other places in the region -- with many photographs to take -- and have only the one camera with me (not counting the phone). I grandly thought all this business of having a back-up was so much faffing around and have not brought a spare. I should have brought the Mini Zoom along at the very least. By switching the camera off between shots it will be probably possible to keep the batteries working for quite a while, and it's no big deal if I go through a few sets of batteries in the next six weeks before returning to the UK. If not this may be the time I practice using only the two mechanical speeds -- 1/60 and 1/125 -- and guessing exposures -- sunny sixteen. And as a last resort the local camera shops seem to have an ample supply of replacement/extra kit at perfectly reasonable prices. Writing this, with the news from Japan hovering behind the next tab on my browser, I feel that I should not be writing this at all. It isn't one of life's bigger problems. But it would be interesting to know if anyone has had similar experiences with the M7. All the best, John
  8. I have recently noticed that when I zoom in with my Leica C-Lux 1 a black crescent shaped patch appears in the viewing screen, slightly right of centre. This increases proportionaly to the zoom and is not visible when the lens is at wide. The blackening transferes to the captured image. Could this be a fault with the lens or sensor? Any suggestions? Is there a service facility near Warrington. Thanks.
